1 A nd Jesus summoned to Him His twelve disciples and gave them power and authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out, and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of weakness and infirmity.

Jesús reunió a sus doce discípulos, y les dio poder para expulsar a los espíritus impuros y para sanar toda enfermedad y toda dolencia.

2 N ow these are the names of the twelve apostles (special messengers): first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James son of Zebedee, and John his brother;

Éstos son los nombres de los doce apóstoles: primero Simón, llamado Pedro, y Andrés su hermano; luego Jacobo y su hermano Juan, hijos de Zebedeo;

3 P hilip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;

Felipe, Bartolomé, Tomás, Mateo el cobrador de impuestos, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Tadeo,

4 S imon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

5 J esus sent out these twelve, charging them, Go nowhere among the Gentiles and do not go into any town of the Samaritans;

Jesús envió a estos doce, con las siguientes instrucciones: «No vayan por camino de paganos, ni entren en ciudad de samaritanos,

6 B ut go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

sino vayan más bien a las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel.

7 A nd as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand!

Vayan y prediquen: “El reino de los cielos se ha acercado.”

8 C ure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give.

Sanen enfermos, limpien leprosos, resuciten muertos y expulsen demonios. Den gratuitamente lo que gratuitamente recibieron.

9 T ake no gold nor silver nor copper money in your purses (belts);

No lleven consigo oro ni plata ni cobre,

10 A nd do not take a provision bag or a wallet for a collection bag for your journey, nor two undergarments, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the workman deserves his support (his living, his food).

ni mochila para el camino, ni dos túnicas, ni calzado, ni bastón; porque el obrero es digno de su alimento.

11 A nd into whatever town or village you go, inquire who in it is deserving, and stay there until you leave.

En cualquier ciudad o aldea a la que lleguen, busquen a alguien que sea digno, y quédense allí hasta que salgan.

12 A s you go into the house, give your greetings and wish it well.

Al entrar en la casa, saluden.

13 T hen if indeed that house is deserving, let come upon it your peace '> freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin]. But if it is not deserving, let your peace return to you.

Si la casa es digna, recibirá la paz que ustedes le deseen; pero si no es digna, ese deseo de paz se volverá a ustedes.

14 A nd whoever will not receive and accept and welcome you nor listen to your message, as you leave that house or town, shake the dust from your feet.

Si alguien no los recibe, ni oye sus palabras, salgan de aquella casa o ciudad, y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies.

15 T ruly I tell you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.

De cierto les digo que, en el día del juicio, el castigo para la tierra de Sodoma y de Gomorra, será más tolerable que para aquella ciudad. Persecuciones venideras

16 B ehold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves; be wary and wise as serpents, and be innocent (harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.

»Tengan ustedes en cuenta que los estoy enviando como a ovejas en medio de lobos; así que sean prudentes como serpientes y sencillos como palomas.

17 B e on guard against men '> way or nature is to act in opposition to God]; for they will deliver you up to councils and flog you in their synagogues,

Cuídense de la gente, porque los entregarán a los tribunales, y los azotarán en las sinagogas;

18 A nd you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a witness to bear testimony before them and to the Gentiles (the nations).

y por causa de mí, incluso los harán comparecer ante gobernadores y reyes, para que den testimonio ante ellos y ante las naciones.

19 B ut when they deliver you up, do not be anxious about how or what you are to speak; for what you are to say will be given you in that very hour and moment,

Pero cuando ustedes sean entregados, no se preocupen por lo que han de decir, ni por cómo habrán de decirlo, porque en ese momento se les dará lo que tienen que decir.

20 F or it is not you who are speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

Porque no serán ustedes los que hablen, sino que el Espíritu de su Padre hablará por ustedes.

21 B rother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children will take a stand against their parents and will have them put to death.

El hermano entregará a la muerte al hermano, y el padre al hijo. Los hijos se levantarán contra los padres, y los harán morir.

22 A nd you will be hated by all for My name’s sake, but he who perseveres and endures to the end will be saved '> from spiritual disease and death in the world to come].

Por causa de mi nombre todo el mundo los odiará, pero el que resista hasta el fin será salvado.

23 W hen they persecute you in one town, flee to another town; for truly I tell you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

Cuando los persigan en una ciudad, huyan a otra; porque de cierto les digo que no terminarán de recorrer todas las ciudades de Israel, antes que venga el Hijo del Hombre.

24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor is a servant or slave above his master.

El discípulo no es más que su maestro, ni el siervo más que su señor.

25 I t is sufficient for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant or slave like his master. If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebub '> master of the dwelling], how much more will they speak evil of those of His household.

Al discípulo debe bastarle con ser como su maestro, y al siervo como su señor. Si al dueño de la casa lo han llamado Beelzebú, ¿cuánto más a los de su familia? A quién se debe temer

26 S o have no fear of them; for nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, or kept secret that will not become known.

»Así que, no los teman, porque no hay nada encubierto que no haya de ser manifestado, ni nada oculto que no haya de saberse.

27 W hat I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.

Lo que les digo en las tinieblas, díganlo en la luz; y lo que oyen al oído, proclámenlo desde las azoteas.

28 A nd do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Gehenna).

No teman a los que matan el cuerpo, pero no pueden matar el alma. Más bien, teman a aquel que puede destruir alma y cuerpo en el infierno.

29 A re not two little sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s leave (consent) and notice.

¿Acaso no se venden dos pajarillos por unas cuantas monedas? Aun así, ni uno de ellos cae a tierra sin que el Padre de ustedes lo permita,

30 B ut even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

pues aun los cabellos de ustedes están todos contados.

31 F ear not, then; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Así que no teman, pues ustedes valen más que muchos pajarillos.

32 T herefore, everyone who acknowledges Me before men and confesses Me '> out of a state of oneness with Me], I will also acknowledge him before My Father Who is in heaven and confess him.

A cualquiera que me confiese delante de los hombres, yo también lo confesaré delante de mi Padre que está en los cielos.

33 B ut whoever denies and disowns Me before men, I also will deny and disown him before My Father Who is in heaven.

Y a cualquiera que me niegue delante de los hombres, yo también lo negaré delante de mi Padre que está en los cielos. Jesús, causa de división

34 D o not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.

»No piensen que he venido para traer paz a la tierra; no he venido para traer paz, sino espada.

35 F or I have come to part asunder a man from his father, and a daughter from her mother, and a newly married wife from her mother-in-law—

He venido para poner al hijo contra su padre, a la hija contra su madre, y a la nuera contra su suegra.

36 A nd a man’s foes will be they of his own household.

Los enemigos del hombre serán los de su casa.

37 H e who loves '> takes more pleasure in] father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me;

El que ama a su padre o a su madre más que a mí, no es digno de mí. El que ama a su hijo o hija más que a mí, no es digno de mí.

38 A nd he who does not take up his cross and follow Me '> cleave steadfastly to Me, conforming wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also] is not worthy of Me.

El que no toma su cruz y me sigue, no es digno de mí.

39 W hoever finds his '> lower] life will lose it, and whoever loses his life on My account will find it.

El que halla su vida, la perderá; y el que pierde su vida por causa de mí, la hallará. Recompensas

40 H e who receives and welcomes and accepts you receives and welcomes and accepts Me, and he who receives and welcomes and accepts Me receives and welcomes and accepts Him Who sent Me.

»El que los recibe a ustedes, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió.

41 H e who receives and welcomes and accepts a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he who receives and welcomes and accepts a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

El que recibe a un profeta porque es profeta, recibirá igual recompensa que el profeta; y el que recibe a un justo porque es justo, recibirá igual recompensa que el justo.

42 A nd whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is My disciple, surely I declare to you, he shall not lose his reward.

De cierto les digo que cualquiera que dé a uno de estos pequeñitos aunque sea un vaso de agua fría, por tratarse de un discípulo, no perderá su recompensa.»
