1 P attern yourselves after me, as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).

2 I appreciate and commend you because you always remember me in everything and keep firm possession of the traditions (the substance of my instructions), just as I have passed them on to you.

Os alabo, hermanos, porque en todo os acordáis de mí y retenéis las instrucciones tal como os las entregué.

3 B ut I want you to know and realize that Christ is the Head of every man, the head of a woman is her husband, and the Head of Christ is God.

Pero quiero que sepáis que Cristo es la cabeza de todo varón, y el varón es la cabeza de la mujer, y Dios es la cabeza de Cristo.

4 A ny man who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, and comforts) with his head covered dishonors his Head (Christ).

Todo varón que ora o profetiza con la cabeza cubierta, deshonra su cabeza.

5 A nd any woman who prays or prophesies (teaches, refutes, reproves, admonishes, or comforts) when she is bareheaded dishonors her head (her husband); it is the same as shaved.

Pero toda mujer que ora o profetiza con la cabeza descubierta, deshonra su cabeza, porque es lo mismo que si se hubiera rapado.

6 F or if a woman will not wear covering, then she should cut off her hair too; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her head shorn or shaven, let her cover.

Si la mujer no se cubre, que se corte también el cabello; y si le es vergonzoso a la mujer cortarse el cabello o raparse, que se cubra.

7 F or a man ought not to wear anything on his head, for he is the image and glory of God '> his function of government reflects the majesty of the divine Rule]; but woman is man’s glory (majesty, preeminence).

El varón no debe cubrirse la cabeza, pues él es imagen y gloria de Dios; pero la mujer es gloria del varón,

8 F or man was not from woman, but woman from man;

pues el varón no procede de la mujer, sino la mujer del varón;

9 N either was man created on account of or for the benefit of woman, but woman on account of and for the benefit of man.

y tampoco el varón fue creado por causa de la mujer, sino la mujer por causa del varón.

10 T herefore she should have a covering on her head '> that she may show reverence as do] the angels.

Por lo cual la mujer debe tener señal de autoridad sobre su cabeza, por causa de los ángeles.

11 N evertheless, in the Lord and from His point of view woman is not apart from and independent of man, nor is man aloof from and independent of woman;

Pero en el Señor, ni el varón es sin la mujer ni la mujer sin el varón,

12 F or as woman was made from man, even so man is also born of woman; and all from God.

porque, así como la mujer procede del varón, también el varón nace de la mujer; pero todo procede de Dios.

13 C onsider for yourselves; is it proper and decent for a woman to offer prayer to God with her head uncovered?

Juzgad vosotros mismos: ¿Es propio que la mujer ore a Dios sin cubrirse la cabeza?

14 D oes not the native sense of propriety (experience, common sense, reason) itself teach you that for a man to wear long hair is a dishonor to him,

La naturaleza misma ¿no os enseña que al varón le es deshonroso dejarse crecer el cabello?

15 B ut if a woman has long hair, it is her ornament and glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

Por el contrario, a la mujer dejarse crecer el cabello le es honroso, porque en lugar de velo le es dado el cabello.

16 N ow if anyone is disposed to be argumentative and contentious about this, we hold to and recognize no other custom than this, nor do the churches of God generally.

Con todo, si alguno quiere discutir, sepa que ni nosotros ni las iglesias de Dios tenemos tal costumbre. Abusos en la Cena del Señor

17 B ut in what I instruct next I do not commend, because when you meet together, it is not for the better but for the worse.

Al anunciaros esto que sigue, no os alabo, porque no os congregáis para lo mejor, sino para lo peor.

18 F or in the first place, when you assemble as a congregation, I hear that there are cliques (divisions and factions) among you; and I in part believe it,

En primer lugar, cuando os reunís como iglesia, oigo que hay entre vosotros divisiones; y en parte lo creo.

19 F or doubtless there have to be factions or parties among you in order that they who are genuine and of approved fitness may become evident and plainly recognized among you.

Es preciso que entre vosotros haya divisiones, para que se pongan de manifiesto entre vosotros los que son aprobados.

20 S o when you gather for your meetings, it is not the supper instituted by the Lord that you eat,

Cuando, pues, os reunís vosotros, eso no es comer la cena del Señor.

21 F or in eating each one to get his own supper first, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.

Al comer, cada uno se adelanta a tomar su propia cena; y mientras uno tiene hambre, otro se embriaga.

22 W hat! Do you have no houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and mean to show contempt for it, while you humiliate those who are poor (have no homes and have brought no food)? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not!

Pues qué, ¿no tenéis casas en que comáis y bebáis? ¿O menospreciáis la iglesia de Dios, y avergonzáis a los que no tienen nada? ¿Qué os diré? ¿Os alabaré? En esto no os alabo. Institución de la Cena del Señor

23 F or I received from the Lord Himself that which I passed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when He was treacherously delivered up and while His betrayal was in progress took bread,

Yo recibí del Señor lo que también os he enseñado: Que el Señor Jesús, la noche que fue entregado, tomó pan;

24 A nd when He had given thanks, He broke and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me to remembrance.

y habiendo dado gracias, lo partió, y dijo: «Tomad, comed; esto es mi cuerpo que por vosotros es partido; haced esto en memoria de mí.»

25 S imilarly when supper was ended, He took the cup also, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink, to call Me to remembrance.

Asimismo tomó también la copa, después de haber cenado, diciendo: «Esta copa es el nuevo pacto en mi sangre; haced esto todas las veces que la bebáis, en memoria de mí.»

26 F or every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are representing and signifying and proclaiming the fact of the Lord’s death until He comes.

Así pues, todas las veces que comáis este pan y bebáis esta copa, la muerte del Señor anunciáis hasta que él venga. Tomando la Cena indignamente

27 S o then whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in a way that is unworthy will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

De manera que cualquiera que coma este pan o beba esta copa del Señor indignamente, será culpado del cuerpo y de la sangre del Señor.

28 L et a man examine himself, and so should he eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

Por tanto, pruébese cada uno a sí mismo, y coma así del pan y beba de la copa.

29 F or anyone who eats and drinks without discriminating and recognizing with due appreciation that body, eats and drinks a sentence (a verdict of judgment) upon himself.

El que come y bebe indignamente, sin discernir el cuerpo del Señor, juicio come y bebe para sí.

30 T hat is the reason many of you are weak and sickly, and quite enough of you have fallen into the sleep of death.

Por lo cual hay muchos enfermos y debilitados entre vosotros, y muchos han muerto.

31 F or if we searchingly examined ourselves, we should not be judged and penalty decreed.

Si, pues, nos examináramos a nosotros mismos, no seríamos juzgados;

32 B ut when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined and chastened, so that we may not be condemned with the world.

pero siendo juzgados, somos castigados por el Señor para que no seamos condenados con el mundo.

33 S o then, my brothers, when you gather together to eat, wait for one another.

Así que, hermanos míos, cuando os reunáis a comer, esperaos unos a otros.

34 I f anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together to bring judgment. About the other matters, I will give you directions when I come.

Si alguno tiene hambre, que coma en su casa, para que no os reunáis para condenación. Las demás cosas las pondré en orden cuando vaya.
