1 T o everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven:

2 A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted,

Tiempo de nacer y tiempo de morir, tiempo de plantar y tiempo de arrancar lo plantado,

3 A time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break down and a time to build up,

tiempo de matar y tiempo de curar, tiempo de destruir y tiempo de edificar,

4 A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

tiempo de llorar y tiempo de reír, tiempo de hacer duelo y tiempo de bailar,

5 A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

tiempo de esparcir piedras y tiempo de juntarlas, tiempo de abrazar y tiempo de abstenerse de abrazar,

6 A time to get and a time to lose, a time to keep and a time to cast away,

tiempo de buscar y tiempo de perder, tiempo de guardar y tiempo de tirar,

7 A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak,

tiempo de rasgar y tiempo de coser, tiempo de callar y tiempo de hablar,

8 A time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

tiempo de amar y tiempo de aborrecer, tiempo de guerra, y tiempo de paz.

9 W hat profit remains for the worker from his toil?

¿Qué provecho obtiene el que trabaja de aquello en que se afana?

10 I have seen the painful labor and exertion and miserable business which God has given to the sons of men with which to exercise and busy themselves.

He visto el trabajo que Dios ha dado a los hijos de los hombres para que se ocupen en él.

11 H e has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds, yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

Todo lo hizo hermoso en su tiempo, y ha puesto eternidad en el corazón del hombre, sin que este alcance a comprender la obra hecha por Dios desde el principio hasta el fin.

12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to be glad and to get and do good as long as they live;

Sé que no hay para el hombre cosa mejor que alegrarse y hacer bien en su vida,

13 A nd also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.

y también que es don de Dios que todo hombre coma y beba, y goce de los beneficios de toda su labor.

14 I know that whatever God does, it endures forever; nothing can be added to it nor anything taken from it. And God does it so that men will fear Him.

Sé que todo lo que Dios hace es perpetuo: Nada hay que añadir ni nada que quitar. Dios lo hace para que los hombres teman delante de él.

15 T hat which is now already has been, and that which is to be already has been; and God seeks that which has passed by.

Lo que antes fue, ya es, y lo que ha de ser, fue ya; y Dios restaura lo pasado. Injusticias de la vida

16 M oreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice there was wickedness, and that in the place of righteousness wickedness was there also.

Vi más cosas debajo del sol: en lugar del juicio, la maldad; y en lugar de la justicia, la iniquidad.

17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and purpose and for every work.

Y dije en mi corazón: «Al justo y al malvado juzgará Dios; porque allí hay un tiempo para todo lo que se quiere y para todo lo que se hace.»

18 I said in my heart regarding the subject of the sons of men, God is trying (separating and sifting) them, that they may see that by themselves they are but like beasts.

Dije también en mi corazón: «Esto es así, por causa de los hijos de los hombres, para que Dios los pruebe, y vean que ellos mismos son semejantes a las bestias.»

19 F or that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one thing befalls them both. As the one dies, so dies the other. Yes, they all have one breath and spirit, so that a man has no preeminence over a beast; for all is vanity (emptiness, falsity, and futility)!

Pues lo mismo les sucede a los hijos de los hombres que a las bestias: como mueren las unas, así mueren los otros, y todos tienen un mismo aliento de vida. No es más el hombre que la bestia, porque todo es vanidad.

20 A ll go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Todo va a un mismo lugar; todo fue hecho del polvo, y todo al polvo volverá.

21 W ho knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the beast, whether it goes downward to the earth?

¿Quién sabe si el espíritu de los hijos de los hombres sube a lo alto, y el espíritu del animal baja a lo hondo de la tierra?

22 S o I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his own works, for that is his portion. For who shall bring him back to see what will happen after he is gone?

Así, pues, he visto que no hay cosa mejor para el hombre que alegrarse en su trabajo, porque ésa es su recompensa; porque, ¿quién lo llevará para que vea lo que ha de venir después de él?
