1 T hen Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him and said, Has not the Lord anointed you to be prince over His heritage Israel?

Tomó entonces Samuel una redoma de aceite, la derramó sobre su cabeza, lo besó, y le dijo: —¿No te ha ungido Jehová por príncipe sobre su pueblo Israel?

2 W hen you have left me today, you will meet two men by Rachel’s tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah, and they will say to you, The donkeys you sought are found. And your father has quit caring about them and is anxious for you, asking, What shall I do about my son?

Hoy, después que te hayas apartado de mí, hallarás dos hombres junto al sepulcro de Raquel, en Selsa, en el territorio de Benjamín, los cuales te dirán: “Las asnas que habías ido a buscar se han hallado; tu padre ha dejado ya de inquietarse por las asnas, y está afligido por vosotros, y dice: ‘¿Qué haré acerca de mi hijo?’”

3 T hen you will go on from there and you will come to the oak of Tabor, and three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there, one carrying three kids, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin bottle of wine.

Más adelante, cuando llegues a la encina de Tabor, te saldrán al encuentro tres hombres que suben a Dios, en Bet-el, llevando uno tres cabritos, otro tres tortas de pan y el tercero una vasija de vino.

4 T hey will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall accept from their hand.

Luego que te hayan saludado, te darán dos panes, que tú tomarás de su mano.

5 A fter that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is; and when you come to the city, you will meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them, prophesying.

Después de esto llegarás al collado de Dios, donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y cuando entres en la ciudad encontrarás una compañía de profetas que descienden del lugar alto, precedidos de salterio, pandero, flauta y arpa, y ellos profetizando.

6 T hen the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you will show yourself to be a prophet with them; and you will be turned into another man.

Entonces el espíritu de Jehová vendrá sobre ti con poder y profetizarás con ellos, y serás mudado en otro hombre.

7 W hen these signs meet you, do whatever you find to be done, for God is with you.

Cuando se te hayan cumplido estas señales, haz lo que te parezca bien, porque Dios está contigo.

8 Y ou shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you shall do.

Luego bajarás delante de mí a Gilgal; entonces descenderé yo junto a ti para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz. Espera siete días, hasta que yo vaya a tu encuentro y te enseñe lo que has de hacer.

9 A nd when had turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart, and all these signs came to pass that day.

Aconteció luego, que apenas volvió él la espalda para apartarse de Samuel, le mudó Dios el corazón; y todas estas señales acontecieron en aquel día.

10 W hen they came to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he spoke under divine inspiration among them.

Cuando llegaron allá al collado, la compañía de los profetas les salió al encuentro. Entonces el espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con poder, y profetizó entre ellos.

11 A nd when all who knew Saul before saw that he spoke by inspiration among the prophets, the people said one to another, What has come over the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

Todos los que lo conocían de antes, al verlo que profetizaba con los profetas, se decían unos a otros: «¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Saúl también está entre los profetas?»

12 O ne from that same place answered, But who is the father of the others? So it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

Y alguno de allí preguntó: «¿Y quién es el padre de estos?» Por esta causa se hizo proverbio: «¿También Saúl entre los profetas?»

13 W hen had ended his inspired speaking, he went to the high place.

Cuando cesó de profetizar, llegó al lugar alto.

14 S aul’s uncle said to him and to his servant, Where did you go? And Saul said, To look for the donkeys, and when we found them nowhere, we went to Samuel.

Un tío de Saúl dijo a él y a su criado: —¿A dónde fuisteis? Él respondió: —A buscar las asnas; y como vimos que no aparecían, acudimos a Samuel.

15 S aul’s uncle said, Tell me, what did Samuel say to you?

Dijo el tío de Saúl: —Te ruego que me cuentes qué os dijo Samuel.

16 A nd Saul said to his uncle, He told us plainly that the donkeys were found. But of the matter of the kingdom of which Samuel spoke he told him nothing.

Saúl respondió a su tío: —Nos declaró expresamente que las asnas habían sido halladas. Pero del asunto del reino, de que Samuel le había hablado, no le contó nada.

17 A nd Samuel called the people together to the Lord at Mizpah

Después Samuel convocó al pueblo delante de Jehová en Mizpa,

18 A nd said to the Israelites, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: It was I Who brought up Israel out of Egypt and delivered you out of the hands of the Egyptians and of all the kingdoms that oppressed you.

y dijo a los hijos de Israel: «Así ha dicho Jehová, el Dios de Israel: Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y os libré de manos de los egipcios y de manos de todos los reinos que os afligieron.

19 B ut you have this day rejected your God, Who Himself saves you from all your calamities and distresses; and you have said to Him, No! Set a king over us. So now present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your thousands.

Pero vosotros habéis desechado hoy a vuestro Dios, que os guarda de todas vuestras aflicciones y angustias, y habéis dicho: “No, tú nos darás un rey”. Ahora, pues, presentaos delante de Jehová por vuestras tribus y familias.»

20 A nd when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

Samuel hizo acercarse a todas las tribus de Israel, y fue designada la tribu de Benjamín.

21 W hen he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken. And Saul son of Kish was taken. But when they looked for him, he could not be found.

Hizo que se acercara la tribu de Benjamín por familias, y fue designada la familia de Matri; y de ella fue tomado Saúl hijo de Cis. Lo buscaron, pero no fue hallado.

22 T herefore they inquired of the Lord further, if the man would yet come back. And the Lord answered, Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.

Preguntaron, pues, otra vez a Jehová si aún no había concurrido allí aquel hombre. Y respondió Jehová: «Está ahí, escondido entre el bagaje.»

23 T hey ran and brought him from there. And when he stood among the people, he was a head taller than any of them.

Entonces corrieron, lo sacaron de allí y, puesto en medio del pueblo, sobresalía por encima de todos de los hombros para arriba.

24 A nd Samuel said to all the people, Do you see him whom the Lord has chosen, that none like him is among all the people? And all the people shouted and said, Long live the king!

Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: —¿Habéis visto al elegido de Jehová? No hay nadie como él en todo el pueblo. Entonces el pueblo gritó con alegría: —¡Viva el rey!

25 T hen Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the Lord. And Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his home.

Samuel expuso luego al pueblo las leyes del reino, y las escribió en un libro, el cual guardó delante de Jehová.

26 S aul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of valiant men whose hearts God had touched.

Y envió Samuel a todo el pueblo cada uno a su casa. Saúl también se fue a su casa en Gabaa, y lo acompañaron los hombres de guerra cuyos corazones Dios había tocado.

27 B ut some worthless fellows said, How can this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no gift. But he held his peace and was as if deaf.

Pero algunos perversos dijeron: «¿Cómo nos ha de salvar éste?» Lo despreciaron y no le llevaron presentes; pero él disimuló.
