1 T hen Joshua called the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh,

Entonces Josué llamó a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés,

2 A nd said to them, You have kept all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.

y les dijo: «Vosotros habéis guardado todo lo que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os mandó, y habéis obedecido a mi voz en todo lo que os he mandado.

3 Y ou have not deserted your brethren these many days to this day but have carefully kept the charge of the Lord your God.

No habéis abandonado a vuestros hermanos en este largo tiempo, hasta el día de hoy, sino que os habéis cuidado de guardar los mandamientos de Jehová, vuestro Dios.

4 B ut now the Lord your God has given rest to your brethren, as He promised them; so now go, return to your homes in the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the side of the Jordan.

Ahora, pues, que Jehová, vuestro Dios, ha dado reposo a vuestros hermanos como lo había prometido, volved, regresad a vuestras tiendas, a la tierra de las posesiones que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os dio al otro lado del Jordán.

5 B ut take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you: to love the Lord your God and to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and to cling to and unite with Him and to serve Him with all your heart and soul.

Solamente que con diligencia cuidéis de cumplir el mandamiento y la ley que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os ordenó: que améis a Jehová, vuestro Dios, y andéis en todos sus caminos; que guardéis sus mandamientos, lo sigáis y lo sirváis con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma.»

6 S o Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their homes.

Josué los bendijo y los despidió, y ellos se fueron a sus tiendas.

7 N ow to one-half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave a possession on the west side of the Jordan among their brethren. So when Joshua sent them away to their homes, he blessed them,

A la media tribu de Manasés le había dado Moisés una posesión en Basán; a la otra mitad le dio Josué una heredad entre sus hermanos a este lado del Jordán, al occidente. También a estos los envió Josué a sus tiendas, después de haberlos bendecido,

8 A nd he said to them, Return with much riches to your tents and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and very much clothing. Divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

y les dijo: «Volved a vuestras tiendas con grandes riquezas, con mucho ganado, con plata, oro y bronce, y con muchos vestidos; compartid con vuestros hermanos el botín de vuestros enemigos.»

9 S o the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, parting from the Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan to go to the land of Gilead, their own land of which they had been given possession by the command of the Lord through Moses.

Así los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés se volvieron, separándose de los hijos de Israel en Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán, para ir a la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de sus posesiones, en la cual se habían establecido conforme al mandato que Jehová había dado por conducto de Moisés.

10 A nd when they came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar great to behold.

Cuando llegaron a los límites del Jordán que está en la tierra de Canaán, los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés edificaron allí un altar junto al Jordán, un altar de apariencia grandiosa.

11 A nd the Israelites heard it said, Behold, the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the edge of the land of Canaan in the region of the Jordan in the passage, the Israelites.

Los hijos de Israel se enteraron de que los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés habían edificado un altar frente a la tierra de Canaán, en los límites del Jordán, del lado de los hijos de Israel.

12 W hen the Israelites heard of it, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered at Shiloh to make war on them.

Cuando los hijos de Israel oyeron esto, se juntó toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en Silo, para subir a pelear contra ellos.

13 A nd the Israelites sent to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest,

Pero antes enviaron los hijos de Israel a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés, a la tierra de Galaad, a Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar,

14 A nd with him ten chiefs, one from each of the tribal families of Israel; and each one was a head of a father’s house among the clans of Israel.

y a diez príncipes con él: un príncipe por cada casa paterna de todas las tribus de Israel, cada uno de los cuales era jefe de la casa de sus padres entre los millares de Israel.

15 A nd they came to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they said to them,

Cuando llegaron donde estaban los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, en la tierra de Galaad, les dijeron:

16 T he whole congregation of the Lord says, What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the Lord, in that you have built yourselves an altar to rebel this day against the Lord?

—Toda la congregación de Jehová dice así: “¿Qué traición es ésta que cometéis contra el Dios de Israel, al apartaros hoy de seguir a Jehová, edificándoos un altar y rebelándoos contra Jehová?

17 I s the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed even now, although there came a plague in the congregation of the Lord,

¿No ha bastado con la maldad de Peor, de la que aún hoy no estamos limpios, por la cual vino la mortandad sobre la congregación de Jehová,

18 T hat you must turn away this day from following the Lord? The result will be, since you rebel today against the Lord, that tomorrow He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

para que vosotros os apartéis hoy de seguir a Jehová? Vosotros os rebeláis hoy contra Jehová, y mañana se encenderá su ira contra toda la congregación de Israel.

19 B ut now, if your land is unclean, pass over into the Lord’s land, where the Lord’s tabernacle resides, and take for yourselves a possession among us. But do not rebel against the Lord or rebel against us by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the Lord our God.

Si os parece que la tierra que os pertenece es inmunda, pasaos a la tierra que pertenece a Jehová, en la cual está el tabernáculo de Jehová, y habitad entre nosotros, pero no os rebeléis contra Jehová, ni os rebeléis contra nosotros, edificándoos un altar además del altar de Jehová, nuestro Dios.

20 D id not Achan son of Zerah commit a trespass in the matter of taking accursed things and wrath fall on all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone in his perversity and iniquity.

¿No cometió Acán hijo de Zera una transgresión en el anatema, y la ira cayó sobre toda la congregación de Israel? Aquel hombre no fue el único que pereció por su pecado.”

21 T hen the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh said to the heads of the clans of Israel,

Entonces los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés respondieron a los cabezas de los millares de Israel:

22 T he Mighty One, God, the Lord! The Mighty One, God, the Lord! He knows, and let Israel itself know! If it was in rebellion or in transgression against the Lord, spare us not today.

—Jehová, Dios de los dioses, Jehová, Dios de los dioses, él sabe y hace saber a Israel: si fue por rebelión o por infidelidad contra Jehová, no nos salves hoy.

23 I f we have built us an altar to turn away from following the Lord, or if we did so to offer on it burnt offerings or cereal offerings or peace offerings, may the Lord Himself take vengeance.

Si nos hemos edificado altar para apartarnos de Jehová, o para presentar holocaustos u ofrendas, o para hacer sobre él ofrendas de paz, el mismo Jehová nos lo demande.

24 N o! But we did it for fear that in time to come your children might say to our children, What have you to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?

Lo hicimos más bien por temor de que mañana vuestros hijos digan a nuestros hijos: “¿Qué tenéis vosotros que ver con Jehová, el Dios de Israel?

25 F or the Lord has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you, you Reubenites and Gadites; you have no part in the Lord. So your children might make our children cease from fearing the Lord.

Jehová ha puesto por lindero el Jordán entre nosotros y vosotros, hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad. ¡No tenéis vosotros parte con Jehová!” Y así vuestros hijos harían que nuestros hijos dejaran de temer a Jehová.

26 S o we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering nor for sacrifice,

Por esto nos dijimos: “Edifiquemos ahora un altar, no para holocaustos ni para sacrificios,

27 B ut to be a witness between us and you and between the generations after us, that we will perform the service of the Lord before Him with our burnt offerings and sacrifices and peace offerings; lest your children say to our children in time to come, You have no portion in the Lord.

sino para que sea un testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros y entre los que vendrán después de nosotros, de que podemos hacer el servicio de Jehová delante de él con nuestros holocaustos, nuestros sacrificios y nuestras ofrendas de paz; para que no digan mañana vuestros hijos a los nuestros: ‘Vosotros no tenéis parte con Jehová.’”

28 S o we thought, if that should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we can reply, Behold the copy of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings nor for sacrifices, but to be a witness between us and you.

Nosotros, pues, nos dijimos: “Si acontece que en lo por venir nos dicen tal cosa a nosotros o a nuestros descendientes, entonces responderemos: ‘Mirad la forma del altar de Jehová, el cual construyeron nuestros padres, no para holocaustos o sacrificios, sino como un testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros.’”

29 F ar be it from us that we should rebel against the Lord and turn away this day from following the Lord to build an altar for burnt offerings, for cereal offerings, or for sacrifices, besides the altar of the Lord our God that is before His tabernacle.

Nunca acontezca que nos rebelemos contra Jehová o que nos apartemos hoy de seguir a Jehová edificando un altar para holocaustos, ofrendas o sacrificios, aparte del altar de Jehová, nuestro Dios, que está delante de su Tabernáculo.

30 A nd when Phinehas the priest and the chiefs of the congregation and heads of the clans of Israel who were with him heard the words that the Reubenites, Gadites, and Manassites spoke, it pleased them.

Cuando Finees, el sacerdote, los príncipes de la congregación y los jefes de los millares de Israel que con él estaban, oyeron las palabras pronunciadas por los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, les pareció bien todo ello.

31 P hinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, said to the Reubenites, Gadites, and Manassites, Today we know the Lord is among us, because you have not committed this trespass and treachery against the Lord; now you have saved the Israelites from the Lord’s hand.

Y dijo Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Manasés: —Hoy hemos entendido que Jehová está entre nosotros, pues no habéis intentado esta traición contra Jehová. Así habéis librado a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Jehová.

32 T hen Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, and the chiefs returned from the Reubenites and Gadites in the land of Gilead to the land of Canaan, to the Israelites, and brought back word to them.

Luego Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes, dejando a los hijos de Rubén y a los hijos de Gad, regresaron de la tierra de Galaad a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel, y les dieron la respuesta.

33 T he report pleased the Israelites and they blessed God; and they spoke no more of going to war against them to destroy the land in which the Reubenites and Gadites dwelt.

El asunto pareció bien a los hijos de Israel y bendijeron a su Dios. No hablaron más de hacerles la guerra y destruir la tierra en que habitaban los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

34 T he Reubenites and Gadites called the altar Ed, saying, It shall be: A Witness Between Us that the Lord is God.

Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad pusieron al altar el nombre de Ed, porque dijeron: «Testimonio es entre nosotros de que Jehová es Dios.»
