1 A nd again Jesus spoke to them in parables (comparisons, stories used to illustrate and explain), saying,

Respondiendo Jesús, les volvió a hablar en parábolas, diciendo:

2 T he kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son

«El reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que hizo una fiesta de bodas a su hijo.

3 A nd sent his servants to summon those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they refused to come.

Envió a sus siervos a llamar a los invitados a la boda, pero estos no quisieron asistir.

4 A gain he sent other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my banquet; my bullocks and my fat calves are killed, and everything is prepared; come to the wedding feast.

Volvió a enviar otros siervos con este encargo: “Decid a los invitados que ya he preparado mi comida. He hecho matar mis toros y mis animales engordados, y todo está dispuesto; venid a la boda.”

5 B ut they were not concerned and paid no attention and they went away—one to his farm, another to his business,

Pero ellos, sin hacer caso, se fueron: uno a su labranza, otro a sus negocios;

6 W hile the others seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and put them to death.

y otros, tomando a los siervos, los golpearon y los mataron.

7 t he king was infuriated; and he sent his soldiers and put those murderers to death and burned their city.

Al oírlo el rey, se enojó y, enviando sus ejércitos, mató a aquellos homicidas y quemó su ciudad.

8 T hen he said to his servants, The wedding is prepared, but those invited were not worthy.

Entonces dijo a sus siervos: “La boda a la verdad está preparada, pero los que fueron invitados no eran dignos.

9 S o go to the thoroughfares where they leave the city and invite to the wedding feast as many as you find.

Id, pues, a las salidas de los caminos y llamad a la boda a cuantos halléis.”

10 A nd those servants went out on the crossroads and got together as many as they found, both bad and good, so the wedding feast was filled with guests.

Entonces salieron los siervos por los caminos y reunieron a todos los que hallaron, tanto malos como buenos, y la boda se llenó de invitados.

11 B ut when the king came in to view the guests, he looked intently at a man there who had on no wedding garment.

»Cuando entró el rey para ver a los invitados, vio allí a un hombre que no estaba vestido de bodas,

12 A nd he said, Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the wedding garment? And he was speechless ( muzzled, gagged).

y le dijo: “Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin estar vestido de bodas?” Pero él guardó silencio.

13 T hen the king said to the attendants, Tie him hand and foot, and throw him into the darkness outside; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.

Entonces el rey dijo a los que servían: “Atadlo de pies y manos y echadlo a las tinieblas de afuera; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes”,

14 F or many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen.

pues muchos son llamados, pero pocos escogidos.» La cuestión del tributo

15 T hen the Pharisees went and consulted and plotted together how they might entangle Jesus in His talk.

Entonces se fueron los fariseos y consultaron cómo sorprenderlo en alguna palabra.

16 A nd they sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are sincere and what You profess to be and that You teach the way of God truthfully, regardless of consequences and being afraid of no man; for You are impartial and do not regard either the person or the position of anyone.

Y le enviaron sus discípulos junto con los herodianos, diciendo: —Maestro, sabemos que eres amante de la verdad y que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios, y no te cuidas de nadie, porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres.

17 T ell us then what You think about this: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Caesar or not?

Dinos, pues, qué te parece: ¿Está permitido dar tributo a César, o no?

18 B ut Jesus, aware of their malicious plot, asked, Why do you put Me to the test and try to entrap Me, you pretenders (hypocrites)?

Pero Jesús, conociendo la malicia de ellos, les dijo: —¿Por qué me tentáis, hipócritas?

19 S how me the money used for the tribute. And they brought Him a denarius.

Mostradme la moneda del tributo. Ellos le presentaron un denario.

20 A nd Jesus said to them, Whose likeness and title are these?

Entonces les preguntó: —¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción?

21 T hey said, Caesar’s. Then He said to them, Pay therefore to Caesar the things that are due to Caesar, and pay to God the things that are due to God.

Le dijeron: —De César. Y les dijo: —Dad, pues, a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

22 W hen they heard it they were amazed and marveled; and they left Him and departed.

Al oír esto se maravillaron, y dejándolo, se fueron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

23 T he same day some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and they asked Him a question,

Aquel día se acercaron a él los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron,

24 S aying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies, leaving no children, his brother shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.

diciendo: —Maestro, Moisés dijo: “Si alguien muere sin hijos, su hermano se casará con su mujer y levantará descendencia a su hermano.”

25 N ow there were seven brothers among us; the first married and died, and, having no children, left his wife to his brother.

Hubo, pues, entre nosotros siete hermanos: el primero se casó y, como murió sin dejar descendencia, dejó su mujer a su hermano.

26 T he second also died childless, and the third, down to the seventh.

De la misma manera también el segundo, y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.

27 L ast of all, the woman died also.

Después de todos murió también la mujer.

28 N ow, in the resurrection, to which of the seven will she be wife? For they all had her.

En la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de los siete será ella mujer, ya que todos la tuvieron?

29 B ut Jesus replied to them, You are wrong because you know neither the Scriptures nor God’s power.

Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Erráis, ignorando las Escrituras y el poder de Dios,

30 F or in the resurrected state neither do marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.

pues en la resurrección ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino serán como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

31 B ut as to the resurrection of the dead—have you never read what was said to you by God,

Pero respecto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no habéis leído lo que os fue dicho por Dios, cuando afirmó:

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living!

“Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob”? Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.

33 A nd when the throng heard it, they were astonished and filled with '> glad] amazement at His teaching.

Al oír esto, la gente se admiraba de su doctrina. El gran mandamiento

34 N ow when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced ( muzzled) the Sadducees, they gathered together.

Entonces los fariseos, cuando oyeron que había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron.

35 A nd one of their number, a lawyer, asked Him a question to test Him.

Y uno de ellos, intérprete de la Ley, preguntó para tentarlo, diciendo:

36 T eacher, which kind of commandment is great and important (the principal kind) in the Law?

—Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento en la Ley?

37 A nd He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect).

Jesús le dijo: —“Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente.”

38 T his is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment.

Éste es el primero y grande mandamiento.

39 A nd a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Y el segundo es semejante: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.”

40 T hese two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.

De estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los Profetas. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

41 N ow while the Pharisees were still assembled there, Jesus asked them a question,

Estando reunidos los fariseos, Jesús les preguntó,

42 S aying, What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He? They said to Him, The Son of David.

diciendo: —¿Qué pensáis del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo? Le dijeron: —De David.

43 H e said to them, How is it then that David, under the influence of the Spirit, calls Him Lord, saying,

Él les dijo: —¿Cómo, pues, David, en el Espíritu lo llama Señor, diciendo:

44 T he Lord said to My Lord, Sit at My right hand until I put Your enemies under Your feet?

»“Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: siéntate a mi derecha, hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies”?

45 I f then David thus calls Him Lord, how is He his Son?

»Pues si David lo llama Señor, ¿cómo es su hijo?

46 A nd no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day did anyone venture or dare to question Him.

Y nadie le podía responder palabra; ni se atrevió ninguno a preguntarle más desde aquel día.
