1 T he word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Palabra de Jehová que vino al profeta Jeremías acerca de los filisteos, antes que el faraón destruyera Gaza.

2 T hus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north and shall become an overflowing stream and shall overflow the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell in it. Then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

Así ha dicho Jehová: «Suben aguas del norte y se harán un torrente; inundarán la tierra y lo que la llena, la ciudad y a los que moran en ella. Los hombres clamarán, y lamentará todo morador de la tierra,

por el estrépito de los cascos de sus caballos, por el retumbar de sus carros, por el estruendo de sus ruedas. Los padres no cuidan de los hijos, porque sus manos están sin fuerzas.

Ha llegado el día de destruir a todos los filisteos, de destruir a todo aliado que todavía les quede a Tiro y a Sidón. Porque Jehová destruirá a los filisteos, al resto de la costa de Caftor.

Gaza se rapó la cabeza, Ascalón ha perecido, y el resto de su valle; ¿cuándo dejarás de sajarte?

6 O you sword of the Lord, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest and be still.

Espada de Jehová, ¿cuándo vas a descansar? ¡Vuelve a tu vaina, reposa y sosiégate!

7 H ow can it be quiet when the Lord has given it an assignment to discharge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore He has appointed it.

Pero ¿cómo reposarás, si Jehová te ha enviado contra Ascalón y contra la costa del mar? Allí te ha destinado.»
