1 W hen they were getting near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, He sent ahead two of His disciples

Cuando se acercaban a Jerusalén, junto a Betfagé y a Betania, frente al Monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos de sus discípulos,

2 A nd instructed them, Go into the village in front of you, and as soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied, which has never been ridden by anyone; unfasten it and bring it.

y les dijo: —Id a la aldea que está enfrente de vosotros, y al entrar en ella hallaréis un pollino atado, en el cual ningún hombre ha montado. Desatadlo y traedlo.

3 I f anyone asks you, Why are you doing this? answer, The Lord needs it, and He will send it back here presently.

Y si alguien os pregunta: “¿Por qué hacéis eso?”, decid que el Señor lo necesita y que luego lo devolverá.

4 S o they went away and found a colt tied at the door out in the open street, and they loosed it.

Fueron, y hallaron el pollino atado afuera a la puerta, en el recodo del camino, y lo desataron.

5 A nd some who were standing there said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt?

Algunos de los que estaban allí les preguntaron: —¿Qué hacéis desatando el pollino?

6 A nd they replied as Jesus had directed them, and they allowed them to go.

Ellos entonces les dijeron como Jesús había dicho, y los dejaron ir.

7 A nd they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their outer garments upon it, and He sat on it.

Trajeron el pollino a Jesús, echaron sobre él sus mantos, y se sentó sobre él.

8 A nd many spread their garments on the road, and others leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.

También muchos tendían sus mantos por el camino, y otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían por el camino.

9 A nd those who went before and those who followed cried out '> with a cry of happiness], Hosanna! Praised and blessed is He Who comes in the name of the Lord!

Los que iban delante y los que venían detrás gritaban, diciendo: —¡Hosana! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!

10 P raised and blessed in the name of the Lord is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna (O save us) in the highest!

¡Bendito el reino de nuestro padre David que viene! ¡Hosana en las alturas!

11 A nd Jesus went into Jerusalem and entered the temple '> enclosure]; and when He had looked around, surveying and observing everything, as it was already late, He went out to Bethany together with the Twelve.

Entró Jesús en Jerusalén y fue al Templo. Después de observarlo todo, como ya anochecía, se fue a Betania con los doce. Jesús maldice la higuera estéril

12 O n the day following, when they had come away from Bethany, He was hungry.

Al día siguiente, cuando salieron de Betania, tuvo hambre.

13 A nd seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, He went to see if He could find any on it '> for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come.

Viendo a lo lejos una higuera que tenía hojas, fue a ver si tal vez hallaba en ella algo; pero cuando llegó a ella, nada halló sino hojas, pues no era tiempo de higos.

14 A nd He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. And His disciples were listening.

Entonces Jesús dijo a la higuera: —¡Nunca jamás coma nadie fruto de ti! Y lo oyeron sus discípulos. Purificación del Templo

15 A nd they came to Jerusalem. And He went into the temple '> porches and courts] and began to drive out those who sold and bought in the temple area, and He overturned the '> four-footed] tables of the money changers and the seats of those who dealt in doves;

Vinieron, pues, a Jerusalén, y entrando Jesús en el Templo comenzó a echar fuera a los que vendían y compraban en el Templo. Volcó las mesas de los cambistas y las sillas de los que vendían palomas;

16 A nd He would not permit anyone to carry any household equipment through the temple enclosure.

y no consentía que nadie atravesara el Templo llevando utensilio alguno.

17 A nd He taught and said to them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? But you have turned it into a den of robbers.

Y les enseñaba, diciendo: —¿No está escrito: “Mi casa será llamada casa de oración para todas las naciones”? Pero vosotros la habéis hecho cueva de ladrones.

18 A nd the chief priests and the scribes heard and kept seeking some way to destroy Him, for they feared Him, because the entire multitude was struck with astonishment at His teaching.

Lo oyeron los escribas y los principales sacerdotes, y buscaban cómo matarlo, porque le tenían miedo, por cuanto todo el pueblo estaba admirado de su doctrina.

19 A nd when evening came on, He and His disciples, as accustomed, went out of the city.

Pero al llegar la noche, Jesús salió de la ciudad. La higuera maldecida se seca

20 I n the morning, when they were passing along, they noticed that the fig tree was withered away to its roots.

Por la mañana, al pasar junto a la higuera, vieron que se había secado desde las raíces.

21 A nd Peter remembered and said to Him, Master, look! The fig tree which You doomed has withered away!

Entonces Pedro, acordándose, le dijo: —Maestro, mira, la higuera que maldijiste se ha secado.

22 A nd Jesus, replying, said to them, Have faith in God.

Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Tened fe en Dios.

23 T ruly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, Be lifted up and thrown into the sea! and does not doubt at all in his heart but believes that what he says will take place, it will be done for him.

De cierto os digo que cualquiera que diga a este monte: “Quítate y arrójate en el mar”, y no duda en su corazón, sino que cree que será hecho lo que dice, lo que diga le será hecho.

24 F or this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will.

Por tanto, os digo que todo lo que pidáis orando, creed que lo recibiréis, y os vendrá.

25 A nd whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him and let it drop (leave it, let it go), in order that your Father Who is in heaven may also forgive you your failings and shortcomings and let them drop.

Y cuando estéis orando, perdonad, si tenéis algo contra alguien, para que también vuestro Padre que está en los cielos os perdone a vosotros vuestras ofensas,

26 B ut if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your failings and shortcomings.

porque si vosotros no perdonáis, tampoco vuestro Padre que está en los cielos os perdonará vuestras ofensas. La autoridad de Jesús

27 A nd they came again to Jerusalem. And when Jesus was walking about in the '> courts and porches of the] temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to Him,

Volvieron entonces a Jerusalén y, andando él por el Templo, se le acercaron los principales sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos,

28 A nd they kept saying to Him, By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do them?

y le preguntaron: —¿Con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿Quién te dio autoridad para hacer estas cosas?

29 J esus told them, I will ask you a question. Answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Jesús, respondiendo, les dijo: —Os haré yo también una pregunta. Respondedme y os diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.

30 W as the baptism of John from heaven or from men? Answer Me.

El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo, o de los hombres? Respondedme.

31 A nd they reasoned and argued with one another, If we say, From heaven, He will say, Why then did you not believe him?

Entonces ellos discutían entre sí, diciendo: —Si decimos “del cielo”, dirá: “¿Por qué, pues, no lo creísteis?”

32 B ut can we say, From men? For they were afraid of the people, because everybody considered and held John actually to be a prophet.

¿Y si decimos “de los hombres”?... Pero temían al pueblo, pues todos tenían a Juan como un verdadero profeta.

33 S o they replied to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus said to them, Neither am I going to tell you what authority I have for doing these things.

Así que, respondiendo, dijeron a Jesús: —No sabemos. Entonces, respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Tampoco yo os digo con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.
