1 N ow the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before them and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

Los filisteos pelearon contra Israel; huyeron delante de ellos los israelitas, pues muchos cayeron heridos de muerte en el monte Gilboa.

2 A nd the Philistines followed close after Saul and his sons and overtook them, and the Philistines slew Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

Los filisteos siguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 A nd the battle raged about Saul, and the archers found and wounded him.

Al concentrar sus ataques contra Saúl, le alcanzaron los flecheros y fue herido por ellos.

4 T hen Saul said to his armor-bearer, Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse and make sport of me. But his armor-bearer would not, for he was terrified. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

Entonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan mofa de mí»; pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl tomó la espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 W hen his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died.

Cuando su escudero vio a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y se mató.

6 S o Saul died; he and his three sons and all his house died together.

Así murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos; y toda su casa murió junto con él.

7 A nd when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Al ver todos los de Israel que habitaban en el valle que habían huido las tropas y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, dejaron sus ciudades y huyeron. Vinieron entonces los filisteos y se establecieron en ellas.

8 T he next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.

Sucedió al día siguiente, que al venir los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte Gilboa.

9 T hey stripped and took his head and his armor, and sent round about in Philistia to carry the news to their idols and to the people.

Luego que lo despojaron, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar la buena noticia a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 A nd they put armor in the house of their gods and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

Después pusieron sus armas en el templo de sus dioses y colgaron su cabeza en el templo de Dagón.

11 W hen all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

Cuando oyeron los de Jabes de Galaad lo que habían hecho los filisteos de Saúl,

12 A ll the brave men arose, took away the bodies of Saul and his sons, brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh; then they fasted seven days.

se levantaron todos los hombres valientes, tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, y los trajeron a Jabes; enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

13 S o Saul died for his trespass against the Lord, for his unfaithfulness in not keeping God’s word, and also for consulting a spirit of the dead to inquire pleadingly of it,

Así murió Saúl a causa de su rebelión con que pecó contra Jehová, contra la palabra de Jehová, la cual no guardó, y porque consultó a una adivina,

14 A nd inquired not so of the Lord. Therefore the Lord slew him and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.

y no consultó a Jehová; por esta causa lo mató, y traspasó el reino a David hijo de Isaí.
