1 T hen Jesus called together the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases,
Reuniendo a sus doce discípulos, les dio poder y autoridad sobre todos los demonios y para sanar enfermedades.
2 A nd He sent them out to announce and preach the kingdom of God and to bring healing.
Y los envió a predicar el reino de Dios y a sanar a los enfermos.
3 A nd He said to them, Do not take anything for your journey—neither walking stick, nor wallet, nor food of any kind, nor money, and do not have two undergarments (tunics).
Les dijo: —No toméis nada para el camino: ni bastón, ni alforja, ni pan, ni dinero; ni llevéis dos túnicas.
4 A nd whatever house you enter, stay there until you go away.
En cualquier casa donde entréis, quedad allí, y de allí salid.
5 A nd wherever they do not receive and accept and welcome you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet, as a testimony against them.
Dondequiera que no os reciban, salid de aquella ciudad y sacudid el polvo de vuestros pies en testimonio contra ellos.
6 A nd departing, they went about from village to village, preaching the Gospel and restoring the afflicted to health everywhere.
Y saliendo, pasaban por todas las aldeas anunciando el evangelio y sanando por todas partes. Muerte de Juan el Bautista
7 N ow Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was being done by, and he was perplexed and troubled, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead,
Herodes, el tetrarca, oyó de todas las cosas que hacía Jesús, y estaba perplejo, porque decían algunos: «Juan ha resucitado de los muertos»;
8 A nd by others that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had come back to life.
otros: «Elías ha aparecido»; y otros: «Algún profeta de los antiguos ha resucitado.»
9 B ut Herod said, John I beheaded; but Who is this about Whom I such things by hearsay? And he sought to see Him.
Y dijo Herodes: —A Juan yo lo hice decapitar; ¿quién, pues, es éste de quien oigo tales cosas? Y procuraba verlo. Alimentación de los cinco mil
10 U pon their return, the apostles reported to Jesus all that they had done. And He took them and withdrew into privacy near a town called Bethsaida.
Al regresar los apóstoles, le contaron todo lo que habían hecho. Y tomándolos, se retiró aparte, a un lugar desierto de la ciudad llamada Betsaida.
11 B ut when the crowds learned of it, followed Him; and He welcomed them and talked to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed restoration to health.
Cuando la gente lo supo, lo siguió; y él los recibió, les hablaba del reino de Dios y sanaba a los que necesitaban ser curados.
12 N ow the day began to decline, and the Twelve came and said to Him, Dismiss the crowds and send them away, so that they may go to the neighboring hamlets and villages and the surrounding country and find lodging and get a supply of provisions, for we are here in an uninhabited (barren, solitary) place.
Pero el día comenzaba a declinar. Acercándose los doce, le dijeron: —Despide a la gente, para que vayan a las aldeas y campos de alrededor y se alojen y encuentren alimentos, porque aquí estamos en lugar desierto.
13 B ut He said to them, You give them to eat. They said, We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all this crowd,
Él les dijo: —Dadles vosotros de comer. Dijeron ellos: —No tenemos más que cinco panes y dos peces, a no ser que vayamos nosotros a comprar alimentos para toda esta multitud.
14 F or there were about 5, 000 men. And said to His disciples, Have them reclining in table groups (companies) of about fifty each.
Eran como cinco mil hombres. Entonces dijo a sus discípulos: —Hacedlos sentar en grupos de cincuenta.
15 A nd they did so, and made them all recline.
Así lo hicieron, haciéndolos sentar a todos.
16 A nd taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven and gave thanks and asked Him to bless them. Then He broke them and gave them to the disciples to place before the multitude.
Y tomando los cinco panes y los dos peces, levantó los ojos al cielo, los bendijo, los partió y dio a sus discípulos para que los pusieran delante de la gente.
17 A nd all the people ate and were satisfied. And they gathered up what remained over—twelve '> small hand] baskets of broken pieces.
Comieron todos y se saciaron; y recogieron lo que les sobró: doce cestas de pedazos. La confesión de Pedro
18 N ow it occurred that as Jesus was praying privately, the disciples were with Him, and He asked them, Who do men say that I am?
Aconteció que mientras Jesús oraba aparte, estaban con él los discípulos; y les preguntó, diciendo: —¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?
19 A nd they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back to life.
Ellos respondieron: —Unos, Juan el Bautista; otros, Elías; y otros, que algún profeta de los antiguos ha resucitado.
20 A nd He said to them, But who do you say that I am? And Peter replied, The Christ of God!
Él les dijo: —¿Y vosotros, quién decís que soy? Entonces, respondiendo Pedro, dijo: —El Cristo de Dios. Jesús anuncia su muerte
21 B ut He strictly charged and sharply commanded them '> under penalty] to tell this to no one '> whoever he might be],
Pero él les mandó que a nadie dijeran esto, encargándoselo rigurosamente,
22 S aying, The Son of Man must suffer many things and be '> deliberately] disapproved and repudiated and rejected on the part of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death and on the third day be raised.
y diciendo: —Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre padezca muchas cosas y sea desechado por los ancianos, por los principales sacerdotes y por los escribas, y que sea muerto y resucite al tercer día.
23 A nd He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself '> disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me '> cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also].
Y decía a todos: —Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz cada día y sígame.
24 F or whoever would preserve his life and save it will lose and destroy it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he will preserve and save it '> from the penalty of eternal death].
Todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, éste la salvará,
25 F or what does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and ruins or forfeits (loses) himself?
pues, ¿qué aprovecha al hombre si gana todo el mundo y se destruye o se pierde a sí mismo?,
26 B ecause whoever is ashamed of Me and of My teachings, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when He comes in the '> threefold] glory (the splendor and majesty) of Himself and of the Father and of the holy angels.
porque el que se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras, de éste se avergonzará el Hijo del hombre cuando venga en su gloria, y en la del Padre y de los santos ángeles.
27 H owever I tell you truly, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.
Pero en verdad os digo que hay algunos de los que están aquí que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean el reino de Dios. La transfiguración
28 N ow about eight days after these teachings, Jesus took with Him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
Como ocho días después de estas palabras, Jesús tomó a Pedro, a Juan y a Jacobo, y subió al monte a orar.
29 A nd as He was praying, the appearance of His countenance became altered (different), and His raiment became dazzling white '> flashing with the brilliance of lightning].
Mientras oraba, la apariencia de su rostro cambió y su vestido se volvió blanco y resplandeciente.
30 A nd behold, two men were conversing with Him—Moses and Elijah,
Y dos varones hablaban con él, los cuales eran Moisés y Elías.
31 W ho appeared in splendor and majesty and brightness and were speaking of His exit, which He was about to bring to realization at Jerusalem.
Estos aparecieron rodeados de gloria; y hablaban de su partida, que Jesús iba a cumplir en Jerusalén.
32 N ow Peter and those with him were weighed down with sleep, but when they fully awoke, they saw His glory (splendor and majesty and brightness) and the two men who stood with Him.
Pedro y los que lo acompañaban estaban rendidos de sueño; pero, permaneciendo despiertos, vieron la gloria de Jesús y a los dos varones que estaban con él.
33 A nd it occurred as the men were parting from Him that Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is delightful and good that we are here; and let us construct three booths or huts—one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah! not noticing or knowing what he was saying.
Y sucedió que, mientras estos se alejaban de él, Pedro dijo a Jesús: —Maestro, bueno es para nosotros estar aquí. Hagamos tres enramadas, una para ti, una para Moisés y una para Elías. Pero no sabía lo que decía.
34 B ut even as he was saying this, a cloud came and began to overshadow them, and they were seized with alarm and struck with fear as they entered into the cloud.
Mientras él decía esto, vino una nube que los cubrió; y tuvieron temor al entrar en la nube.
35 T hen there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is My Son, My Chosen One or My Beloved; listen to and yield to and obey Him!
Y vino una voz desde la nube, que decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado; a él oíd.»
36 A nd when the voice had died away, Jesus was found there alone. And they kept still, and told no one at that time any of these things that they had seen.
Cuando cesó la voz, Jesús se encontraba solo. Ellos callaron, y por aquellos días no dijeron nada a nadie de lo que habían visto. Jesús sana a un muchacho endemoniado
37 N ow it occurred the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him.
Al día siguiente, cuando descendieron del monte, una gran multitud les salió al encuentro.
38 A nd behold, a man from the crowd shouted out, Master, I implore You to look at my son, for he is my only child;
Y un hombre de la multitud clamó diciendo: —Maestro, te ruego que veas a mi hijo, pues es el único que tengo;
39 A nd behold, a spirit seizes him and suddenly he cries out; it convulses him so that he foams at the mouth; and he is sorely shattered, and it will scarcely leave him.
y sucede que un espíritu lo toma y, de repente, lo hace gritar, lo sacude con violencia, lo hace echar espuma y, estropeándolo, a duras penas se aparta de él.
40 A nd I implored Your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.
Rogué a tus discípulos que lo echaran fuera, pero no pudieron.
41 J esus answered, O unbelieving and without trust in God, a perverse ( wayward, crooked and warped) generation! Until when and how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.
Respondiendo Jesús, dijo: —¡Generación incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo he de estar con vosotros y os he de soportar? Trae acá a tu hijo.
42 A nd even while he was coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him. But Jesus censured and severely rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the child and restored him to his father.
Mientras se acercaba el muchacho, el demonio lo derribó y lo sacudió con violencia; pero Jesús reprendió al espíritu impuro, sanó al muchacho y se lo devolvió a su padre.
43 A nd all were astounded at the evidence of God’s mighty power and His majesty and magnificence. But they were all marveling at everything Jesus was doing, He said to His disciples,
Y todos se admiraban de la grandeza de Dios. Jesús anuncia por segunda vez su muerte Estando todos maravillados de todas las cosas que hacía, dijo a sus discípulos:
44 L et these words sink into your ears: the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men '> whose conduct is opposed to God].
—Haced que os penetren bien en los oídos estas palabras, porque acontecerá que el Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de hombres.
45 H owever, they did not comprehend this saying; and it was kept hidden from them, so that they should not grasp it and understand, and they were afraid to ask Him about the statement.
Pero ellos no entendían estas palabras, pues les estaban veladas para que no las entendieran; y temían preguntarle sobre esas palabras. ¿Quién es el mayor?
46 B ut a controversy arose among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
Entonces entraron en discusión sobre quién de ellos sería el mayor.
47 B ut Jesus, as He perceived the thoughts of their hearts, took a little child and put him at His side
Jesús, percibiendo los pensamientos de sus corazones, tomó a un niño, lo puso junto a sí
48 A nd told them, Whoever receives and accepts and welcomes this child in My name and for My sake receives and accepts and welcomes Me; and whoever so receives Me so also receives Him Who sent Me. For he who is least and lowliest among you all—he is great.
y les dijo: —Cualquiera que reciba a este niño en mi nombre, a mí me recibe; y cualquiera que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió, porque el que es más pequeño entre todos vosotros, ése es el más grande. El que no está contra nosotros, por nosotros está
49 J ohn said, Master, we saw a man driving out demons in Your name and we commanded him to stop it, for he does not follow along with us.
Entonces respondiendo Juan, dijo: —Maestro, hemos visto a uno que echaba fuera demonios en tu nombre; y se lo prohibimos, porque no sigue con nosotros.
50 B ut Jesus told him, Do not forbid; for whoever is not against you is for you.
Jesús le dijo: —No se lo prohibáis, porque el que no está contra nosotros, por nosotros está. Jesús reprende a Jacobo y a Juan
51 N ow when the time was almost come for Jesus to be received up, He steadfastly and determinedly set His face to go to Jerusalem.
Cuando se cumplió el tiempo en que él había de ser recibido arriba, afirmó su rostro para ir a Jerusalén.
52 A nd He sent messengers before Him; and they reached and entered a Samaritan village to make ready for Him;
Y envió mensajeros delante de él, los cuales fueron y entraron en una aldea de los samaritanos para hacerle preparativos.
53 B ut would not welcome or receive or accept Him, because His face was going to Jerusalem.
Pero no lo recibieron, porque su intención era ir a Jerusalén.
54 A nd when His disciples James and John observed this, they said, Lord, do You wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did ?
Al ver esto, Jacobo y Juan, sus discípulos, le dijeron: —Señor, ¿quieres que mandemos que descienda fuego del cielo, como hizo Elías, y los consuma?
55 B ut He turned and rebuked and severely censured them. He said, You do not know of what sort of spirit you are,
Entonces, volviéndose él, los reprendió diciendo: —Vosotros no sabéis de qué espíritu sois,
56 F or the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they journeyed on to another village.
porque el Hijo del hombre no ha venido para perder las almas de los hombres, sino para salvarlas. Y se fueron a otra aldea. Los que querían seguir a Jesús
57 A nd it occurred that as they were going along the road, a man said to Him, Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.
Yendo por el camino, uno le dijo: —Señor, te seguiré adondequiera que vayas.
58 A nd Jesus told him, Foxes have lurking holes and the birds of the air have roosts and nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.
Jesús le dijo: —Las zorras tienen guaridas y las aves de los cielos nidos, pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene donde recostar la cabeza.
59 A nd He said to another, Become My disciple, side with My party, and accompany Me! But he replied, Lord, permit me first to go and bury ( await the death of) my father.
Y dijo a otro: —Sígueme. Él le respondió: —Señor, déjame que primero vaya y entierre a mi padre.
60 B ut Jesus said to him, Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and publish abroad throughout all regions the kingdom of God.
Jesús le dijo: —Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos; pero tú vete a anunciar el reino de Dios.
61 A nother also said, I will follow You, Lord, and become Your disciple and side with Your party; but let me first say good-bye to those at my home.
Entonces también dijo otro: —Te seguiré, Señor; pero déjame que me despida primero de los que están en mi casa.
62 J esus said to him, No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.
Jesús le contestó: —Ninguno que, habiendo puesto su mano en el arado, mira hacia atrás es apto para el reino de Dios.
