1 T hen the fifth angel blew trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth; and to the angel was given the key of the shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit).

El quinto ángel tocó la trompeta, y vi una estrella que cayó del cielo a la tierra. Y se le dio la llave del pozo del abismo.

2 H e opened the long shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit), and smoke like the smoke of a huge furnace puffed out of the long shaft, so that the sun and the atmosphere were darkened by the smoke from the long shaft.

Abrió el pozo del abismo, y del pozo subió humo como humo de un gran horno, y el sol y el aire se oscurecieron por el humo del pozo.

3 T hen out of the smoke locusts came forth on the earth, and such power was granted them as the power the earth’s scorpions have.

Del humo salieron langostas sobre la tierra, y se les dio poder, como el poder que tienen los escorpiones de la tierra.

4 T hey were told not to injure the herbage of the earth nor any green thing nor any tree, but only such human beings as do not have the seal (mark) of God on their foreheads.

Se les mandó que no dañaran la hierba de la tierra, ni cosa verde alguna ni ningún árbol, sino solamente a los hombres que no tuvieran el sello de Dios en sus frentes.

5 T hey were not permitted to kill them, but to torment (distress, vex) them for five months; and the pain caused them was like the torture of a scorpion when it stings a person.

Pero no se les permitió que los mataran, sino que los atormentaran cinco meses; y su tormento era como el tormento del escorpión cuando hiere al hombre.

6 A nd in those days people will seek death and will not find it; and they will yearn to die, but death evades and flees from them.

En aquellos días los hombres buscarán la muerte, pero no la hallarán; ansiarán morir, pero la muerte huirá de ellos.

7 T he locusts resembled horses equipped for battle. On their heads was something like golden crowns. Their faces resembled the faces of people.

El aspecto de las langostas era semejante a caballos preparados para la guerra; en las cabezas tenían como coronas de oro, sus caras eran como caras humanas,

8 T hey had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.

tenían cabello como cabello de mujer y sus dientes eran como de leones;

9 T heir breastplates (scales) resembled breastplates made of iron, and the noise made by their wings was like the roar of a vast number of horse-drawn chariots going at full speed into battle.

tenían corazas como corazas de hierro y el ruido de sus alas era como el estruendo de muchos carros de caballos corriendo a la batalla;

10 T hey have tails like scorpions, and they have stings, and in their tails lies their ability to hurt men for five months.

tenían colas como de escorpiones, y también aguijones, y en sus colas tenían poder para dañar a los hombres durante cinco meses.

11 O ver them as king they have the angel of the Abyss (of the bottomless pit). In Hebrew his name is Abaddon, but in Greek he is called Apollyon.

Sobre ellos tienen como rey al ángel del abismo, cuyo nombre en hebreo es Abadón, y en griego, Apolión.

12 T he first woe (calamity) has passed; behold, two others are yet to follow.

El primer ay pasó; pero vienen aún dos ayes después de esto.

13 T hen the sixth angel blew trumpet, and from the four horns of the golden altar which stands before God I heard a solitary voice,

El sexto ángel tocó la trompeta, y oí una voz de entre los cuatro cuernos del altar de oro que estaba delante de Dios,

14 S aying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Liberate the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.

la cual decía al sexto ángel que tenía la trompeta: «¡Desata a los cuatro ángeles que están atados junto al gran río Éufrates!»

15 S o the four angels who had been in readiness for that hour in the appointed day, month, and year were liberated to destroy a third of mankind.

Y fueron desatados los cuatro ángeles que estaban preparados para la hora, día, mes y año, a fin de matar la tercera parte de los hombres.

16 T he number of their troops of cavalry was twice ten thousand times ten thousand (200, 000, 000); I heard what their number was.

Y el número de los ejércitos de los jinetes era de doscientos millones. Yo oí su número.

17 A nd in vision the horses and their riders appeared to me like this: the riders wore breastplates the color of fiery red and sapphire blue and sulphur (brimstone) yellow. The heads of the horses looked like lions’ heads, and from their mouths there poured fire and smoke and sulphur (brimstone).

Así vi en visión los caballos y sus jinetes, que tenían corazas de fuego, zafiro y azufre. Las cabezas de los caballos eran como cabezas de leones, y de sus bocas salía fuego, humo y azufre.

18 A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues—by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur (brimstone) that poured from the mouths of the horses.

Por estas tres plagas fue muerta la tercera parte de los hombres: por el fuego, el humo y el azufre que salía de sus bocas,

19 F or the power of the horses to do harm is in their mouths and also in their tails. Their tails are like serpents, for they have heads, and it is by means of them that they wound people.

pues el poder de los caballos estaba en sus bocas y en sus colas, porque sus colas, semejantes a serpientes, tenían cabezas y con ellas dañan.

20 A nd the rest of humanity who were not killed by these plagues even then did not repent of the works of their hands, so as to cease paying homage to the demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor move.

Los demás hombres, los que no fueron muertos con estas plagas, ni aun así se arrepintieron de las obras de sus manos ni dejaron de adorar a los demonios y a las imágenes de oro, plata, bronce, piedra y madera, las cuales no pueden ver ni oír ni andar.

21 A nd they did not repent of their murders or their practice of magic (sorceries) or their sexual vice or their thefts.

No se arrepintieron de sus homicidios, ni de sus hechicerías, ni de su fornicación, ni de sus robos.
