1 A nd in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

Aconteció en el año undécimo, en el mes tercero, el día primero del mes, que vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2 S on of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his multitude: Whom are you like in your greatness?

«Hijo de hombre, di al faraón, rey de Egipto, y a su pueblo: »“¿A quién te comparaste en tu grandeza?

3 B ehold, Assyria, a cedar in Lebanon, with fair branches and with forestlike shade and of high stature, with its top among the thick boughs.

He aquí era el asirio un cedro en el Líbano, de hermosas ramas, frondoso ramaje y gran altura: su copa llegaba hasta las nubes.

4 T he waters nourished it; the deep made it grow tall; its rivers ran round about its planting, sending out its streams to all the trees of the forest.

Las aguas lo hicieron crecer, lo encumbró el abismo; sus ríos corrían alrededor de su pie, y a todos los árboles del campo enviaba sus corrientes.

5 T herefore it towered higher than all the trees of the forest; its boughs were multiplied and its branches became long, because there was much water when they were shot forth.

Por tanto, se encumbró su altura sobre todos los árboles del campo y se multiplicaron sus ramas, y a causa de las muchas aguas se extendió el ramaje que había echado.

6 A ll the birds of the heavens made their nests in its boughs, and under its branches all the wild beasts of the field brought forth their young and under its shadow dwelt all of the great nations.

En sus ramas hacían nido todas las aves del cielo, debajo de su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo y a su sombra habitaban muchas naciones.

7 T hus was it beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was by many and great waters.

Se hizo, pues, hermoso en su grandeza con la extensión de sus ramas, porque su raíz estaba junto a aguas abundantes.

8 T he cedars in the garden of God could not hide or rival it; the cypress trees did not have boughs like it and the plane trees did not have branches like it, nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty.

Los cedros no lo superaron en el huerto de Dios; los cipreses no fueron semejantes a sus ramas ni los castaños fueron semejantes a su ramaje; ningún árbol en el huerto de Dios fue semejante a él en hermosura.

9 I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied it.

Lo hice hermoso con la multitud de sus ramas, y todos los árboles del Edén, que estaban en el huerto de Dios, tuvieron de él envidia.

10 T herefore thus said the Lord God: Because it is exalted in stature and has set its top among the thick boughs and the clouds, and its heart is proud of its height,

»”Por tanto, así dijo Jehová, el Señor: Ya que por ser encumbrado en altura y haber levantado su copa entre las nubes, su corazón se elevó con su altura,

11 I will even deliver it into the hand of a mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with it. I have driven it out for its wickedness and lawlessness.

yo lo entregaré en manos del poderoso de las naciones, que de cierto lo tratará según su maldad. Yo lo he desechado.

12 A nd strangers, the most terrible of the nations, will cut it off and leave it; upon the mountains and in all the valleys its branches will fall and its boughs will lie broken by all the watercourses of the land, and all the peoples of the earth will go down out of its shade and leave it.

Lo destruirán extranjeros, y los poderosos de las naciones lo derribarán. Sus ramas caerán sobre los montes y por todos los valles; por todos los arroyos de la tierra será quebrado su ramaje. Todos los pueblos de la tierra se irán de su sombra, y lo abandonarán.

13 U pon its ruins all the birds of the heavens will dwell, and all the wild beasts of the field will be upon branches.

Sobre su tronco caído habitarán todas las aves del cielo, y sobre sus ramas estarán todas las bestias del campo,

14 A ll this is so that none of the trees by the waters may exalt themselves because of their height or shoot up their top among the thick boughs and the clouds, and that none of their mighty ones should stand upon themselves for their height, all that drink water. For they are all delivered over to death, to the lower world, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit (the grave).

para que no se exalten en su altura todos los árboles que crecen junto a las aguas, ni levanten su copa entre la espesura, ni confíen en su altura todos los que beben aguas; porque todos están destinados a la muerte, a lo profundo de la tierra, entre los hijos de los hombres, junto con los que descienden a la fosa.

15 T hus says the Lord God: When goes down to Sheol (the place of the dead), I will cause a mourning; I will cover the deep for it and I will restrain its floods, and the many waters will be stayed; and I will cause Lebanon to be in black gloom and to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field, dismayed, will faint because of it.

»”Así ha dicho Jehová, el Señor: El día que descendió al seol, hice guardar luto, y que se cubriera por él el abismo. Detuve sus ríos, y las muchas aguas fueron detenidas. Por él cubrí de tinieblas el Líbano, y todos los árboles del campo se desmayaron.

16 I will make the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I cast it down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit, and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, will be comforted in the netherworld.

Con el estruendo de su caída hice temblar a las naciones, cuando las hice descender al seol con todos los que descienden a la sepultura. Y todos los árboles escogidos del Edén, los mejores del Líbano, todos los que beben aguas, fueron consolados en lo profundo de la tierra.

17 T hey also shall go down into Sheol with it to those who were slain by the sword—yes, those who were its arm, who dwelt under its shadow in the midst of the nations.

También ellos descendieron con él al seol, con los muertos a espada, los que fueron su brazo, los que estuvieron a su sombra en medio de las naciones.

18 T o whom among the trees of Eden are you thus like in glory and in greatness? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the netherworld. You shall lie among the uncircumcised heathen with those who are slain by the sword. This is how it shall be with Pharaoh and all the multitude of his strength, his tumult, and his store, says the Lord God.

»”¿A quién te has comparado así en gloria y en grandeza entre los árboles del Edén? Pues derribado serás con los árboles del Edén en lo profundo de la tierra; entre los incircuncisos yacerás, con los muertos a espada. Éste es el faraón y todo su pueblo, dice Jehová, el Señor.”»
