1 S ome time after these things occurred, someone told Joseph, Behold, your father is sick. And he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Sucedió después de estas cosas que dijeron a José: —Tu padre está enfermo. Entonces él tomó consigo a sus dos hijos, Manasés y Efraín.

2 W hen Jacob was told, Your son Joseph has come to you, Israel collected his strength and sat up on the bed.

Y se le hizo saber a Jacob, diciendo: —Aquí está tu hijo José, que viene a ti. Haciendo un esfuerzo, Israel se sentó sobre la cama

3 A nd Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me

y dijo a José: —El Dios omnipotente se me apareció en Luz, en la tierra de Canaán, me bendijo

4 A nd said to me, Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make you a multitude of people and will give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.

y me dijo: “Yo te haré crecer, te multiplicaré y te pondré por estirpe de naciones; y daré esta tierra a tu descendencia después de ti por heredad perpetua.”

5 A nd now your two sons,, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you in Egypt, are mine. as Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine.

Ahora bien, tus dos hijos, Efraín y Manasés, que te nacieron en la tierra de Egipto antes de venir a reunirme contigo a la tierra de Egipto, son míos; al igual que Rubén y Simeón, serán míos.

6 B ut other sons who may be born after them shall be your own; and they shall be called after the names of these brothers and reckoned as belonging to them into their inheritance.

Los que después de ellos has engendrado, serán tuyos; por el nombre de sus hermanos serán llamados en sus heredades.

7 A nd as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died at my side in the land of Canaan on the way, when yet there was but a little way to come to Ephrath; and I buried her there on the way to Ephrath, that is, Bethlehem.

Cuando yo venía de Padan-aram se me murió Raquel en la tierra de Canaán, en el camino, como media legua antes de llegar a Efrata; y la sepulté allí, en el camino de Efrata, que es Belén.

8 W hen Israel saw Joseph’s sons, he said, Who are these?

Vio entonces Israel a los hijos de José, y dijo: —¿Quiénes son estos?

9 A nd Joseph said to his father, They are my sons, whom God has given me in this place. And he said, Bring them to me, I pray you, that I may bless them.

—Son mis hijos, los que Dios me ha dado aquí —respondió José a su padre. —Acércalos ahora a mí, y los bendeciré —dijo Israel.

10 N ow Israel’s eyes were dim from age, so that he could not see. And Joseph brought them near to him, and he kissed and embraced them.

Los ojos de Israel estaban tan debilitados por la vejez, que no podía ver. Los hizo, pues, acercarse a él, y él los besó y los abrazó.

11 I srael said to Joseph, I had not thought that I would see your face, but see, God has shown me your offspring also.

Y dijo Israel a José: —No pensaba yo ver más tu rostro, y Dios me ha dejado ver también a tu descendencia.

12 T hen Joseph took from and he bowed with his face to the earth.

Entonces José los sacó de entre sus rodillas y se inclinó a tierra.

13 T hen Joseph took both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right, and brought them close to him.

Los tomó José a ambos, Efraín a su derecha, a la izquierda de Israel, y Manasés a su izquierda, a la derecha de Israel; y los acercó a él.

14 A nd Israel reached out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands intentionally, for Manasseh was the firstborn.

Israel extendió su mano derecha y la puso sobre la cabeza de Efraín, que era el menor, y su mano izquierda sobre la cabeza de Manasés, colocando así sus manos adrede, aunque Manasés era el primogénito.

15 T hen blessed Joseph and said, God, before Whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac lived and walked habitually, God, Who has fed me from the time I came into being until this day,

Y bendijo a José, diciendo: «El Dios en cuya presencia anduvieron mis padres Abraham e Isaac, el Dios que me mantiene desde que yo soy hasta este día,

16 T he redeeming Angel Who has redeemed me continually from every evil, bless the lads! And let my name be perpetuated in them, and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them become a multitude in the midst of the earth.

el Ángel que me liberta de todo mal, bendiga a estos jóvenes. Sea perpetuado en ellos mi nombre y el nombre de mis padres Abraham e Isaac, y multiplíquense y crezcan en medio de la tierra.»

17 W hen Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him; and he held up his father’s hand to move it to Manasseh’s head.

Al ver José que su padre ponía la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín, se sintió disgustado; y tomó la mano de su padre para cambiarla de la cabeza de Efraín a la cabeza de Manasés.

18 A nd Joseph said, Not so, my father, for this is the firstborn; put your right hand upon his head.

Y dijo José a su padre: —Así no, padre mío, porque éste es el primogénito; pon tu mano derecha sobre su cabeza.

19 B ut his father refused and said, I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people and shall be great; but his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations.

Pero su padre no quiso hacerlo, y le respondió: —Lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé; también él llegará a ser un pueblo, y será también grande; pero su hermano menor será más grande que él, y su descendencia formará multitud de naciones.

20 A nd he blessed them that day, saying, By you shall Israel bless, saying, May God make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh. And he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

Y los bendijo aquel día, diciendo: —Que con vuestro nombre se bendiga en Israel, y se diga: “Hágate Dios como a Efraín y como a Manasés.” Y puso a Efraín antes de Manasés.

21 A nd Israel said to Joseph, Behold, I die, but God will be with you and bring you again to the land of your fathers.

Luego dijo Israel a José: —Yo muero; pero Dios estará con vosotros y os hará volver a la tierra de vuestros padres.

22 M oreover, I have given to you one portion more than any of your brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow.

A ti te he dado una parte más que a tus hermanos, la cual tomé al amorreo con mi espada y con mi arco.
