1 T he word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Iată cuvîntul Domnului, spus proorocului Ieremia cu privire la Filisteni, înainte ca Faraon să bată Gaza.

2 T hus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north and shall become an overflowing stream and shall overflow the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell in it. Then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.

Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: Iată, se ridică nişte ape dela miază noapte, cresc ca un rîu ieşit din matcă; îneacă ţara şi ce cuprinde ea, cetatea şi locuitorii ei. Ţipă oamenii, şi se bocesc toţi locuitorii ţării.

pentrucă vine ziua cînd vor fi nimiciţi toţi Filistenii, şi stîrpiţi toţi ceice slujeau ca ajutoare Tirului şi Sidonului. Căci Domnul va nimici pe Filisteni, rămăşiţele ostrovului Caftor.

Dar cum ar putea să se odihnească? Cînd Domnul doar îi porunceşte, şi o îndreaptă împotriva Ascalonului şi coastei mării.``
