3 A s I urged you when I was on my way to Macedonia, stay on where you are at Ephesus in order that you may warn and admonish and charge certain individuals not to teach any different doctrine,

Dupăcum te-am rugat la plecarea mea în Macedonia, să rămîi în Efes, ca să porunceşti unora să nu înveţe pe alţii altă învăţătură,

4 N or to give importance to or occupy themselves with legends (fables, myths) and endless genealogies, which foster and promote useless speculations and questionings rather than acceptance in faith of God’s administration and the divine training that is in faith ( in that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence)—

şi să nu se ţină de basme şi de înşirări de neamuri fără sfîrşit, cari dau naştere mai mult la certuri de vorbe, decît fac să înainteze lucrul lui Dumnezeu prin credinţă, aşa fac şi acum.

5 W hereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.

Ţinta poruncii este dragostea, care vine dintr'o inimă curată, dintr'un cuget bun, şi dintr'o credinţă neprefăcută.

6 B ut certain individuals have missed the mark on this very matter have wandered away into vain arguments and discussions and purposeless talk.

Unii, fiindcă s'au depărtat de aceste lucruri, au rătăcit şi s'au apucat de flecării.

7 T hey are ambitious to be doctors of the Law (teachers of the Mosaic ritual), but they have no understanding either of the words and terms they use or of the subjects about which they make dogmatic assertions.

Ei vor să fie învăţători ai Legii, şi nu ştiu nici măcar ce spun, nici ce urmăresc.

8 N ow we recognize and know that the Law is good if anyone uses it lawfully,

Noi ştim că Legea este bună dacă cineva o întrebuinţează bine,

9 K nowing and understanding this: that the Law is not enacted for the righteous (the upright and just, who are in right standing with God), but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinful, for the irreverent and profane, for those who strike and beat and murder fathers and strike and beat and murder mothers, for manslayers,

căci ştim că Legea nu este făcută pentru cel neprihănit, ci pentru cei fărădelege şi nesupuşi, pentru cei nelegiuiţi şi păcătoşi, pentru cei fără evlavie, necuraţi, pentru ucigătorii de tată şi ucigătorii de mamă, pentru ucigătorii de oameni,

10 i mpure and immoral persons, those who abuse themselves with men, kidnapers, liars, perjurers—and whatever else is opposed to wholesome teaching and sound doctrine

pentru curvari, pentru sodomiţi, pentru vînzătorii de oameni, pentru cei mincinoşi, pentru cei ce jură strîmb, şi pentru orice este împotriva învăţăturii sănătoase: -

11 A s laid down by the glorious Gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

potrivit cu Evanghelia slavei fericitului Dumnezeu care mi -a fost încredinţată mie.

12 I give thanks to Him Who has granted me strength and made me able, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He has judged and counted me faithful and trustworthy, appointing me to the ministry.

Mulţămesc lui Hristos Isus, Domnul nostru, care m'a întărit, că m'a socotit vrednic de încredere, şi m'a pus în slujba Lui,

13 T hough I formerly blasphemed and persecuted and was shamefully and outrageously and aggressively insulting, nevertheless, I obtained mercy because I had acted out of ignorance in unbelief.

măcarcă mai înainte eram un hulitor, un prigonitor şi batjocoritor. Dar am căpătat îndurare, pentrucă lucram din neştiinţă, în necredinţă!

14 A nd the grace (unmerited favor and blessing) of our Lord flowed out superabundantly and beyond measure for me, accompanied by faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

Şi harul Domnului nostru s'a înmulţit peste măsură de mult împreună cu credinţa şi cu dragostea care este în Hristos Isus.

15 T he saying is sure and true and worthy of full and universal acceptance, that Christ Jesus (the Messiah) came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost.

O, adevărat şi cu totul vrednic de primit este cuvîntul, care zice:,, Hristos Isus a venit în lume ca să mîntuiască pe cei păcătoşi``, dintre cari cel dintîi sînt eu.

16 B ut I obtained mercy for the reason that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might show forth and display all His perfect long-suffering and patience for an example to those who would thereafter believe on Him for eternal life.

Dar am căpătat îndurare, pentruca Isus Hristos să-Şi arate în mine, cel dintîi, toată îndelunga Lui răbdare, ca o pildă celor ce ar crede în El, în urmă, ca să capete viaţa vecinică.

17 N ow to the King of eternity, incorruptible and immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever (to the ages of ages). Amen (so be it).

A Împăratului veciniciilor, a nemuritorului, nevăzutului şi singurului Dumnezeu, să fie cinstea şi slava în vecii vecilor! Amin.

18 T his charge and admonition I commit in trust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with prophetic intimations which I formerly received concerning you, so that inspired and aided by them you may wage the good warfare,

Porunca pe care ţi -o dau, fiule Timotei, după proorociile făcute mai înainte despre tine, este ca, prin ele să te lupţi lupta cea bună,

19 H olding fast to faith ( that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence) and having a good (clear) conscience. By rejecting and thrusting from them, some individuals have made shipwreck of their faith.

şi să păstrezi credinţa şi un cuget curat, pe care unii l-au pierdut, şi au căzut din credinţă.

20 A mong them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan in order that they may be disciplined not to blaspheme.

Din numărul lor sînt Imeneu şi Alexandru, pe cari i-am dat pe mîna Satanei, ca să se înveţe să nu hulească.
