1 S o Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.

Avram s'a suit din Egipt în ţara dela meazăzi, el, nevastă-sa, şi tot ce avea, împreună cu Lot.

2 N ow Abram was extremely rich in livestock and in silver and in gold.

Avram era foarte bogat în vite, în argint, şi în aur.

3 A nd he journeyed on from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

Din ţara dela meazăzi s'a îndreptat şi a mers pînă la Betel, pînă la locul unde fusese cortul lui la început, între Betel şi Ai,

4 W here he had built an altar at first; and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

în locul unde era altarul, pe care -l făcuse mai înainte. Şi acolo, Avram a chemat Numele Domnului.

5 B ut Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.

Lot, care călătorea împreună cu Avram, avea şi el oi, boi şi corturi.

6 N ow the land was not able to nourish and support them so they could dwell together, for their possessions were too great for them to live together.

Şi ţinutul acela nu -i încăpea să locuiască împreună; căci averile lor erau aşa de mari, încît nu puteau să locuiască împreună.

7 A nd there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.

S'a iscat o ceartă între păzitorii vitelor lui Avram şi păzitorii vitelor lui Lot. Cananiţii şi Feresiţii locuiau atunci în ţară.

8 S o Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I beg of you, between you and me, or between your herdsmen and my herdsmen, for we are relatives.

Avram a zis lui Lot:,, Te rog, să nu fie ceartă între mine şi tine, şi între păzitorii mei şi păzitorii tăi, căci sîntem fraţi.

9 I s not the whole land before you? Separate yourself, I beg of you, from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you choose the right hand, then I will go to the left.

Nu -i oare toată ţara înaintea ta? Mai bine desparte-te de mine: dacă apuci tu la stînga, eu voi apuca la dreapta; dacă apuci tu la dreapta, eu voi apuca la stînga.``

10 A nd Lot looked and saw that everywhere the Jordan Valley was well watered. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

Lot şi -a ridicat ochii, şi a văzut că toată Cîmpia Iordanului era bine udată în întregime. Înainte de a nimici Domnul Sodoma şi Gomora, pînă la Ţoar, era ca o grădină a Domnului, ca ţara Egiptului.

11 T hen Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley and traveled east. So they separated.

Lot şi -a ales toată Cîmpia Iordanului, şi a mers spre răsărit. Astfel s'au despărţit ei unul de altul.

12 A bram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom and dwelt there.

Avram a locuit în ţara Canaan, iar Lot a locuit în cetăţile din Cîmpie, şi şi -a întins corturile pînă la Sodoma.

13 B ut the men of Sodom were wicked and exceedingly great sinners against the Lord.

Oamenii din Sodoma erau răi, şi afară din cale de păcătoşi împotriva Domnului.

14 T he Lord said to Abram after Lot had left him, Lift up now your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

Domnul a zis lui Avram, după ce s'a despărţit Lot de el:,, Ridică-ţi ochii, şi, din locul în care eşti, priveşte spre mează noapte şi spre mează zi, spre răsărit şi spre apus;

15 F or all the land which you see I will give to you and to your posterity forever.

căci toată ţara pe care o vezi, ţi -o da ţie şi seminţei tale în veac.

16 A nd I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth, so that if a man could count the dust of the earth, then could your descendants also be counted.

Îţi voi face sămînţa ca pulberea pămîntului de mare; aşa că, dacă poate număra cineva pulberea pămîntului, şi sămînţa ta va putea să fie numărată.

17 A rise, walk through the land, the length of it and the breadth of it, for I will give it to you.

Scoală-te, străbate ţara în lung şi în lat; căci ţie ţi -o voi da``.

18 T hen Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt among the oaks or terebinths of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and built there an altar to the Lord.

Avram şi -a ridicat corturile, şi a venit de a locuit lîngă stejarii lui Mamre, cari sînt lîngă Hebron. Şi acolo a zidit un altar Domnului.
