1 I n the first year of Darius son of Ahasuerus, of the offspring of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans—

În anul dintîi al lui Dariu, fiul lui Ahaşveros, din neamul Mezilor, care ajunsese împărat peste împărăţia Haldeilor,

2 I n the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood from the books the number of years which, according to the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet, must pass by before the desolations pronounced on Jerusalem should end; and it was seventy years.

în anul dintîi al domniei lui, eu, Daniel, am văzut din cărţi că trebuiau să treacă şaptezeci de ani pentru dărîmăturile Ierusalimului, după numărul anilor, despre cari vorbise Domnul către proorocul Ieremia.

3 A nd I set my face to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes;

Şi mi-am întors faţa spre Domnul Dumnezeu, ca să -L caut cu rugăciune şi cereri, postind în sac şi cenuşă.

4 A nd I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, Who keeps covenant, mercy, and loving-kindness with those who love Him and keep His commandments,

M'am rugat Domnului, Dumnezeului meu şi I-am făcut următoarea mărturisire:,, Doamne, Dumnezeule mare şi înfricoşate, Tu, care ţii legămîntul şi dai îndurare celorce Te iubesc şi păzesc poruncile Tale!

5 W e have sinned and dealt perversely and done wickedly and have rebelled, turning aside from Your commandments and ordinances.

Noi am păcătuit, am săvîrşit nelegiuire, am fost răi şi îndărătnici, ne-am abătut dela poruncile şi orînduirile Tale.

6 N either have we listened to and heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings, our princes and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

N'am ascultat pe robii Tăi proorocii, cari au vorbit, în Numele Tău, împăraţilor noştri, căpeteniilor noastre, părinţilor noştri, şi către tot poporul ţării.

7 O Lord, righteousness belongs to You, but to us confusion and shame of face, as at this day—to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, to those who are near and those who are far off, through all the countries to which You have driven them because of the trespass which they have committed against You.

Tu, Doamne, eşti drept, iar nouă ni se cuvine astăzi să ni se umple faţa de ruşine, nouă tuturor oamenilor lui Iuda, locuitorilor Ierusalimului şi întregului Israel, fie ei aproape, fie departe, în toate ţările în cari i-ai izgonit, din pricina fărădelegilor de cari s'au făcut vinovaţi faţă de Tine!

8 O Lord, to us belong confusion and shame of face—to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers—because we have sinned against You.

Doamne, nouă ni se cuvine să ni se umple faţa de ruşine, da, nouă, împăraţilor noştri, căpeteniilor noastre, şi părinţilor noştri, pentrucă am păcătuit împotriva Ta!

9 T o the Lord our God belong mercy and loving-kindness and forgiveness, for we have rebelled against Him;

La Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, însă, este îndurarea şi iertarea, căci împotriva Lui ne-am răzvrătit!

10 A nd we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by walking in His laws which He set before us through His servants the prophets.

N'am ascultat glasul Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, ca să urmăm legile Lui pe care ni le pusese înainte prin robii Săi, proorocii;

11 Y es, all Israel has transgressed Your law, even turning aside that they might not obey Your voice. Therefore the curse has been poured out on us and the oath that is written in the Law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against Him.

ci tot Israelul a călcat Legea Ta, şi s'a abătut astfel ca să n'asculte de glasul Tău. De aceea, ne-au şi lovit blestemurile şi jurămintele scrise în Legea lui Moise, robul lui Dumnezeu, pentrucă am păcătuit împotriva lui Dumnezeu.

12 A nd He has carried out intact His words which He threatened against us and against our judges who ruled us, and He has brought upon us a great evil; for under the whole heavens there has not been done before as done against Jerusalem.

El a împlinit astfel cuvintele pe cari le rostise împotriva noastră şi împotriva căpeteniilor noastre, cari ne-au cîrmuit, şi a adus peste noi o mare nenorocire, aşa cum nici odată şi nicăieri supt cer nu s'a mai întîmplat o nenorocire ca aceea care a venit acum asupra Ierusalimului.

13 J ust as it is written in the Law of Moses as to all this evil, so it has come upon us. Yet we have not earnestly begged for forgiveness and entreated the favor of the Lord our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and have understanding and become wise in Your truth.

După cum este scris în Legea lui Moise, toată nenorocirea aceasta a venit peste noi; şi noi n'am rugat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, nu ne-am întors de la nelegiuirile noastre, şi n'am luat aminte la adevărul Tău.

14 T herefore the Lord has kept ready the calamity (evil) and has brought it upon us, for the Lord our God is righteous and rigidly just in all His works which He does; and we have not obeyed His voice.

De aceea şi Domnul a îngrijit ca nenorocirea aceasta să vină peste noi; căci Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, este drept în toate lucrurile pe cari le -a făcut, dar noi n'am ascultat glasul Lui.

15 A nd now, O Lord our God, Who brought Your people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand and secured Yourself renown and a name as at this day, we have sinned, we have done wickedly!

Şi acum, Doamne Dumnezeul nostru, Tu care ai scos pe poporul Tău din ţara Egiptului prin mîna Ta cea puternică, şi Ţi-ai făcut un Nume, aşa cum este şi astăzi: noi am păcătuit..., am săvîrşit nelegiuire.

16 O Lord, according to all Your rightness and justice, I beseech You, let Your anger and Your wrath be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain. Because of our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach and a byword to all who are around about us.

Dar, Doamne, după toată îndurarea Ta, abate mînia şi urgia Ta de la cetatea ta Ierusalimul, dela muntele Tău cel sfînt; căci din pricina păcatelor noastre şi din pricina nelegiuirilor părinţilor noştri este Ierusalimul şi poporul Tău de ocara tuturor celor ce ne înconjoară.

17 N ow therefore, O our God, listen to and heed the prayer of Your servant and his supplications, and for Your own sake cause Your face to shine upon Your sanctuary which is desolate.

Ascultă dar, acum, Dumnezeul nostru, rugăciunea şi cererile robului Tău, şi, pentru dragostea Domnului, fă să strălucească Faţa Ta peste sfîntul Tău locaş pustiit...!

18 O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and look at our desolations and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You for our own righteousness and justice, but for Your great mercy and loving-kindness.

Pleacă urechea, Dumnezeule, şi ascultă! Deschide ochii şi priveşte la dărîmăturile noastre, şi la cetatea peste care este chemat Numele Tău! Căci nu pentru neprihănirea noastră Îţi aducem noi cererile noastre, ci pentru îndurările Tale cele mari.

19 O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, give heed and act! Do not delay, for Your own sake, O my God, because Your city and Your people are called by Your name.

Ascultă, Doamne! Iartă, Doamne! Ia aminte, Doamne! Lucrează şi nu zăbovi, din dragoste pentru Tine, Dumnezeul meu! Căci Numele Tău este chemat peste cetatea Ta şi peste poporul Tău!``

20 W hile I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God—

Pe cînd încă vorbeam eu, mă rugam, îmi mărturiseam păcatul meu şi păcatul poporului meu Israel, şi îmi aduceam cererile înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului meu, pentru muntele cel sfînt al Dumnezeului meu;

21 Y es, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the former vision, being caused to fly swiftly, came near to me and touched me about the time of the evening sacrifice.

pe cînd vorbeam eu încă în rugăciunea mea, a venit repede în zbor iute, omul Gavriil, pe care -l văzusem mai înainte într'o vedenie, şi m'a atins în clipa cînd se aducea jertfa de seară.

22 H e instructed me and made me understand; he talked with me and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give you skill and wisdom and understanding.

El m'a învăţat, a stat de vorbă cu mine, şi mi -a zis:,, Daniele, am venit acum să-ţi luminez mintea.

23 A t the beginning of your prayers, the word went forth, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter and understand the vision.

Cînd ai început tu să te rogi, a ieşit cuvîntul, şi eu vin să ţi -l vestesc; căci tu eşti prea iubit şi scump. Ia aminte dar la cuvîntul acesta, şi înţelege vedenia!

24 S eventy weeks are decreed upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish and put an end to transgression, to seal up and make full the measure of sin, to purge away and make expiation and reconciliation for sin, to bring in everlasting righteousness (permanent moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) to seal up vision and prophecy and prophet, and to anoint a Holy of Holies.

Şaptezeci de săptămîni au fost hotărîte asupra poporului tău şi asupra cetăţii tale celei sfinte, pînă la încetarea fărădelegilor, pînă la ispăşirea păcatelor, pînă la ispăşirea nelegiuirii, pînă la aducerea neprihănirii vecinice, pînă la pecetluirea vedeniei şi proorociei, şi pînă la ungerea Sfîntului sfinţilor.

25 K now therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem until the Anointed One, a Prince, shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it shall be built again with square and moat, but in troublous times.

Să ştii dar, şi să înţelelgi, că dela darea poruncii pentru zidirea din nou a Ierusalimului, pînă la Unsul (Mesia), la Cîrmuitorul, vor trece şapte săptămîni; apoi timp de şasezeci şi două de săptămîni, pieţele şi gropile vor fi zidite din nou, şi anume în vremuri de strîmtorare.

26 A nd after the sixty-two weeks shall the Anointed One be cut off or killed and shall have nothing belonging to Him. And the people of the prince who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood; and even to the end there shall be war, and desolations are decreed.

După aceste şasezeci şi două de săptămîni, unsul va fi stîrpit, şi nu va avea nimic. Poporul unui domn care va veni, va nimici cetatea şi sfîntul Locaş, şi sfîrşitul lui va fi ca printr'un potop; este hotărît că războiul va ţinea pînă la sfîrşit şi împreună cu el şi pustiirile.

27 A nd he shall enter into a strong and firm covenant with the many for one week. And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and offering to cease; and upon the wing or pinnacle of abominations one who makes desolate, until the full determined end is poured out on the desolator.

El va face un legămînt trainic cu mulţi, timp de o săptămînă, dar la jumătatea săptămînii va face să înceteze jertfa şi darul de mîncare, şi pe aripa urîciunilor idoleşti va veni unul care pustieşte, pînă va cădea asupra celui pustiit prăpădul hotărît.``
