1 A nd the people grumbled and deplored their hardships, which was evil in the ears of the Lord, and when the Lord heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the Lord burned among them and devoured those in the outlying parts of the camp.

Poporul a cîrtit în gura mare împotriva Domnului, zicînd că -i merge rău. Cînd a auzit Domnul, S'a mîniat. S'a aprins între ei focul Domnului şi a mistuit o parte din marginea taberii.

2 T he people cried to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire subsided.

Poporul a strigat către Moise. Moise s'a rugat Domnului, şi focul s'a stins.

3 H e called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord burned among them.

Locului aceluia i-au pus numele Tabeera (Ardere), pentrucă se aprinsese focul Domnului printre ei.

4 A nd the mixed multitude among them began to lust greatly, and the Israelites wept again and said, Who will give us meat to eat?

Adunăturii de oameni, cari se aflau în mijlocul lui Israel, i -a venit poftă, ba chiar şi copiii lui Israel au început să plîngă, şi să zică:,, Cine ne va da carne să mîncăm?

5 W e remember the fish we ate freely in Egypt and without cost, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.

Ne aducem aminte de peştii pe cari -i mîncam în Egipt, şi cari nu ne costau nimic, de castraveţi, de pepeni, de praji, de ceapă şi de usturoi.

6 B ut now our soul (our strength) is dried up; there is nothing at all to be seen but this manna.

Acum ni s'a uscat sufletul: nu mai este nimic! Ochii noştri nu văd decît mana aceasta.``

7 T he manna was like coriander seed and its appearance was like that of bdellium.

Mana semăna cu grăuntele de coriandru, şi la vedere era ca bedeliumul.

8 T he people went about and gathered it, and ground it in mills or beat it in mortars, and boiled it in pots, and made cakes of it; and it tasted like cakes baked with fresh oil.

Poporul se risipea şi o strîngea, o măcina la rîşniţă, sau o pisa într'o piuă; o fierbea în oală, şi făcea turte din ea. Mana avea gustul unei turte făcute cu untdelemn.

9 A nd when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell with it.

Cînd cădea roua noaptea în tabără, cădea şi mana.

10 A nd Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families, every man at the door of his tent; and the anger of the Lord blazed hotly, and in the eyes of Moses it was evil.

Moise a auzit pe popor plîngînd, fiecare în familia lui şi la uşa cortului lui. Mînia Domnului s'a aprins cu tărie. Moise s'a întristat,

11 A nd Moses said to the Lord, Why have You dealt ill with Your servants? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people on me?

şi a zis Domnului:,, Pentru ce mîhneşti Tu pe robul Tău, şi pentru ce n'am căpătat eu trecere înaintea Ta, de ai pus peste mine sarcina acestui popor întreg?

12 H ave I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father carries the sucking child, to the land which You swore to their fathers ?

Oare eu am zămislit pe poporul acesta? Oare eu l-am născut, ca să-mi zici:, Poartă -l la sînul tău, cum poartă doica pe copil,` pînă în ţara pe care ai jurat părinţilor lui că i -o vei da?

13 W here should I get meat to give to all these people? For they weep before me and say, Give us meat, that we may eat.

De unde să iau carne, ca să dau la tot poporul acesta? Căci ei plîng la mine, zicînd:, Dă-ne carne ca să mîncăm!`

14 I am not able to carry all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.

Eu singur nu pot să port pe tot poporul acesta, căci este prea greu pentru mine.

15 A nd if this is the way You deal with me, kill me, I pray You, at once, and be granting me a favor and let me not see my wretchedness.

Decît să Te porţi aşa cu mine, mai bine omoară-mă, Te rog, dacă mai am vreo trecere înaintea Ta, ca să nu-mi mai văd nenorocirea.``

16 A nd the Lord said to Moses, Gather for Me seventy men of the elders of Israel whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you.

Domnul a zis lui Moise:,, Adună la Mine şaptezeci de bărbaţi, dintre bătrînii lui Israel, din cei pe cari -i cunoşti ca bătrîni ai poporului şi cu putere asupra lor; adu -i la cortul întîlnirii, şi să se înfăţişeze acolo împreună cu tine.

17 A nd I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and will put It upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not have to bear it yourself alone.

Eu Mă voi pogorî, şi îţi voi vorbi acolo; voi lua din duhul care este peste tine, şi -l voi pune peste ei ca să poarte împreună cu tine sarcina poporului, şi să n'o porţi tu singur.

18 A nd say to the people, Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt. Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat.

Să spui poporului:, Sfinţiţi-vă pentru mîne, şi aveţi să mîncaţi carne, fiindcă aţi plîns în auzul Domnului, şi aţi zis:, Cine ne va da carne să mîncăm? Căci noi o duceam bine în Egipt!` Domnul vă va da carne, şi veţi mînca.

19 Y ou shall not eat one day, or two, or five, or ten, or twenty days,

Aveţi să mîncaţi carne, nu o zi, nici două zile, nici cinci zile, nici zece zile, nici două zeci de zile,

20 B ut a whole month—until it comes out at your nostrils and is disgusting to you—because you have rejected and despised the Lord Who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, Why did we come out of Egypt?

ci o lună întreagă, pînă vă va ieşi pe nări, şi vă veţi scîrbi de ea, pentrucă n'aţi ascultat de Domnul care este în mijlocul vostru, şi pentrucă aţi plîns înaintea Lui, zicînd:, Pentruce am ieşit noi oare din Egipt?.``

21 B ut Moses said, The people among whom I am are 600, 000 footmen, and You have said, I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!

Moise a zis:,,Şase sute de mii de oameni cari merg pe jos alcătuiesc poporul în mijlocul căruia sînt eu, şi Tu zici:, Le voi da carne, şi vor mînca o lună întreagă!`

22 S hall flocks and herds be killed to suffice them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be collected to satisfy them?

Putem tăia oare atîtea oi şi atîţia boi, ca să ajungă? Sau nu cumva avem să prindem toţi peştii mării, ca să le ajungă?``

23 T he Lord said to Moses, Has the Lord’s hand (His ability and power) become short (thwarted and inadequate)? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass for you or not.

Domnul a răspuns lui Moise:,, Nu cumva s'a scurtat oare mîna Domnului? Vei vedea acum dacă ceeace ţi-am spus se va întîmpla sau nu.``

24 S o Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and set them round about the Tent.

Moise a ieşit, şi a spus poporului cuvintele Domnului. A adunat şaptezeci de bărbaţi din bătrînii poporului, şi i -a pus în jurul cortului.

25 A nd the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him and put It upon the seventy elders; and when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. Then they did so no more.

Domnul S'a pogorît în nor, şi a vorbit lui Moise; a luat din duhul care era peste el, şi l -a pus peste cei şaptezeci de bătrîni. Şi de îndată ce duhul s'a aşezat peste ei, au început să proorocească; dar după aceea n'au mai proorocit.

26 B ut there remained two men in the camp named Eldad and Medad. The Spirit rested upon them, and they were of those who were selected and listed, yet they did not go out to the Tent, but they prophesied in the camp.

Doi oameni, unul numit Eldad, şi altul Medad, rămăseseră în tabără, şi duhul s'a aşezat şi peste ei; căci erau dintre cei scrişi, măcar că nu se duseseră la cort. Şi au început să proorocească şi ei în tabără.

27 A nd a young man ran to Moses and said, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.

Un tînăr a alergat şi a dat de ştire lui Moise, zicînd:,, Eldad şi Medad proorocesc în tabără.``

28 J oshua son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, My lord Moses, forbid them!

Şi Iosua, fiul lui Nun, care slujea lui Moise din tinereţa lui, a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis:,, Domnule Moise, opreşte -i.``

29 B ut Moses said to him, Are you envious or jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!

Moise i -a răspuns:,, Eşti gelos pentru mine? Să dea Dumnezeu ca tot poporul Domnului să fie alcătuit din prooroci, şi Domnul să-Şi pună Duhul Lui peste ei!``

30 A nd Moses went back into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

Apoi Moise s'a întors în tabără, el şi bătrînii lui Israel.

31 A nd there went forth a wind from the Lord and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and on the other side, all around the camp, about two cubits above the ground.

Domnul a făcut să sufle de peste mare un vînt, care a adus prepeliţe, şi le -a răspîndit peste tabără cale cam de o zi într'o parte şi cale cam de o zi de cealaltă parte în jurul taberii. Aveau o înălţime de aproape doi coţi dela faţa pămîntului.

32 A nd the people rose all that day and all night and all the next day and caught and gathered the quails. He who gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them out for themselves round about the camp.

În tot timpul zilei aceleia şi toată noaptea, şi toată ziua următoare, poporul s'a sculat şi a strîns prepeliţe; cel ce strînsese cel mai puţin avea zece omeri. Ei şi le-au întins în jurul taberii.

33 W hile the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the Lord was kindled against the people, and the Lord smote them with a very great plague.

Pe cînd carnea era încă în dinţii lor, fără să fie mestecată, Domnul S'a aprins de mînie împotriva poporului; şi Domnul a lovit poporul cu o urgie foarte mare.

34 T hat place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who lusted, whose physical appetite caused them to sin.

Au pus locului aceluia numele Chibrot-Hataava (Mormintele lăcomiei), pentrucă acolo au îngropat pe poporul apucat de poftă.

35 T he Israelites journeyed from Kibroth-hattaavah to Hazeroth, where they remained.

Dela Chibrot-Hataava, poporul a plecat la Haţerot, şi s'a oprit la Haţerot.
