1 A nd Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.

Balaam a zis lui Balac:,, Zideşte-mi aici şapte altare, şi pregăteşte-mi aici şapte viţei şi şapte berbeci.``

2 A nd Balak did as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered on each altar a bull and a ram.

Balac a făcut cum spusese Balaam; şi Balac şi Balaam au adus cîte un viţel şi cîte un berbece pe fiecare altar.

3 A nd Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet me; and whatever He shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.

Balaam a zis lui Balac:,, Stai lîngă arderea ta de tot, şi eu mă voi depărta de ea; poate că Domnul îmi va ieşi înainte; şi ce-mi va descoperi, îţi voi spune.`` Şi s'a dus pe un loc înalt.

4 G od met Balaam, who said to Him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered on each altar a bull and a ram.

Dumnezeu a venit înaintea lui Balaam; şi Balaam I -a zis:,, Am ridicat şapte altare, şi pe fiecare altar am adus cîte un viţel şi cîte un berbece.``

5 A nd the Lord put a speech in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return to Balak and thus shall you speak.

Domnul a pus cuvinte în gura lui Balaam, şi a zis:,,Întoarce-te la Balac, şi aşa să -i vorbeşti.``

6 B alaam returned to Balak, who was standing by his burnt sacrifice, he and all the princes of Moab.

Balaam s'a întors la Balac; şi iată că Balac stătea lîngă arderea lui de tot, el şi toate căpeteniile Moabului.

7 B alaam took up his speech and said: Balak, the king of Moab, has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me; and come, violently denounce Israel.

Balaam şi -a rostit proorocia, şi a zis:,, Balac m'a adus din Aram (Mesopotamia). Împăratul Moabului m'a chemat din munţii Răsăritului, zicînd:, Vino, şi blastămă-mi pe Iacov! Vino, şi defaimă-mi pe Israel!`

8 H ow can I curse those God has not cursed? Or how can I denounce those the Lord has not denounced?

Cum să blastăm eu pe cel ce nu -l blastămă Dumnezeu? Cum să defaim eu pe cel ce nu -l defaimă Domnul?

9 F or from the top of the rocks I see Israel, and from the hills I behold him. Behold, the people shall dwell alone and shall not be reckoned and esteemed among the nations.

Îl văd din vîrful stîncilor, Îl privesc de pe înălţimea dealurilor: Este un popor care locuieşte deoparte, Şi nu face parte dintre neamuri.

10 W ho can count the dust (the descendants) of Jacob and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like theirs!

Cine poate să numere pulberea lui Iacov, Şi să spună numărul unui sfert din Israel? O, de aş muri de moartea celor neprihăniţi, Şi sfîrşitul meu să fie ca al lor!``

11 A nd Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, and here you have blessed them instead!

Balac a zis lui Balaam:,, Ce mi-ai făcut? Te-am luat să blestemi pe vrăjmaşul meu, şi iată că tu -l binecuvintezi!``

12 A nd Balaam answered, Must I not be obedient and speak what the Lord has put in my mouth?

El a răspuns, şi a zis:,, Nu trebuie oare să spun ce-mi pune Domnul în gură?``

13 B alak said to him, Come with me, I implore you, to another place from which you can see them, though you will see only the nearest and not all of them; and curse them for me from there.

Balac i -a zis:,, Vino, te rog, cu mine în alt loc, de unde îl poţi vedea; căci aici nu vezi decît o parte din el, nu -l vezi întreg. Şi de acolo să mi -l blastămi.``

14 S o he took Balaam into the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

L -a dus în cîmpul Ţofim, spre vîrful muntelui Pisga; a zidit şapte altare, şi a adus cîte un viţel şi un berbece pe fiecare altar.

15 B alaam said to Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering while I go to meet the Lord yonder.

Balaam a zis lui Balac:,, Stai aici, lîngă arderea ta de tot, şi eu mă voi duce înaintea lui Dumnezeu.``

16 A nd the Lord met Balaam and put a speech in his mouth, and said, Go again to Balak and speak thus.

Domnul a venit înaintea lui Balaam; i -a pus cuvinte în gură, şi a zis:,,Întoarce-te la Balac, şi aşa să -i vorbeşti.``

17 A nd when he returned to Balak, he was standing beside his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said to him, What has the Lord said?

Balaam s'a întors la el; şi iată că Balac stătea lîngă arderea lui de tot, cu căpeteniile Moabului. Balac i -a zis:,, Ce ţi -a spus Domnul?``

18 B alaam took up his discourse and said: Rise up, Balak, and hear; listen to me, son of Zippor.

Balaam şi -a rostit proorocia, şi a zis:,, Scoală-te, Balac, şi ascultă! Ia aminte la mine, fiul lui Ţipor!

19 G od is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?

Dumnezeu nu este un om ca să mintă, Nici un fiu al omului, ca să -I pară rău. Ce a spus, oare nu va face? Ce a făgăduit oare, nu va împlini?

20 Y ou see, I have received His command to bless Israel. He has blessed, and I cannot reverse or qualify it.

Iată că am primit poruncă să binecuvintez. Da, El a binecuvîntat, şi eu nu pot întoarce.

21 h as not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither has He seen mischief or perverseness in Israel. The Lord their God is with Israel, and the shout of praise to their King is among the people.

El nu vede nici o fărădelege în Iacov, Nu vede nici o răutate în Israel. Domnul, Dumnezeul lui, este cu el, El este Împăratul lui, veselia lui.

22 G od brought them forth out of Egypt; they have as it were the strength of a wild ox.

Dumnezeu i -a scos din Egipt, Tăria Lui este pentru el ca a bivolului.

23 S urely there is no enchantment with or against Jacob, neither is there any divination with or against Israel. now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!

Descîntecul nu poate face nimic împotriva lui Iacov, Nici vrăjitoria împotriva lui Israel; Acum se poate spune despre Iacov şi Israel: Ce lucruri mari a făcut Dumnezeu!

24 B ehold, a people! They rise up as a lioness and lift themselves up as a lion; he shall not lie down until he devours the prey and drinks the blood of the slain.

Da, poporul acesta se scoală ca o leoaică, Şi se ridică întocmai ca un leu; Nu se culcă pînă ce n'a mîncat prada, Şi n'a băut sîngele celor ucişi.``

25 A nd Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all nor bless them at all.

Balac a zis lui Balaam:,, Nu -l blestema, dar măcar nici nu -l binecuvînta!``

26 B ut Balaam answered Balak, Did I not say to you, All the Lord speaks, that I must do?

Balaam a răspuns, şi a zis lui Balac:,, Nu ţi-am spus că voi face tot ce va spune Domnul?``

27 A nd Balak said to Balaam, Come, I implore you; I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God to let you curse them for me from there.

Balac a zis lui Balaam:,, Vino, te rog, te voi duce într'un alt loc; poate că Dumnezeu va găsi cu cale să-mi blestemi de acolo pe poporul acesta!``

28 S o Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, that overlooks Jeshimon.

Balac a dus pe Balaam pe vîrful muntelui Peor, care este cu faţa spre pustie.

29 A nd Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bulls and seven rams.

Balaam a zis lui Balac:,, Zideşte-mi aici şapte altare, şi pregăteşte-mi aici şapte viţei şi şapte berbeci!``

30 A nd Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

Balac a făcut cum zisese Balaam, şi a adus cîte un viţel şi cîte un berbece pe fiecare altar.
