1 E n el año segundo del rey Darío, en el mes sexto, en el primer día del mes, vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo a Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y a Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, diciendo:

In the second year of Darius king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by means of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

2 A sí dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Este pueblo dice: No ha llegado aún el tiempo de que la casa de Jehová sea reedificada.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: These people say, The time is not yet come that the Lord’s house should be rebuilt.

3 E ntonces vino palabra de Jehová por medio del profeta Hageo, diciendo:

Then came the word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet, saying,

4 ¿ Es para vosotros tiempo de habitar en vuestras casas artesonadas mientras esta casa está en ruinas?

Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies in ruins?

5 A hora, pues, así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad bien sobre vuestros caminos.

Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways and set your mind on what has come to you.

6 S embráis mucho, y recogéis poco; coméis, y no os saciáis; bebéis, y no quedáis satisfechos; os vestís, y no os calentáis; y el que trabaja a jornal, recibe su jornal en saco roto.

You have sown much, but you have reaped little; you eat, but you do not have enough; you drink, but you do not have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages has earned them to put them in a bag with holes in it.

7 A sí ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Meditad sobre vuestros caminos.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways (your previous and present conduct) and how you have fared.

8 S ubid al monte, y traed madera, y reedificad la casa; y me complaceré en ella, y seré glorificado, ha dicho Jehová.

Go up to the hill country and bring lumber and rebuild house, and I will take pleasure in it and I will be glorified, says the Lord.

9 E sperabais mucho, y habéis hallado poco, y aun eso que habéis almacenado en casa, yo lo disiparé con un soplo. ¿Por qué?, dice Jehová de los ejércitos. Por cuanto mi casa está desierta, mientras cada uno de vosotros se apresura a edificar su propia casa.

You looked for much, and behold, it came to little; and even when you brought that home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of hosts. Because of My house, which lies waste while you yourselves run each man to his own house.

10 P or eso retuvieron los cielos sobre vosotros la lluvia, y la tierra no dio sus frutos.

Therefore the heavens above you withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its produce.

11 Y llamé la sequía sobre esta tierra, y sobre los montes, sobre el trigo, sobre el vino, sobre el aceite, sobre todo lo que la tierra produce, sobre los hombres y sobre las bestias, y sobre todo el trabajo de vuestras manos.

And I have called for a drought upon the land and the hill country, upon the grain, the fresh wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and cattle, and upon all the toil of hands.

12 Y Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, y Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y todo el resto del pueblo, escucharon la voz de Jehová su Dios, y las palabras del profeta Hageo, conforme le había enviado Jehová su Dios; y temió el pueblo delante de Jehová.

Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, listened to and obeyed the voice of the Lord their God the words of Haggai the prophet, since the Lord their God had sent him, and the people feared and turned to the Lord.

13 E ntonces Hageo, enviado de Jehová, habló por mandato de Jehová al pueblo, diciendo: Yo estoy con vosotros, dice Jehová.

Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, spoke the Lord’s message to the people saying, I am with you, says the Lord.

14 Y despertó Jehová el espíritu de Zorobabel hijo de Sealtiel, gobernador de Judá, y el espíritu de Josué hijo de Josadac, sumo sacerdote, y el espíritu de todo el resto del pueblo; y vinieron y trabajaron en la casa de Jehová de los ejércitos, su Dios,

And the Lord aroused the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, so that they came and labored on the house of the Lord of hosts, their God,

15 e n el día veinticuatro del mes sexto, en el segundo año del rey Darío.

On the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.
