1 P or aquellos días, habiendo de nuevo mucha gente y no teniendo qué comer, llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:

In those days when an immense crowd had gathered and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and told them,

2 S e me enternecen las entrañas de compasión sobre la multitud, porque hace ya tres días que permanecen conmigo y no tienen qué comer;

I have pity and sympathy for the people and My heart goes out to them, for they have been with Me now three days and have nothing to eat;

3 y si los despido en ayunas a sus casas, desfallecerán en el camino, y algunos de ellos son de muy lejos.

And if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will be feeble through exhaustion and faint along the road; and some of them have come a long way.

4 L e respondieron sus discípulos: ¿De dónde podrá alguien, en este despoblado, sacar suficiente pan para satisfacer a éstos?

And His disciples replied to Him, How can anyone fill and satisfy with loaves of bread here in desolate and uninhabited region?

5 É l les preguntaba: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Ellos dijeron: Siete.

And He asked them, How many loaves have you? They said, Seven.

6 E ntonces manda a la multitud recostarse en el suelo; y tomando los siete panes, dio gracias, los partió, y comenzó a darlos a sus discípulos para que los pusiesen delante de la gente; y ellos los sirvieron a la multitud.

And He commanded the multitude to recline upon the ground, and He took the seven loaves and, having given thanks, He broke them and kept on giving them to His disciples to put before, and they placed them before the crowd.

7 T enían también unos pocos pececillos; y después de haberlos bendecido, dijo que fueran servidos también.

And they had a few small fish; and when He had praised God and given thanks and asked Him to bless them, He ordered that these also should be set before.

8 C omieron y quedaron satisfechos, y recogieron de las sobras de los pedazos siete canastas.

And they ate and were satisfied; and they took up seven '> large provision] baskets full of the broken pieces left over.

9 E ran unos cuatro mil; y los despidió.

And there were about 4, 000 people. And He dismissed them,

10 S ubió a continuación a la barca con sus discípulos y se fue a la región de Dalmanuta. Los fariseos piden una señal

And at once He got into the boat with His disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha (or Magdala).

11 E ntonces salieron los fariseos y comenzaron a discutir con él, reclamando de él una señal del cielo, para ponerle a prueba.

The Pharisees came and began to argue with and question Him, demanding from Him a sign (an attesting miracle from heaven) to test Him.

12 É l, habiendo gemido en su espíritu, dijo: ¿Por qué pide esta generación una señal? En verdad os digo que no se dará señal a esta generación.

And He groaned and sighed deeply in His spirit and said, Why does this generation demand a sign? Positively I say to you, no sign shall be given this generation.

13 Y dejándolos, se embarcó de nuevo y se fue a la otra orilla. La levadura de los fariseos

And He went away and left them and, getting into the boat again, He departed to the other side.

14 S e habían olvidado de proveerse de panes, y no tenían consigo en la barca sino un solo pan.

Now they had '> completely] forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat.

15 Y él les encargaba diciendo: Mirad bien que os guardéis de la levadura de los fariseos y de la levadura de Herodes.

And Jesus charged and admonished them, saying, Look out; keep on your guard and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod and the Herodians.

16 E llos razonaban entre sí: Es que no tenemos panes.

And they discussed it and reasoned with one another, It is because we have no bread.

17 P ercatado de ello, les dice Jesús: ¿Por qué razonáis de que no tenéis panes? ¿Aún no entendéis ni os dais cuenta? ¿Tenéis embotada vuestra inteligencia?

And being aware, Jesus said to them, Why are you reasoning and saying it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet discern or understand? Are your hearts in hardness?

18 T eniendo ojos ¿no veis? Y teniendo oídos ¿no oís? Y no recordáis,

Having eyes, do you not see, and having ears, do you not hear and perceive and understand the sense of what is said? And do you not remember?

19 c uando partí los cinco panes para los cinco mil, ¿cuántas cestas llenas de pedazos recogisteis? Le dicen: Doce.

When I broke the five loaves for the 5, 000, how many '> small hand] baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? They said to Him, Twelve.

20 Y cuando los siete para los cuatro mil, ¿cuántas canastas llenas de pedazos recogisteis? Y le dicen: Siete.

And the seven loaves for the 4, 000, how many '> large provision] baskets full of broken pieces did you take up? And they said to Him, Seven.

21 Y continuaba: ¿Todavía no os dais cuenta? Curación del ciego de Betsaida

And He kept repeating, Do you not yet understand?

22 L legan a Betsaida. Y le traen un ciego, suplicándole que lo toque.

And they came to Bethsaida. And brought to Him a blind man and begged Him to touch him.

23 T omando de la mano al ciego, lo sacó fuera de la aldea; y después de escupirle en los ojos y de poner las manos sobre él, le preguntaba: ¿Ves algo?

And He caught the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village; and when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands upon him, He asked him, Do you '> possibly] see anything?

24 É l alzó los ojos y dijo: Veo a los hombres, pues los veo como árboles, pero que están andando.

And he looked up and said, I see people, but like trees, walking.

25 E ntonces le puso otra vez las manos sobre los ojos; él miró fijamente y quedó restablecido, y comenzó a ver todas las cosas con claridad.

Then He put His hands on his eyes again; and the man looked intently, and he was restored and saw everything distinctly '> at a distance].

26 Y le envió a su casa, diciendo: Ni siquiera entres en la aldea, ni se lo digas a nadie en el pueblo. La confesión de Pedro

And He sent him away to his house, telling, Do not enter the village or tell anyone there.

27 S alió Jesús con sus discípulos hacia las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo; y en el camino preguntaba a sus discípulos, diciéndoles: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo?

And Jesus went on with His disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, Who do people say that I am?

28 E llos le respondieron: Unos, Juan el Bautista; otros, Elías; y otros, que uno de los profetas.

And they answered, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.

29 É l continuó preguntándoles: Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo? Respondiendo Pedro, le dice: Tú eres el Cristo.

And He asked them, But who do you yourselves say that I am? Peter replied to Him, You are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

30 Y él les amonestó seriamente que a nadie dijesen esto de él. Jesucristo anuncia su muerte y su resurrección

And He charged them sharply to tell no one about Him.

31 Y comenzó a enseñarles que el Hijo del Hombre debía padecer mucho, y ser rechazado por los ancianos, por los principales sacerdotes y por los escribas, ser condenado a muerte y resucitar a los tres días.

And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must of necessity suffer many things and be tested and disapproved and rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again '> from death].

32 Y les hablaba esto con toda franqueza. Entonces Pedro le tomó aparte y comenzó a reprenderle.

And He said this freely (frankly, plainly, and explicitly, making it unmistakable). And Peter took Him by the hand and led Him aside and then began to rebuke Him.

33 P ero él, volviéndose y mirando a sus discípulos, reprendió a Pedro, diciéndole: ¡Quítate de mi vista, Satanás!, porque no tienes en mente las cosas de Dios, sino las de los hombres.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, Get behind Me, Satan! For you do not have a mind intent on promoting what God wills, but what pleases men.

34 Y llamando a la multitud, así como a sus discípulos, les dijo: Si alguien quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame.

And Jesus called the throng with His disciples and said to them, If anyone intends to come after Me, let him deny himself '> lose sight of himself and his own interests] and take up his cross, and '> joining Me as a disciple and siding with My party] follow with Me.

35 P ues cualquiera que desee salvar su vida, la perderá; pero cualquiera que haya de perder su vida por causa de mí y del evangelio, la salvará.

For whoever wants to save his '> higher, spiritual, eternal] life, will lose it '> lower, natural, temporal life which is lived only on earth]; and whoever gives up his life for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it '> higher, spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God].

36 P orque ¿qué provecho hay en que una persona gane el mundo entero y que pierda su alma?

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life '> in the eternal kingdom of God]?

37 P ues ¿qué puede dar el hombre a cambio de su alma?

For what can a man give as an exchange ( a compensation, a ransom, in return) for his life '> in the eternal kingdom of God]?

38 P orque quienquiera que se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras, en medio de esta generación adúltera y pecadora, el Hijo del Hombre también se avergonzará de él, cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles.

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous (unfaithful) and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory (splendor and majesty) of His Father with the holy angels.
