1 A conteció en el mes séptimo que vino Ismael, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisamá, de la descendencia real, y algunos príncipes del rey y diez hombres con él, a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, en Mizpá; y comieron pan juntos allí en Mizpá.

Now in the seventh month Ishmael son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal descendants and one of the princes of the king, came with ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam in Mizpah. As they were eating a meal together there in Mizpah,

2 Y se levantó Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y los diez hombres que con él estaban, e hirieron a espada a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, matando así a aquel a quien el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra.

Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him arose and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword and killed him, the one whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

3 A simismo mató Ismael a todos los judíos que estaban con Gedalías en Mizpá, y a los soldados caldeos que allí estaban.

Ishmael also slew all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldean soldiers who were found there.

4 S ucedió además, un día después que había matado a Gedalías, cuando nadie lo sabía aún,

And the second day after the slaying of Gedaliah, before anyone knew about it,

5 q ue vinieron unos hombres de Siquem, de Siló y de Samaria, ochenta hombres, raída la barba, harapientos y arañados, y traían en sus manos ofrenda e incienso para llevar a la casa de Jehová.

There came eighty men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, having their beards shaved off and their clothes torn and having cut themselves, bringing cereal offerings and incense, going up to present them in the house of the Lord.

6 Y de Mizpá les salió al encuentro, llorando, Ismael el hijo de Netanías. Y aconteció que cuando los encontró, les dijo: Venid a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam.

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah went out from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all the way as he went. As he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.

7 Y cuando llegaron dentro de la ciudad, Ismael, hijo de Netanías, los degolló, y los echó dentro de una cisterna, con ayuda de los hombres que con él estaban.

And when they came into the city, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slew them, and cast them into the midst of the cistern pit—he and the men with him.

8 M as entre aquellos fueron hallados diez hombres que dijeron a Ismael: No nos mates; porque tenemos en el campo escondites de trigo, cebada, aceite y miel. Y los dejó, y no los mató como a sus hermanos.

But ten men were among them who said to Ishmael, Do not kill us! For we have stores hidden in the field—of wheat and barley and oil and honey. So he refrained and did not slay them with their brethren.

9 Y la cisterna en que echó Ismael todos los cuerpos de los hombres que mató a causa de Gedalías, era la misma que había hecho el rey Asá para prevenirse de Baasá rey de Israel; Ismael, hijo de Netanías, la llenó de muertos.

Now the cistern pit into which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain in addition to Gedaliah was the one which Asa the king had once made for fear of Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were slain.

10 D espués llevó Ismael cautivo a todo el resto del pueblo que estaba en Mizpá, a las hijas del rey y a todo el pueblo que había quedado en Mizpá, el cual, Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había encomendado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam. Los llevó, pues, cautivos Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y se fue a pasarse a los hijos de Amón.

Then Ishmael carried away captive all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah—even the king’s daughters and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah son of Ahikam. Ishmael son of Nethaniah carried them away captive and departed to cross over to the Ammonites.

11 Y cuando oyeron Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los jefes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él, todos los crímenes que había hecho Ismael, hijo de Netanías,

But when Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were with him heard of all the evil that Ishmael son of Nethaniah had done,

12 e ntonces tomaron a todos los hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael, hijo de Netanías, y lo hallaron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

They took all their men and went to fight with Ishmael son of Nethaniah and found him by the great pool that is in Gibeon.

13 Y aconteció que cuando todo el pueblo que estaba con Ismael vio a Johanán, hijo de Carea, y a todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él, se alegraron.

Now when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were with him, they were glad.

14 Y todo el pueblo que Ismael había traído cautivo de Mizpá se volvió y se fue al lado de Johanán, hijo de Carea.

So all the people whom Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned around and came back, and went to Johanan son of Kareah.

15 P ero Ismael, hijo de Netanías, escapó delante de Johanán con ocho hombres, y se fue a los hijos de Amón.

But Ishmael son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the Ammonites.

16 Y Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los capitanes de la gente de guerra que estaban con él tomaron a todo el resto del pueblo que habían recobrado de mano de Ismael, hijo de Netanías, a quienes éste llevó de Mizpá después de haber matado a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam; hombres de guerra, mujeres, niños y eunucos, que Johanán había hecho volver de Gabaón;

Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were with him took from Mizpah all the remainder of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael son of Nethaniah after he had slain Gedaliah son of Ahikam: the soldiers, the women, the children, and the eunuchs whom had brought back from Gibeon.

17 y fueron y habitaron en Gerut-quimam, que está cerca de Belén, con el propósito de meterse en Egipto,

And they departed and stayed at the lodging place of Chimham, which is near Bethlehem, to go to Egypt

18 p ues temían a los caldeos, por haber dado muerte Ismael, hijo de Netanías, a Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam, al cual el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra.

Because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them because Ishmael son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.
