1 E n el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asá, subió Baasá rey de Israel contra Judá, y fortificó a Ramá, para cortar las comunicaciones a Asá, rey de Judá.

In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built (fortified) Ramah intending to intercept anyone going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.

2 E ntonces sacó Asá plata y oro de los tesoros de la casa de Jehová y de la casa real, y envió a Ben-adad rey de Siria, que estaba en Damasco, diciendo:

Then Asa brought silver and gold out of the treasuries of the house of the Lord and of the king’s house and sent them to Ben-hadad king of Syria, who dwelt at Damascus, saying,

3 H aya alianza entre nosotros, como la hubo entre tu padre y mi padre; he aquí yo te he enviado plata y oro, para que vengas y deshagas la alianza que tienes con Baasá rey de Israel, a fin de que se retire de mí.

Let there be a league between me and you, as was between my father and your father. Behold, I am sending you silver and gold; go, break your league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me.

4 Y consintió Ben-adad con el rey Asá, y envió los capitanes de sus ejércitos contra las ciudades de Israel; y conquistaron Ijón, Dan, Abel-máyim y las ciudades de aprovisionamiento de Neftalí.

And Ben-hadad hearkened to King Asa and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.

5 O yendo esto Baasá, suspendió las fortificaciones en Ramá, y abandonó su obra.

And when Baasha heard it, he stopped building Ramah and let his work cease.

6 E ntonces el rey Asá tomó a todo Judá, y se llevaron de Ramá la piedra y la madera con que Baasá edificaba, y con ellas edificó a Geba y a Mizpá.

Then King Asa took all Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had been building, and with them he built Geba and Mizpah.

7 E n aquel tiempo vino el vidente Hananí a Asá rey de Judá, y le dijo: Por cuanto te has apoyado en el rey de Siria, y no te apoyaste en Jehová tu Dios, por eso el ejército del rey de Siria ha escapado de tus manos.

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, Because you relied on the king of Syria and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Syria has escaped you.

8 L os etíopes y los libios, ¿no eran un ejército numerosísimo, con carros y mucha gente de a caballo? Con todo, porque te apoyaste en Jehová, él los entregó en tus manos.

Were not the Ethiopians and Libyans a huge host with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied then on the Lord, He gave them into your hand.

9 P orque los ojos de Jehová contemplan toda la tierra, para mostrar su poder a favor de los que tienen corazón perfecto para con él. Neciamente has procedido en esto; porque de aquí en adelante habrá más guerra contra ti.

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him. You have done foolishly in this; therefore, from now on you shall have wars.

10 E ntonces se enojó Asá contra el vidente y lo echó en la cárcel, porque se encolerizó grandemente a causa de esto. En esta época, maltrató Asá también a algunos del pueblo. Muerte de Asá

Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in prison, for he was enraged with him because of this. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

11 M as he aquí los hechos de Asá, primeros y postreros, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

The acts of Asa, from first to last, are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

12 E n el año treinta y nueve de su reinado, Asá enfermó gravemente de los pies, y en su enfermedad no buscó a Jehová, sino a los médicos.

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet—until his disease became very severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but relied on the physicians.

13 Y durmió Asá con sus padres, y murió en el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado.

And Asa slept with his fathers, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.

14 Y lo sepultaron en los sepulcros que él había hecho para sí en la ciudad de David; y lo pusieron en un ataúd, el cual llenaron de perfumes y diversas especias aromáticas, preparadas por expertos perfumistas; e hicieron un gran fuego.

And they buried him in his own tomb which he had hewn out for himself in the City of David, and they laid him on a bier which was filled with sweet odors and various kinds prepared by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great burning in his honor.
