1 A conteció en el año undécimo, en el mes tercero, el día primero del mes, que vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 H ijo de hombre, di a Faraón rey de Egipto, y a su pueblo: ¿A quién te comparaste en tu grandeza?

Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his multitude: Whom are you like in your greatness?

3 H e aquí que el asirio era cedro en el Líbano, de hermosas ramas, de frondoso ramaje y de gran altura, y su copa estaba entre densas ramas.

Behold, Assyria, a cedar in Lebanon, with fair branches and with forestlike shade and of high stature, with its top among the thick boughs.

4 L as aguas lo hicieron crecer, lo encumbró el abismo; sus ríos corrían alrededor del lugar en que estaba plantado, y a todos los árboles del campo enviaba sus corrientes.

The waters nourished it; the deep made it grow tall; its rivers ran round about its planting, sending out its streams to all the trees of the forest.

5 P or tanto, se encumbró su altura sobre todos los árboles del campo, y se multiplicaron sus ramas, y a causa de las muchas aguas se alargó su ramaje que había echado.

Therefore it towered higher than all the trees of the forest; its boughs were multiplied and its branches became long, because there was much water when they were shot forth.

6 E n sus ramas hacían nido todas las aves del cielo, y debajo de su ramaje parían todas las bestias del campo, y a su sombra habitaban todas las grandes naciones.

All the birds of the heavens made their nests in its boughs, and under its branches all the wild beasts of the field brought forth their young and under its shadow dwelt all of the great nations.

7 S e hizo, pues, hermoso en su grandeza con la extensión de sus ramas; porque su raíz estaba junto a muchas aguas.

Thus was it beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was by many and great waters.

8 L os cedros del jardín de Dios no lo oscurecían; los cipreses no fueron semejantes a sus ramas, ni las plataneras fueron semejantes a su ramaje; ningún árbol en el jardín de Dios fue semejante a él en su hermosura.

The cedars in the garden of God could not hide or rival it; the cypress trees did not have boughs like it and the plane trees did not have branches like it, nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty.

9 L o hice hermoso con la multitud de sus ramas; y todos los árboles del Edén, que estaban en el jardín de Dios, tuvieron envidia de él.

I made it beautiful with the multitude of its branches, so that all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied it.

10 P or tanto, así dice el Señor Jehová: Ya que por ser encumbrado en altura, y haber levantado su cumbre entre densas ramas, su corazón se elevó con su altura,

Therefore thus said the Lord God: Because it is exalted in stature and has set its top among the thick boughs and the clouds, and its heart is proud of its height,

11 y o lo entregaré en manos del poderoso de las naciones, que de cierto le tratará según su maldad. Yo lo he desechado.

I will even deliver it into the hand of a mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with it. I have driven it out for its wickedness and lawlessness.

12 Y lo cortan extranjeros, los más feroces de las naciones, y lo derriban; sus ramas caen sobre los montes y por todos los valles, y en todos los barrancos de la tierra yace quebrado su ramaje; y se marchan de su sombra todos los pueblos de la tierra, y lo dejan.

And strangers, the most terrible of the nations, will cut it off and leave it; upon the mountains and in all the valleys its branches will fall and its boughs will lie broken by all the watercourses of the land, and all the peoples of the earth will go down out of its shade and leave it.

13 S obre sus restos habitan todas las aves del cielo, y sobre sus ramas están todas las bestias del campo,

Upon its ruins all the birds of the heavens will dwell, and all the wild beasts of the field will be upon branches.

14 p ara que no se exalte en su altura ninguno de los árboles que crecen junto a las aguas, ni levante su copa entre la espesura, ni confíe en su altura ninguno de los que beben aguas; porque todos están destinados a la muerte, a lo profundo de la tierra, entre los hijos de los hombres, con los que descienden a la fosa.

All this is so that none of the trees by the waters may exalt themselves because of their height or shoot up their top among the thick boughs and the clouds, and that none of their mighty ones should stand upon themselves for their height, all that drink water. For they are all delivered over to death, to the lower world, in the midst of the children of men, with those who go down to the pit (the grave).

15 A sí dice el Señor Jehová: El día que descendió al Seol, hice al abismo guardar luto y cubrirse por él, y detuve sus ríos, y las muchas aguas quedaron estancadas; ensombrecí al Líbano por él, y todos los árboles del campo se desmayaron.

Thus says the Lord God: When goes down to Sheol (the place of the dead), I will cause a mourning; I will cover the deep for it and I will restrain its floods, and the many waters will be stayed; and I will cause Lebanon to be in black gloom and to mourn for it, and all the trees of the field, dismayed, will faint because of it.

16 A l estruendo de su caída hice temblar a las naciones, cuando le hice descender al Seol con todos los que descienden a la sepultura; y todos los árboles del Edén, y los escogidos entre los mejores del Líbano, todos los que beben aguas, fueron consolados en lo profundo de la tierra.

I will make the nations quake at the sound of its fall when I cast it down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit, and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, will be comforted in the netherworld.

17 T ambién ellos descendieron con él al Seol, con los muertos a espada, los que fueron su brazo, los que estuvieron a su sombra en medio de las naciones.

They also shall go down into Sheol with it to those who were slain by the sword—yes, those who were its arm, who dwelt under its shadow in the midst of the nations.

18 ¿ A quién te has comparado así en gloria y en grandeza entre los árboles del Edén? Pues derribado serás con los árboles del Edén en lo profundo de la tierra; entre los incircuncisos yacerás, con los muertos a espada. Este es Faraón y todo su pueblo, dice el Señor Jehová.

To whom among the trees of Eden are you thus like in glory and in greatness? Yet you shall be brought down with the trees of Eden to the netherworld. You shall lie among the uncircumcised heathen with those who are slain by the sword. This is how it shall be with Pharaoh and all the multitude of his strength, his tumult, and his store, says the Lord God.
