1 E l quinto ángel tocó la trompeta, y vi una estrella que cayó del cielo a la tierra; y se le dio la llave del pozo del abismo.

Then the fifth angel blew trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth; and to the angel was given the key of the shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit).

2 Y abrió el pozo del abismo, y subió del pozo una humareda como la de un gran horno; y se oscureció el sol y el aire por el humo del pozo.

He opened the long shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit), and smoke like the smoke of a huge furnace puffed out of the long shaft, so that the sun and the atmosphere were darkened by the smoke from the long shaft.

3 Y del humo salieron langostas sobre la tierra; y se les dio poder, como tienen poder los escorpiones de la tierra.

Then out of the smoke locusts came forth on the earth, and such power was granted them as the power the earth’s scorpions have.

4 Y se les dijo que no dañasen a la hierba de la tierra, ni a ninguna cosa verde, ni a ningún árbol, sino solamente a los hombres que no tienen el sello de Dios en sus frentes.

They were told not to injure the herbage of the earth nor any green thing nor any tree, but only such human beings as do not have the seal (mark) of God on their foreheads.

5 Y les fue concedido, no que los matasen, sino que los atormentasen durante cinco meses; y su tormento era como tormento de escorpión cuando hiere al hombre.

They were not permitted to kill them, but to torment (distress, vex) them for five months; and the pain caused them was like the torture of a scorpion when it stings a person.

6 Y en aquellos días los hombres buscarán la muerte, y de ningún modo la hallarán; y ansiarán morir, pero la muerte huirá de ellos.

And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; and they will yearn to die, but death evades and flees from them.

7 E l aspecto de las langostas era semejante a caballos preparados para la guerra; en las cabezas tenían como coronas de oro; sus caras eran como caras humanas;

The locusts resembled horses equipped for battle. On their heads was something like golden crowns. Their faces resembled the faces of people.

8 t enían cabello como cabello de mujer; sus dientes eran como de leones;

They had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.

9 t enían corazas como corazas de hierro; el ruido de sus alas era como el estruendo de muchos carros de caballos corriendo a la batalla;

Their breastplates (scales) resembled breastplates made of iron, and the noise made by their wings was like the roar of a vast number of horse-drawn chariots going at full speed into battle.

10 t enían colas como de escorpiones, y también aguijones; y en sus colas tenían poder para dañar a los hombres durante cinco meses.

They have tails like scorpions, and they have stings, and in their tails lies their ability to hurt men for five months.

11 Y tienen por rey sobre ellos al ángel del abismo, cuyo nombre en hebreo es Abadón, y en griego, Apolión.

Over them as king they have the angel of the Abyss (of the bottomless pit). In Hebrew his name is Abaddon, but in Greek he is called Apollyon.

12 E l primer ay pasó; he aquí, vienen aún dos ayes después de esto.

The first woe (calamity) has passed; behold, two others are yet to follow.

13 E l sexto ángel tocó la trompeta, y oí una voz que salía de los cuatro cuernos del altar de oro que está delante de Dios,

Then the sixth angel blew trumpet, and from the four horns of the golden altar which stands before God I heard a solitary voice,

14 d iciendo al sexto ángel que tenía la trompeta: Suelta a los cuatro ángeles que están atados junto al gran río Eufrates.

Saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Liberate the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.

15 Y fueron soltados los cuatro ángeles que estaban preparados para la hora, día, mes y año, a fin de matar a la tercera parte de los hombres.

So the four angels who had been in readiness for that hour in the appointed day, month, and year were liberated to destroy a third of mankind.

16 Y el número de los ejércitos de los jinetes era de doscientos millones. Yo oí su número.

The number of their troops of cavalry was twice ten thousand times ten thousand (200, 000, 000); I heard what their number was.

17 A sí vi en la visión los caballos y a sus jinetes, los cuales tenían corazas de color de fuego, de jacinto y de azufre. Y las cabezas de los caballos eran como cabezas de leones; y de sus bocas salía fuego, humo y azufre.

And in vision the horses and their riders appeared to me like this: the riders wore breastplates the color of fiery red and sapphire blue and sulphur (brimstone) yellow. The heads of the horses looked like lions’ heads, and from their mouths there poured fire and smoke and sulphur (brimstone).

18 P or estas tres plagas fue muerta la tercera parte de los hombres; por el fuego, el humo y el azufre que salían de sus bocas.

A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues—by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur (brimstone) that poured from the mouths of the horses.

19 P ues el poder de los caballos está en su boca y en sus colas; porque sus colas son semejantes a serpientes, pues tienen cabezas, y con ellas dañan.

For the power of the horses to do harm is in their mouths and also in their tails. Their tails are like serpents, for they have heads, and it is by means of them that they wound people.

20 Y los demás hombres que no fueron muertos con estas plagas, no se arrepintieron de las obras de sus manos, para no adorar a los demonios, y a los ídolos de oro, de plata, de bronce, de piedra y de madera, los cuales no pueden ver, ni oír, ni andar;

And the rest of humanity who were not killed by these plagues even then did not repent of the works of their hands, so as to cease paying homage to the demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor move.

21 y no se arrepintieron de sus homicidios, ni de sus hechicerías, ni de su fornicación, ni de sus hurtos.

And they did not repent of their murders or their practice of magic (sorceries) or their sexual vice or their thefts.
