1 A l cincilea înger a sunat din trâmbiţă. Şi am văzut o stea care a căzut din cer pe pământ; i-a fost dată cheia pasajului spre Adânc.

Then the fifth angel blew trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth; and to the angel was given the key of the shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit).

2 A deschis pasajul spre Adânc, şi din pasaj a ieşit fum, ca fumul dintr-un cuptor mare. Soarele şi văzduhul s-au întunecat din cauza fumului din pasaj.

He opened the long shaft of the Abyss (the bottomless pit), and smoke like the smoke of a huge furnace puffed out of the long shaft, so that the sun and the atmosphere were darkened by the smoke from the long shaft.

3 D in fum au ieşit pe pământ lăcuste, cărora le-a fost dată o putere ca puterea pe care o au scorpionii pământului.

Then out of the smoke locusts came forth on the earth, and such power was granted them as the power the earth’s scorpions have.

4 L i s-a spus să nu facă rău nici ierbii de pe pământ, nici vreunei plante verzi şi nici vreunui copac, ci doar oamenilor care nu au pe frunţile lor sigiliul lui Dumnezeu.

They were told not to injure the herbage of the earth nor any green thing nor any tree, but only such human beings as do not have the seal (mark) of God on their foreheads.

5 N u li s-a dat voie să-i omoare, ci doar să-i chinuiască timp de cinci luni. Chinul pe care-l provocau era precum chinul provocat de un scorpion când înţeapă un om.

They were not permitted to kill them, but to torment (distress, vex) them for five months; and the pain caused them was like the torture of a scorpion when it stings a person.

6 Î n zilele acelea oamenii vor căuta moartea, dar nu o vor găsi. Vor dori să moară, dar moartea va fugi de ei.

And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; and they will yearn to die, but death evades and flees from them.

7 Î nfăţişarea lăcustelor era asemenea unor cai pregătiţi pentru război, iar pe capete aveau ceva ca nişte coroane care păreau de aur. Feţele lor erau ca nişte feţe de oameni;

The locusts resembled horses equipped for battle. On their heads was something like golden crowns. Their faces resembled the faces of people.

8 a veau părul ca părul de femeie şi dinţii ca de leu,

They had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth.

9 a veau platoşe ca nişte platoşe de fier, iar zgomotul făcut de aripile lor era ca zgomotul multor care trase de cai care aleargă în război.

Their breastplates (scales) resembled breastplates made of iron, and the noise made by their wings was like the roar of a vast number of horse-drawn chariots going at full speed into battle.

10 A veau cozi, ca scorpionii, şi ace, şi în cozile lor le stătea puterea de a face rău oamenilor timp de cinci luni.

They have tails like scorpions, and they have stings, and in their tails lies their ability to hurt men for five months.

11 Î l aveau ca împărat pe îngerul Adâncului. În ebraică, numele lui este „Abadon“, iar în greacă are numele de „Apolion“.

Over them as king they have the angel of the Abyss (of the bottomless pit). In Hebrew his name is Abaddon, but in Greek he is called Apollyon.

12 P rimul „vai“ s-a dus. Iată că mai vin încă două „vaiuri“.

The first woe (calamity) has passed; behold, two others are yet to follow.

13 A l şaselea înger a sunat din trâmbiţă. Şi am auzit un glas venind dintre (cele patru) coarne ale altarului de aur care este înaintea lui Dumnezeu,

Then the sixth angel blew trumpet, and from the four horns of the golden altar which stands before God I heard a solitary voice,

14 s punându-i celui de-al şaselea înger care avea trâmbiţa: „Eliberează-i pe cei patru îngeri care sunt legaţi la Râul cel Mare, adică Eufrat!“

Saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, Liberate the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.

15 C ei patru îngeri, care erau pregătiţi pentru ora, ziua, luna şi anul acela, au fost eliberaţi ca să omoare a treia parte din oameni.

So the four angels who had been in readiness for that hour in the appointed day, month, and year were liberated to destroy a third of mankind.

16 N umărul călăreţilor cavaleriei era de douăzeci de mii de ori zece mii; am auzit numărul lor.

The number of their troops of cavalry was twice ten thousand times ten thousand (200, 000, 000); I heard what their number was.

17 I ată cum am văzut în viziune caii şi pe cei care-i călăreau: aveau platoşe de un roşu aprins, albastru vineţiu şi galben ca pucioasa. Capetele cailor erau ca şi capetele de lei, iar din gurile lor ieşeau foc, fum şi pucioasă.

And in vision the horses and their riders appeared to me like this: the riders wore breastplates the color of fiery red and sapphire blue and sulphur (brimstone) yellow. The heads of the horses looked like lions’ heads, and from their mouths there poured fire and smoke and sulphur (brimstone).

18 A treia parte din oameni a fost omorâtă prin aceste trei urgii, şi anume prin focul, fumul şi pucioasa care ieşeau din gurile cailor.

A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues—by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur (brimstone) that poured from the mouths of the horses.

19 P uterea cailor era în gurile şi în cozile lor, căci cozile lor erau asemenea şerpilor, având capete cu care făceau rău.

For the power of the horses to do harm is in their mouths and also in their tails. Their tails are like serpents, for they have heads, and it is by means of them that they wound people.

20 O amenii care au mai rămas, şi anume cei care nu au fost omorâţi de aceste urgii, nu s-au pocăit de lucrările mâinilor lor, acelea de a nu se mai închina demonilor şi idolilor de aur, argint, bronz, piatră şi lemn, care nu pot nici să vadă, nici să audă, nici să umble.

And the rest of humanity who were not killed by these plagues even then did not repent of the works of their hands, so as to cease paying homage to the demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor move.

21 Ş i nu s-au pocăit nici de crimele lor, nici de vrăjitoriile lor, nici de desfrânarea lor şi nici de furturile lor.

And they did not repent of their murders or their practice of magic (sorceries) or their sexual vice or their thefts.
