1 „ Când Efraim vorbea, răspândea groază! El era înălţat în Israel, dar a păcătuit cu Baal şi a murit.

When Ephraim spoke with trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended and became guilty in Baal worship, he died.

2 A cum ei păcătuiesc întruna, îşi fac chipuri din argintul lor, idoli născociţi de ei, cu toţii lucrarea meşteşugarilor. Se zice despre ei: «Acei oameni care sacrifică, sărută idoli în formă de viţel».

And now they sin more and more and have made for themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. To these they speak or pray who sacrifice to them; they kiss and show homage to the calves!

3 D e aceea vor fi ca ceaţa de dimineaţă şi ca roua care dispare devreme, ca pleava suflată de vânt în arie şi ca fumul care iese din horn.

Therefore they shall be like the morning mist or like the dew that passes early away, like the chaff that swirls with the whirlwind from the threshing floor and as the smoke out of the chimney or through the window.

4 D ar Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, din ţara Egiptului. Să nu recunoşti nici un alt Dumnezeu în afară de Mine şi nici un alt Mântuitor, decât pe Mine.

Yet I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt, and you shall know or recognize no God but Me, for there is no Savior besides Me.

5 E u te-am hrănit când erai în pustie, într-un ţinut uscat.

I knew (recognized, understood, and had regard for) you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

6 C ând au dat însă de păşune, s-au săturat, iar după ce s-au săturat, s-au mândrit în inima lor şi astfel M-au uitat.

According to their pasture, so were they filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore have they forgotten Me.

7 P rin urmare, voi fi pentru ei ca un leu, îi voi pândi pe drum ca un leopard.

Therefore I have become to them like a lion; like a leopard I will lurk by the way and watch them.

8 V oi da peste ei ca o ursoaică prădată de puii săi şi le voi sfâşia pieptul. Îi voi devora ca un leu, iar fiarele câmpului îi vor sfâşia.

I will meet them like a bear that is robbed of her cubs, and I will rend the covering of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lioness, as a wild beast would tear them.

9 E şti pierdut, Israele, căci ai fost împotriva Mea, împotriva Ajutorului tău.

It is your destruction, O Israel, that you have been against Me, for in Me is your help.

10 U nde-ţi este regele, ca să te poată izbăvi acum? Unde sunt judecătorii din toate cetăţile tale? Unde sunt aceia despre care ziceai: «Dă-mi un rege şi conducători!»?

Where now is your king that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges of whom you said, Give me a king and princes?

11 Ţ i-am dat un rege, în mânia Mea, şi ţi l-am luat, în furia Mea!

I have given you a king in My anger, and I have taken him away in My wrath.

12 F ărădelegea Efraimului este adunată şi păcatul lui este păstrat.

The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store.

13 D urerile naşterii au venit la el, dar el este încă un copil neînţelept, căci în momentul zămislirii, nu vine la gura pântecelui.

The pains of a woman in childbirth are coming on for him; but he is an unwise son, for now when it is time, he comes not to the place where children break forth.

14 Î i voi răscumpăra de sub puterea Locuinţei Morţilor, îi voi răscumpăra de la moarte! Moarte, unde-ţi sunt molimele? Locuinţă a Morţilor, unde-ţi este distrugerea? Căinţa va fi ascunsă de privirile Mele,

Should I ransom them from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead)? Should I redeem them from death? O death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your destruction? Relenting and compassion are hidden from My eyes.

15 o ricât de roditor va fi el printre fraţii săi. Vântul de răsărit va veni, o suflare a Domnului se va stârni din pustie. Acesta îi va usca izvorul şi îi va seca fântâna. Vistieria îi va fi prădată de toate lucrurile preţioase.

For though among his brethren he may be fruitful, an east wind will come, the breath of the Lord rising from the desert; and Ephraim’s spring shall become dry and his fountain be dried up. shall plunder his treasury of every precious vessel.

16 S amaria îşi va purta vina pentru că s-a răzvrătit împotriva Dumnezeului ei. Vor cădea răpuşi de sabie; copiii lor vor fi măcelăriţi, iar femeile lor însărcinate vor fi spintecate.“

Samaria shall bear her guilt and become desolate, for she rebelled against her God; they shall fall by the sword, their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women shall be ripped up.
