1 D is-de-dimineaţă, conducătorii preoţilor au ţinut imediat sfat împreună cu bătrânii, cărturarii Legii şi întreg Sinedriul. L-au legat pe Isus, L-au dus şi L-au dat pe mâna lui Pilat.

And immediately when it was morning, the chief priests, with the elders and scribes and the whole council, held a consultation; and when they had bound Jesus, they took Him away '> violently] and handed Him over to Pilate.

2 P ilat L-a întrebat: – Eşti Tu Împăratul iudeilor? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui.

And Pilate inquired of Him, Are You the King of the Jews? And He replied, It is as you say.

3 C onducătorii preoţilor Îl acuzau de multe lucruri.

And the chief priests kept accusing Him of many things.

4 P ilat L-a întrebat din nou: – Nu răspunzi nimic? Uite de câte lucruri Te acuză ei!

And Pilate again asked Him, Have You no answer to make? See how many charges they are bringing against You!

5 D ar, spre mirarea lui Pilat, Isus n-a mai răspuns nimic.

But Jesus made no further answer at all, so that Pilate wondered and marveled.

6 P ilat le elibera la fiecare sărbătoare un prizonier pe care-l cereau ei.

Now at the Feast he set free for them any one prisoner whom they requested.

7 E ra unul numit Baraba, închis împreună cu răsculaţii care săvârşiseră o crimă în timpul răscoalei.

And among the rioters in the prison who had committed murder in the insurrection there was a man named Barabbas.

8 M ulţimea a venit şi a început să-i ceară lui Pilat să facă ceea ce făcea de obicei.

And the throng came up and began asking Pilate to do as he usually did for them.

9 P ilat i-a întrebat: – Vreţi să vi-L eliberez pe Împăratul iudeilor?

And he replied to them, Do you wish me to set free for you the King of the Jews?

10 C ăci el înţelesese că din invidie Îl dăduseră conducătorii preoţilor pe mâna lui.

For he was aware that it was '> because they were prompted] by envy that the chief priests had delivered Him up.

11 Î nsă conducătorii preoţilor au stârnit mulţimea să ceară să le elibereze mai bine pe Baraba.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to get him to release for them Barabbas instead.

12 P ilat i-a întrebat iarăşi: – Şi atunci ce (doriţi) să fac cu (Cel pe Care-L numiţi) Împăratul iudeilor?

And again Pilate said to them, Then what shall I do with the Man Whom you call the King of the Jews?

13 E i au strigat din nou: – Răstigneşte-L!

And they shouted back again, Crucify Him!

14 P ilat i-a întrebat: – Dar ce rău a făcut? Însă ei strigau şi mai tare: – Răstigneşte-L!

But Pilate said to them, Why? What has He done that is evil? But they shouted with all their might all the more, Crucify Him '> at once]!

15 Ş i astfel, Pilat, vrând să facă pe placul mulţimii, le-a eliberat pe Baraba, iar pe Isus, după ce a pus să-L biciuiască, L-a dat să fie răstignit. Isus, batjocorit de soldaţi

So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, set Barabbas free for them; and after having Jesus whipped, he handed over to be crucified.

16 S oldaţii L-au dus în curtea palatului, adică în pretoriu, şi au chemat toată cohorta.

Then the soldiers led Him away to the courtyard inside the palace, that is, the Praetorium, and they called the entire detachment of soldiers together.

17 L -au îmbrăcat cu o mantie purpurie, au împletit o coroană de spini şi I-au aşezat-o pe cap.

And they dressed Him in purple, and, weaving together a crown of thorns, they placed it on Him.

18 Ş i au început să-L salute zicând: „Salutare, Împărate al iudeilor!“

And they began to salute Him, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews!

19 E i Îl loveau peste cap cu o trestie, Îl scuipau şi se puneau în genunchi, închinându-I-se.

And they struck His head with a staff made of a reed and spat on Him and kept bowing their knees in homage to Him.

20 D upă ce şi-au bătut joc de El astfel, L-au dezbrăcat de mantia purpurie, L-au îmbrăcat cu hainele Lui şi L-au dus afară să-L răstignească. Răstignirea

And when they had making sport of Him, they took the purple off of Him and put His own clothes on Him. And they led Him out to crucify Him.

21 A u obligat un trecător, un om care venea de la câmp, şi anume pe Simon din Cirena, tatăl lui Alexandru şi al lui Rufus, să ducă crucea lui Isus.

And they forced a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the field (country), to carry His cross.

22 L -au adus la locul numit Golgota, care tradus înseamnă „Locul Craniului“.

And they led Him to Golgotha, meaning The Place of a Skull.

23 I -au dat să bea vin amestecat cu smirnă, dar El nu l-a luat.

And they give Him wine mingled with myrrh, but He would not take it.

24 D upă ce L-au răstignit, şi-au împărţit hainele Lui între ei, trăgând la sorţi pentru ele, ca să ştie cine ce să ia.

And they crucified Him; and they divided His garments and distributed them among themselves, throwing lots for them to decide who should take what.

25 E ra ceasul al treilea când L-au răstignit.

And it was the third hour (about nine o’clock in the morning) when they crucified Him.

26 A u pus o inscripţie cu următoarea acuzaţie împotriva Lui: „Împăratul iudeilor“.

And the inscription of the accusation against Him was written above, The King of the Jews.

27 A u răstignit cu El şi doi tâlhari, unul la dreapta şi unul la stânga Lui.

And with Him they crucified two robbers, one on right hand and one on His left.

28 ( Astfel a fost împlinită Scriptura, care zice: „A fost numărat alături de cei nelegiuiţi.“)

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, He was counted among the transgressors.

29 C ei ce treceau pe acolo Îl insultau, dădeau din cap şi ziceau: „Ha! Tu, Cel Care dărâmi Templul şi-l reconstruieşti în trei zile,

And those who passed by kept reviling Him and reproaching Him abusively in harsh and insolent language, wagging their heads and saying, Aha! You Who would destroy the temple and build it in three days,

30 s alvează-Te pe Tine Însuţi şi dă-Te jos de pe cruce!“

Now rescue Yourself '> from death], coming down from the cross!

31 T ot aşa Îl batjocoreau între ei şi conducătorii preoţilor împreună cu cărturarii, zicând: „Pe alţii i-a salvat, dar pe Sine Însuşi nu Se poate salva!

So also the chief priests, with the scribes, made sport of Him to one another, saying, He rescued others '> from death]; Himself He is unable to rescue.

32 « Cristosul»! «Împăratul lui Israel»! Să se coboare acum de pe cruce, ca să vedem şi să credem!“ Cei care erau răstigniţi împreună cu El Îl batjocoreau şi ei. Moartea lui Isus

Let the Christ (the Messiah), the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and trust in and rely on Him and adhere to Him! Those who were crucified with Him also reviled and reproached Him.

33 C ând a venit ceasul al şaselea, s-a făcut întuneric peste toată ţara până la ceasul al nouălea.

And when the sixth hour (about midday) had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour (about three o’clock).

34 Ş i la ceasul al nouălea Isus a strigat cu glas tare: „ Eloi, Eloi, lema sabactani ?“, care tradus înseamnă „Dumnezeul Meu, Dumnezeul Meu, de ce M-ai părăsit?“

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?—which means, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me '> deserting Me and leaving Me helpless and abandoned]?

35 U nii din cei ce stăteau acolo L-au auzit şi au zis: „Iată că-l strigă pe Ilie!“

And some of those standing by, hearing it, said, See! He is calling Elijah!

36 C ineva a alergat şi a umplut un burete cu vin acru, l-a pus într-o trestie şi I l-a dat să-l bea, zicând: „Lăsaţi să vedem dacă va veni Ilie să-L dea jos!“

And one man ran, and, filling a sponge with vinegar (a mixture of sour wine and water), put it on a staff made of a reed and gave it to Him to drink, saying, Hold off! Let us see whether Elijah come to take Him down.

37 I sus a scos un strigăt puternic şi Şi-a dat suflarea.

And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed out His life.

38 A tunci draperia Templului a fost despicată în două, de sus până jos.

And the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

39 C ând centurionul care se afla în faţa lui Isus a văzut cum Şi-a dat suflarea, a zis: „Într-adevăr, Omul Acesta era Fiul lui Dumnezeu!“

And when the centurion who stood facing Him saw Him expire this way, he said, Really, this Man was God’s Son!

40 A colo erau şi nişte femei care priveau de departe. Printre ele erau şi Maria Magdalena, Maria – mama lui Iacov cel tânăr şi a lui Iose – şi Salome,

Now some women were there also, looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome,

41 c are Îl urmaseră pe Isus şi-I slujiseră atunci când se afla în Galileea. Şi mai erau încă multe altele care veniseră cu El la Ierusalim. Înmormântarea lui Isus

Who, when was in Galilee, were in the habit of accompanying and ministering to Him; and also many other who had come up with Him to Jerusalem.

42 C ând s-a făcut deja seară, pentru că era Ziua Pregătirii, adică ziua de dinaintea Sabatului,

As evening had already come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, before the Sabbath,

43 I osif din Arimateea, un sfetnic distins din Sinedriu, care şi el aştepta Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu, a îndrăznit să se ducă la Pilat şi să-i ceară trupul lui Isus.

Joseph, he of Arimathea, noble and honorable in rank and a respected member of the council (Sanhedrin), who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, daring the consequences, took courage and ventured to go to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 P ilat s-a mirat că murise deja şi l-a chemat pe centurion ca să-l întrebe dacă a murit de mult timp.

But Pilate wondered whether He was dead so soon, and, having called the centurion, he asked him whether was already dead.

45 E l s-a lămurit de la centurion de lucrul aceasta şi apoi i-a dăruit lui Iosif trupul lui Isus.

And when he learned from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

46 I osif a cumpărat o pânză de in, apoi I-a dat jos trupul, L-a înfăşurat în pânza de in, L-a pus într-un mormânt săpat în stâncă şi a rostogolit o piatră la intrarea mormântului.

And Joseph bought a linen cloth '> for swathing dead bodies], and, taking Him down from the cross, he rolled Him up in the linen cloth and placed Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock. Then he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb.

47 M aria Magdalena şi Maria, mama lui Iose, au văzut unde fusese pus.

And Mary Magdalene and Mary of Joses were '> attentively] observing where He was laid.
