1 O profeţie cu privire la Babilon, pe care Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ, a văzut-o.

The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Babylon which Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

2 „ Ridicaţi un steag pe un munte pleşuv şi strigaţi tare la ei! Faceţi-le semn cu mâna să intre pe porţile nobililor!

Raise up a signal banner upon the high and bare mountain, summon them with loud voice and beckoning hand that they may enter the gates of the nobles.

3 E u Însumi am poruncit sfinţilor Mei şi Mi-am chemat vitejii – pe cei ce se bucură de măreţia Mea – să-Mi ducă la îndeplinire mânia.

I Myself have commanded My designated ones and have summoned My mighty men to execute My anger, even My proudly exulting ones —those who are made to triumph for My honor.

4 U n tumult se aude pe munţi, ca cel al unei mari mulţimi. Un vuiet de împărăţii, de neamuri adunându-se. Domnul Oştirilor Îşi strânge o oştire pentru luptă.

Hark, the uproar of a multitude in the mountains, like that of a great people! The noise of the tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathering together! The Lord of hosts is mustering the host for the battle.

5 E i vin dintr-o ţară îndepărtată, de la marginea cerurilor. Domnul şi uneltele mâniei Sale vin ca să distrugă întreaga ţară.

They come from a distant country, from the uttermost part of the heavens —even the Lord and the weapons of His indignation—to seize and destroy the whole land.

6 J eliţi-vă! Căci ziua Domnului este aproape; va veni ca devastare de la Cel Atotputernic.

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty and Sufficient One will it come!

7 D e aceea toate mâinile vor slăbi, inima oricărui om se va înmuia

Therefore will all hands be feeble, and every man’s heart will melt.

8 ş i toţi vor fi cuprinşi de spaimă. Chinurile şi durerile îi vor apuca şi se vor zvârcoli ca o femeie în travaliu. Se vor uita îngroziţi unul la altul, cu feţele înroşite.

And they shall be dismayed and terrified, pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman in childbirth. They will gaze stupefied and aghast at one another, their faces will be aflame.

9 P riveşte! Vine ziua Domnului, o zi a cruzimii! Vine cu mânie şi urgie aprinsă, pentru a face din ţară un pustiu şi pentru a nimici păcătoşii din ea.

Behold, the day of the Lord is coming!—fierce, with wrath and raging anger—to make the land and the earth a desolation and to destroy out of it its sinners.

10 S telele cerurilor şi constelaţiile lor nu-şi vor mai arăta lumina; soarele va fi întunecat la răsăritul lui, iar luna nu-şi va mai trimite lumina.

For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be darkened at its rising and the moon will not shed its light.

11 V oi pedepsi lumea pentru răul ei şi pe cei răi pentru păcatul lor. Voi pune capăt mândriei celor aroganţi şi voi doborî trufia tiranilor.

And I, the Lord, will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their guilt and iniquity; I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible and the boasting of the violent and ruthless.

12 V oi face ca oamenii să fie mai rari decât aurul fin, mai rari decât aurul de Ofir.

I will make a man more rare than fine gold, and mankind scarcer than the pure gold of Ophir.

13 P entru aceasta, voi face să se cutremure cerurile, iar pământul se va zgudui din temelii din pricina furiei Domnului Oştirilor, în ziua aprigei Lui mânii.

Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth shall be shaken out of its place at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of His fierce anger.

14 S e va-ntâmpla că, asemenea unei gazele urmărite sau a unei turme fără păstor, fiecare se va întoarce la poporul lui, fiecare va fugi în ţara lui.

And like the chased roe or gazelle, and like sheep that no man gathers, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.

15 O ricine va fi găsit va fi înjunghiat şi oricine va fi capturat va cădea ucis de sabie.

Everyone who is found will be thrust through, and everyone who is connected with the slain and is caught will fall by the sword.

16 C opiii lor vor fi zdrobiţi în bucăţi sub ochii lor, casele le vor fi jefuite, iar soţiile le vor fi necinstite.

Their infants also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

17 I ată, îi voi stârni împotriva lor pe mezi, cărora nu le va păsa de argint şi nu-şi vor găsi plăcerea în aur.

Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.

18 A rcurile lor îi vor străpunge pe cei tineri; de prunci nu vor avea milă, iar copiii nu vor găsi îndurare în ochii lor.

Their bows will cut down the young men; and they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb, their eyes will not spare children.

19 I ar Babilonul, gloria imperiilor, splendoarea şi mândria caldeenilor, va arăta ca Sodoma şi Gomora în vremea când le-a distrus Dumnezeu.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, shall be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.

20 N u va mai fi locuit niciodată, nu va mai fi nimeni în el pentru tot restul generaţiilor. Nici un arab nu-şi va întinde cortul acolo şi nici un păstor nu-şi va odihni turma în acel loc.

shall never be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arab pitch his tent there, nor shall the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

21 C i animalele deşertului vor sta acolo: şacalii îi vor umple casele, struţii vor locui acolo, iar ţapii sălbatici vor zburda în acel loc.

But wild beasts of the desert will lie down there, and the people’s houses will be full of dolefully howling creatures; and ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will dance there.

22 H ienele vor urla în palatele sale, iar şacalii – în casele lui de petrecere. Vremea lui este aproape şi zilele nu-i vor fi prelungite.

And wolves and howling creatures will cry and answer in the deserted castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. And time has nearly come, and her days will not be prolonged.
