1 P roorocie împotriva Babilonului, descoperită lui Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ.

The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Babylon which Isaiah son of Amoz saw:

2 R idicaţi un steag pe un munte gol, înălţaţi glasul spre ei, faceţi semne cu mîna, ca să vină la porţile asupritorilor!

Raise up a signal banner upon the high and bare mountain, summon them with loud voice and beckoning hand that they may enter the gates of the nobles.

3 A m dat poruncă sfintei Mele oştiri-zice Domnul-am chemat pe vitejii Mei la judecata mîniei Mele, pe cei ce se bucură de mărimea Mea.``

I Myself have commanded My designated ones and have summoned My mighty men to execute My anger, even My proudly exulting ones —those who are made to triumph for My honor.

4 U n vuiet se aude pe munţi, ca vuietul de popor mult; se aude o zarvă de împărăţii, de neamuri adunate. Domnul oştirilor Îşi cercetează oastea care va da lupta.

Hark, the uproar of a multitude in the mountains, like that of a great people! The noise of the tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathering together! The Lord of hosts is mustering the host for the battle.

5 E i vin dintr'o ţară depărtată, de la marginea cerurilor: Domnul şi uneltele mîniei Lui vor nimici tot pămîntul.

They come from a distant country, from the uttermost part of the heavens —even the Lord and the weapons of His indignation—to seize and destroy the whole land.

6 G emeţi! căci ziua Domnului este aproape: ea vine ca o pustiire a Celui Atotputernic!

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand; as destruction from the Almighty and Sufficient One will it come!

7 D e aceea toate mînile slăbesc, şi orice inimă omenească se topeşte.

Therefore will all hands be feeble, and every man’s heart will melt.

8 E i sînt năpădiţi de spaimă; îi apucă chinurile şi durerile; se zvîrcolesc ca o femeie în durerile naşterii, se uită unii la alţii încremeniţi; feţele lor sînt roşi ca focul.

And they shall be dismayed and terrified, pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman in childbirth. They will gaze stupefied and aghast at one another, their faces will be aflame.

9 I ată, vine ziua Domnului, zi fără milă, zi de mînie şi urgie aprinsă, care va preface tot pămîntul în pustiu, şi va nimici pe toţi păcătoşii de pe el.

Behold, the day of the Lord is coming!—fierce, with wrath and raging anger—to make the land and the earth a desolation and to destroy out of it its sinners.

10 C ăci stelele cerurilor şi Orionul nu vor mai străluci; soarele se va întuneca la răsăritul lui, şi luna nu va mai lumina.

For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be darkened at its rising and the moon will not shed its light.

11 V oi pedepsi-zice Domnul-lumea pentru răutatea ei, şi pe cei răi pentru nelegiuirile lor; voi face să înceteze mîndria celor trufaşi, şi voi doborî semeţia celor asupritori.

And I, the Lord, will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their guilt and iniquity; I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible and the boasting of the violent and ruthless.

12 V oi face pe oameni mai rari decît aurul curat, şi mai scumpi decît aurul din Ofir.

I will make a man more rare than fine gold, and mankind scarcer than the pure gold of Ophir.

13 P entru aceasta voi clătina cerurile, şi pămîntul se va zgudui din temelia lui, de mînia Domnului oştirilor, în ziua mîniei Lui aprinse.

Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth shall be shaken out of its place at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of His fierce anger.

14 A tunci, ca o căprioară speriată, ca o turmă fără păstor, fiecare se va întoarce la poporul său, fiecare va fugi în ţara lui.

And like the chased roe or gazelle, and like sheep that no man gathers, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.

15 T oţi ceice vor fi prinşi, vor fi străpunşi, şi toţi cei ce vor fi apucaţi, vor cădea ucişi de sabie.

Everyone who is found will be thrust through, and everyone who is connected with the slain and is caught will fall by the sword.

16 C opiii lor vor fi zdrobiţi supt ochii lor, casele le vor fi jăfuite, şi nevestele lor vor fi necinstite.

Their infants also will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.

17 I ată, aţîţ împotriva lor pe Mezi, cari nu se uită la argint, şi nu poftesc aurul.

Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.

18 C u arcurile lor vor doborî pe tineri, şi vor fi fără milă pentru rodul pîntecelor: ochiul lor nu va cruţa pe copii.

Their bows will cut down the young men; and they will have no pity on the fruit of the womb, their eyes will not spare children.

19 Ş i astfel Babilonul, podoaba împăraţilor, falnica mîndrie a Haldeilor, va fi ca Sodoma şi Gomora, pe cari le -a nimicit Dumnezeu.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, shall be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.

20 E l nu va mai fi locuit, nu va mai fi niciodată popor în el. Arabul nu-şi va mai întinde cortul acolo, şi păstorii nu-şi vor mai ţărcui turmele acolo,

shall never be inhabited or dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arab pitch his tent there, nor shall the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

21 c i fiarele pustiei îşi vor face culcuşul acolo, bufniţele îi vor umplea casele, struţii vor locui acolo, şi stafiile se vor juca acolo.

But wild beasts of the desert will lie down there, and the people’s houses will be full of dolefully howling creatures; and ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will dance there.

22 Ş acalii vor urla în casele lui împărăteşti pustii, şi cînii sălbatici în casele lui de petrecere. Vremea lui este aproape să vină, şi zilele nu i se vor lungi.``

And wolves and howling creatures will cry and answer in the deserted castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. And time has nearly come, and her days will not be prolonged.
