1 D upăce a isprăvit Isus toate cuvîntările acestea, a zis ucenicilor Săi:

When Jesus had ended this discourse, He said to His disciples,

2 c ă după două zile vor fi Paştele; şi Fiul omului va fi dat ca să fie răstignit!``

You know that the Passover is in two days—and the Son of Man will be delivered up treacherously to be crucified.

3 A tunci preoţii cei mai de seamă, cărturarii şi bătrînii norodului s'au strîns în curtea marelui preot care se numea Caiafa;

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the '> open] court of the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,

4 ş i s'au sfătuit împreună, cum să prindă pe Isus cu vicleşug, şi să -L omoare.

And consulted together in order to arrest Jesus by stratagem secretly and put Him to death.

5 D ar ziceau:,, Nu în timpul praznicului, ca să nu se facă turburare în norod.``

But they said, It must not be during the Feast, for fear that there will be a riot among the people.

6 C înd era Isus în Betania, în casa lui Simon leprosul,

Now when Jesus came back to Bethany and was in the house of Simon the leper,

7 s 'a apropiat de El o femeie cu un vas de alabastru cu mir foarte scump; şi, pe cînd sta El la masă, ea a turnat mirul pe capul Lui.

A woman came up to Him with an alabaster flask of very precious perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at table.

8 U cenicilor le -a fost necaz, cînd au văzut lucrul acesta, şi au zis:,, Ce rost are risipa aceasta?

And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, For what purpose is all this waste?

9 M irul acesta s'ar fi putut vinde foarte scump, şi banii să se dea săracilor.``

For this perfume might have been sold for a large sum and the money given to the poor.

10 C înd a auzit Isus, le -a zis:,, De ce faceţi supărare femeii? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine.

But Jesus, fully aware of this, said to them, Why do you bother the woman? She has done a noble (praiseworthy and beautiful) thing to Me.

11 P entrucă pe săraci îi aveţi totdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi totdeauna.

For you always have the poor among you, but you will not always have Me.

12 D acă a turnat acest mir pe trupul Meu, ea a făcut lucrul acesta în vederea pregătirii Mele pentru îngropare.

In pouring this perfume on My body she has done something to prepare Me for My burial.

13 A devărat vă spun că ori unde va fi propovăduită Evanghelia aceasta, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut femeia aceasta, spre pomenirea ei.``

Truly I tell you, wherever this good news (the Gospel) is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will be told also, in memory of her.

14 A tunci unul din cei doisprezece, numit Iuda Iscarioteanul, s'a dus la preoţii cei mai de seamă,

Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

15 ş i le -a zis:,, Ce vreţi să-mi daţi, şi -L voi da în mînile voastre?`` Ei i-au cîntărit treizeci de arginţi.

And said, What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you? And they weighed out for and paid to him thirty pieces of silver.

16 D in clipa aceea, Iuda căuta un prilej nimerit, ca să dea pe Isus în mînile lor.

And from that moment he sought a fitting opportunity to betray Him.

17 Î n ziua dintîi a praznicului Azimilor, ucenicii au venit la Isus, şi I-au zis:,, Unde vrei să-Ţi pregătim să mănînci Paştele?``

Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and said to Him, Where do You wish us to prepare for You to eat the Passover supper?

18 E l le -a răspuns:,, Duceţi-vă în cetate la cutare om, şi spuneţi -i:,,Învăţătorul zice:, Vremea Mea este aproape; voi face Paştele cu ucenicii Mei în casa ta.``

He said, Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, The Master says: My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples.

19 U cenicii au făcut cum le poruncise Isus, şi au pregătit Paştele.

And accordingly the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they made ready the Passover supper.

20 S eara, Isus a şezut la masă cu cei doisprezece ucenici ai Săi.

When it was evening, He was reclining at table with the twelve disciples.

21 P e cînd mîncau, El a zis:,, Adevărat vă spun că unul din voi Mă va vinde.``

And as they were eating, He said, Solemnly I say to you, one of you will betray Me!

22 E i s'au întristat foarte mult, şi au început să -I zică unul după altul:,, Nu cumva sînt eu, Doamne?``

They were exceedingly pained and distressed and deeply hurt and sorrowful and began to say to Him one after another, Surely it cannot be I, Lord, can it?

23 D rept răspuns, El le -a zis:,, Cel ce a întins cu Mine mîna în blid, acela Mă va vinde.

He replied, He who has dipped his hand in the same dish with Me will betray Me!

24 N egreşit, Fiul omului Se duce după cum este scris despre El. Dar vai de omul acela prin care este vîndut Fiul omului! Mai bine ar fi fost pentru el să nu se fi născut!``

The Son of Man is going just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better (more profitable and wholesome) for that man if he had never been born!

25 I uda, vînzătorul, a luat cuvîntul, şi I -a zis:,, Nu cumva sînt eu, Învăţătorule?``,, Da``, i -a răspuns Isus,,, tu eşti!``

Judas, the betrayer, said, Surely it is not I, is it, Master? He said to him, You have stated.

26 P e cînd mîncau ei, Isus a luat o pîne; şi după ce a binecuvîntat, a frînt -o, şi a dat -o ucenicilor, zicînd:,, Luaţi, mîncaţi; acesta este trupul Meu.``

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body.

27 A poi a luat un pahar, şi, după ce a mulţămit lui Dumnezeu, li l -a dat, zicînd:,, Beţi toţi din el;

And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you;

28 c ăci acesta este sîngele Meu, sîngele legămîntului celui nou, care se varsă pentru mulţi, spre iertarea păcatelor.

For this is My blood of the new covenant, which '> ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

29 V ă spun că, de acum încolo nu voi mai bea din acest rod al viţei, pînă în ziua cînd îl voi bea cu voi nou în Împărăţia Tatălui Meu.``

I say to you, I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it with you new and of superior quality in My Father’s kingdom.

30 D upă ce au cîntat cîntarea, au ieşit în muntele Măslinilor.

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 A tunci Isus le -a zis:,,În noaptea aceasta, toţi veţi găsi în Mine o pricină de poticnire; căci este scris:, Voi bate Păstorul, şi oile turmei vor fi risipite.`

Then Jesus said to them, You will all be offended and stumble and fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

32 D ar, după ce voi învia, voi merge înaintea voastră în Galilea.``

But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.

33 P etru a luat cuvîntul, şi I -a zis:,, Chiar dacă toţi ar găsi în Tine o pricină de poticnire, eu niciodată nu voi găsi în Tine o pricină de poticnire.``

Peter declared to Him, Though they all are offended and stumble and fall away because of You, I will never do so.

34 A devărat îţi spun``, i -a zis Isus,,, că tu, chiar în noaptea aceasta, înainte ca să cînte cocoşul, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori.``

Jesus said to him, Solemnly I declare to you, this very night, before a single rooster crows, you will deny and disown Me three times.

35 P etru I -a răspuns:,, Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor cu Tine, tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine.`` Şi toţi ucenicii au spus acelaş lucru.

Peter said to Him, Even if I must die with You, I will not deny or disown You! And all the disciples said the same thing.

36 A tunci Isus a venit cu ei într'un loc îngrădit, numit Ghetsimani, şi a zis ucenicilor:,,Şedeţi aici pînă Mă voi duce colo să Mă rog.``

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, Sit down here while I go over yonder and pray.

37 A luat cu El pe Petru şi pe cei doi fii ai lui Zebedei, şi a început să Se întristeze şi să se mîhnească foarte tare.

And taking with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to show grief and distress of mind and was deeply depressed.

38 I sus le -a zis atunci:,, Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte; rămîneţi aici, şi vegheaţi împreună cu Mine.``

Then He said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me.

39 A poi a mers puţin mai înainte, a căzut cu faţa la pămînt, şi S'a rugat, zicînd:,, Tată, dacă este cu putinţă, depărtează dela Mine paharul acesta! Totuş nu cum voiesc Eu, ci cum voieşti Tu.``

And going a little farther, He threw Himself upon the ground on His face and prayed saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but as You will and desire.

40 A poi a venit la ucenici, i -a găsit dormind, şi a zis lui Petru:,, Ce, un ceas n'aţi putut să vegheaţi împreună cu Mine!

And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, What! Are you so utterly unable to stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour?

41 V egheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită; duhul, în adevăr, este plin de rîvnă, dar carnea este neputincioasă.``

All of you must keep awake (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and watch and pray, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 S 'a depărtat a doua oară, şi S'a rugat, zicînd:,, Tată, dacă nu se poate să se îndepărteze de Mine paharul acesta, fără să -l beau, facă-se voia Ta!``

Again a second time He went away and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass by unless I drink it, Your will be done.

43 S 'a întors iarăş la ucenici, şi i -a găsit dormind; pentrucă li se îngreuiaseră ochii de somn.

And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were weighed down with sleep.

44 I -a lăsat din nou, S'a depărtat, şi S'a rugat a treia oară, zicînd aceleaşi cuvinte.

So, leaving them again, He went away and prayed for the third time, using the same words.

45 A poi a venit la ucenici, şi le -a zis:,, Dormiţi de acum şi odihniţi-vă!.. Iată că a venit ceasul ca Fiul omului să fie dat în mînile păcătoşilor.

Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of especially wicked sinners '> whose way or nature it is to act in opposition to God].

46 S culaţi-vă, haidem să mergem; iată că se apropie vînzătorul.``

Get up, let us be going! See, My betrayer is at hand!

47 P e cînd vorbea El încă, iată că vine Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, cu o gloată mare, cu săbii şi cu ciomege, trimeşi de preoţii cei mai de seamă şi de bătrînii norodului.``

As He was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, came up, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 V înzătorul le dăduse semnul acesta:,, Pe care -l voi săruta eu, acela este; să puneţi mîna pe el!``

Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, The One I shall kiss is the Man; seize Him.

49 Î ndată, Iuda s'a apropiat de Isus, şi I -a zis:,, Plecăciune, Învăţătorule!`` Şi L -a sărutat.

And he came up to Jesus at once and said, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), Master! And he embraced Him and kissed Him with warmth and devotion.

50 I sus i -a zis:,, Prietene, ce ai venit să faci, fă!`` Atunci oamenii aceia s'au apropiat, au pus mînile pe Isus, şi L-au prins.

Jesus said to him, Friend, for what are you here? Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and arrested Him.

51 Ş i unul din ceice erau cu Isus, a întins mîna, a scos sabia, a lovit pe robul marelui preot, şi i -a tăiat urechea.

And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword and, striking the body servant of the high priest, cut off his ear.

52 A tunci Isus i -a zis:,, Pune-ţi sabia la locul ei; căci toţi ceice scot sabia, de sabie vor pieri.

Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back into its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

53 C rezi că n'aş putea să rog pe Tatăl Meu, care Mi-ar pune îndată la îndemînă mai mult de douăsprezece legiuni de îngeri?

Do you suppose that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will immediately provide Me with more than twelve legions '> more than 80, 000] of angels?

54 D ar cum se vor împlini Scripturile, cari zic că aşa trebuie să se întîmple?``

But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must come about this way?

55 Î n clipa aceea, Isus a zis gloatelor:,, Aţi ieşit ca după un tîlhar, cu săbii şi cu ciomege, ca să Mă prindeţi. În toate zilele şedeam în mijlocul vostru, şi învăţam norodul în Templu, şi n'aţi pus mîna pe Mine.

At that moment Jesus said to the crowds, Have you come out with swords and clubs as against a robber to capture Me? Day after day I was accustomed to sit in the porches and courts of the temple teaching, and you did not arrest Me.

56 D ar toate aceste lucruri s'au întîmplat ca să se împlinească cele scrise prin prooroci.`` Atunci toţi ucenicii L-au părăsit şi au fugit.

But all this has taken place in order that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples deserted Him and, fleeing, escaped.

57 C eice au prins pe Isus, L-au dus la marele preot Caiafa, unde erau adunaţi cărturarii şi bătrînii.

But those who had seized Jesus took Him away to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled.

58 P etru L -a urmat de departe, pînă la curtea marelui preot; apoi a intrat înlăuntru, şi a şezut jos cu aprozii, ca să vadă sfîrşitul.

But Peter followed Him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest’s home; he even went inside and sat with the guards to see the end.

59 P reoţii cei mai de seamă, bătrînii şi tot Soborul căutau vre -o mărturie mincinoasă împotriva lui Isus, ca să -L poată omorî.

Now the chief priests and the whole council (the Sanhedrin) sought to get false witnesses to testify against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death;

60 D ar n'au găsit niciuna, măcar că s'au înfăţişat mulţi martori mincinoşi. La urmă au venit doi,

But they found none, though many witnesses came forward. At last two men came forward

61 ş i au spus: Acesta a zis:,, Eu pot să stric Templul lui Dumnezeu şi să -l zidesc iarăş în trei zile.``

And testified, This Fellow said, I am able to tear down the sanctuary of the temple of God and to build it up again in three days.

62 M arele preot s'a sculat în picioare, şi I -a zis:,, Nu răspunzi nimic? Ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva Ta?``

And the high priest stood up and said, Have You no answer to make? What about this that these men testify against You?

63 I sus tăcea. Şi marele preot a luat cuvîntul şi I -a zis:,, Te jur, pe Dumnezeul cel viu, să ne spui dacă eşti Hristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu.``

But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest said to Him, I call upon you to swear by the living God, and tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.

64 D a``, i -a răspuns Isus,,, sînt!,, Ba mai mult, vă spun că de acum încolo veţi vedea pe Fiul omului şezînd la dreapta puterii lui Dumnezeu, şi venind pe norii cerului.``

Jesus said to him, You have stated. More than that, I tell you: You will in the future see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty and coming on the clouds of the sky.

65 A tunci marele preot şi -a rupt hainele, şi a zis:,, A hulit! Ce nevoie mai avem de martori? Iată că acum aţi auzit hula Lui.

Then the high priest tore his clothes and exclaimed, He has uttered blasphemy! What need have we of further evidence? You have now heard His blasphemy.

66 C e credeţi?`` Ei au răspuns:,, Este vinovat să fie pedepsit cu moartea.``

What do you think now? They answered, He deserves to be put to death.

67 A tunci L-au scuipat în faţă, L-au bătut cu pumnii, şi L-au pălmuit,

Then they spat in His face and struck Him with their fists; and some slapped Him in the face,

68 z icînd:,, Hristoase, prooroceşte-ne-cine Te -a lovit?``

Saying, Prophesy to us, You Christ (the Messiah)! Who was it that struck You?

69 P etru însă şedea afară în curte. O slujnică a venit la el, şi i -a zis:,,Şi tu erai cu Isus Galileanul!``

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and one maid came up to him and said, You were also with Jesus the Galilean!

70 D ar el s'a lepădat înaintea tuturor, şi i -a zis:,, Nu ştiu ce vrei să zici.``

But he denied it falsely before them all, saying, I do not know what you mean.

71 C înd a ieşit în pridvor, l -a văzut o altă slujnică, şi a zis celor de acolo:,,Şi acesta era cu Isus din Nazaret.``

And when he had gone out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, This fellow was with Jesus the Nazarene!

72 E l s'a lepădat iarăş, cu un jurămînt, şi a zis:,, Nu cunosc pe omul acesta!``

And again he denied it and disowned Him with an oath, saying, I do not know the Man!

73 P este puţin, cei ce stăteau acolo, s'au apropiat, şi au zis lui Petru:,, Nu mai încape îndoială că şi tu eşti unul din oamenii aceia, căci şi vorba te dă de gol.``

After a little while, the bystanders came up and said to Peter, You certainly are one of them too, for even your accent betrays you.

74 A tunci el a început să se blastăme şi să se jure, zicînd:,, Nu cunosc pe omul acesta!`` În clipa aceea a cîntat cocoşul.

Then Peter began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, I do not even know the Man! And at that moment a rooster crowed.

75 Ş i Petru şi -a adus aminte de vorba, pe care i -o spusese Isus:,,Înainte ca să cînte cocoşul, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori.`` Şi a ieşit afară şi a plîns cu amar.

And Peter remembered Jesus’ words, when He had said, Before a single rooster crows, you will deny and disown Me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
