1 D ar Duhul spune lămurit că, în vremile din urmă, unii se vor lepăda de credinţă, ca să se alipească de duhuri înşelătoare şi de învăţăturile dracilor,

But the Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, giving attention to deluding and seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach,

2 a bătuţi de făţărnicia unor oameni cari vorbesc minciuni, însemnaţi cu ferul roş în însuş cugetul lor.

Through the hypocrisy and pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared (cauterized),

3 E i opresc căsătoria şi întrebuinţarea bucatelor, pe cari Dumnezeu le -a făcut ca să fie luate cu mulţămiri de către ceice cred şi cunosc adevărul.

Who forbid people to marry and to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and have knowledge of the truth.

4 C ăci orice făptură a lui Dumnezeu este bună: şi nimic nu este de lepădat, dacă se ia cu mulţămiri;

For everything God has created is good, and nothing is to be thrown away or refused if it is received with thanksgiving.

5 p entrucă este sfinţit prin Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu şi prin rugăciune.

For it is hallowed and consecrated by the Word of God and by prayer.

6 D acă vei pune în mintea fraţilor aceste lucruri, vei fi un bun slujitor al lui Hristos Isus, fiindcă te hrăneşti cu cuvintele credinţei şi ale bunei învăţături, pe care ai urmat -o pînă acum.

If you lay all these instructions before the brethren, you will be a worthy steward and a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever nourishing your own self on the truths of the faith and of the good instruction which you have closely followed.

7 F ereşte-te de basmele lumeşti şi băbeşti. Caută să fii evlavios.

But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers’ tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety),.

8 C ăci deprinderea trupească este de puţin folos, pe cînd evlavia este folositoare în orice privinţă, întrucît ea are făgăduinţa vieţii de acum şi a celei viitoare.

For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness (spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.

9 I ată un cuvînt adevărat şi cu totul vrednic de primit!

This saying is reliable and worthy of complete acceptance by everybody.

10 N oi muncim, în adevăr, şi ne luptăm, pentrucă ne-am pus nădejdea în Dumnezeul cel viu, care este Mîntuitorul tuturor oamenilor, şi mai ales al celor credincioşi.

With a view to this we toil and strive, suffer reproach, because we have hope on the living God, Who is the Savior (Preserver, Maintainer, Deliverer) of all men, especially of those who believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to Him).

11 P orunceşte, şi învaţă aceste lucruri.

Continue to command these things and to teach them.

12 N imeni să nu-ţi dispreţuiască tinereţea; ci fii o pildă pentru credincioşi: în vorbire, în purtare, în dragoste, în credinţă, în curăţie.

Let no one despise or think less of you because of your youth, but be an example (pattern) for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.

13 P înă voi veni, ia seama bine la citire, la îndemnare, şi la învăţătura pe care o dai altora.

Till I come, devote yourself to reading, to exhortation (preaching and personal appeals), and to teaching and instilling doctrine.

14 N u fi nepăsător de darul care este în tine, care ţi -a fost dat prin proorocie, cu punerea mînilor de către ceata presbiterilor (Sau: bătrîni.).

Do not neglect the gift which is in you, which was directly imparted to you by prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands upon you.

15 P une-ţi pe inimă aceste lucruri, îndeletniceşte-te în totul cu ele, pentruca înaintarea ta să fie văzută de toţi.

Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them, so that your progress may be evident to everybody.

16 F ii cu luare aminte asupra ta însuţi şi asupra învăţăturii, pe care o dai altora: stăruieşte în aceste lucruri, căci dacă vei face aşa, te vei mîntui pe tine însuţi şi pe cei ce te ascultă.

Look well to yourself and to teaching; persevere in these things, for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
