1 I srael a plecat, cu tot ce avea. A ajuns la Beer-Şeba, şi a adus jertfe Dumnezeului tatălui său Isaac.

So Israel made his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2 D umnezeu a vorbit lui Israel, într'o vedenie noaptea, şi a zis:,, Iacove! Iacove!`` Israel a răspuns:,, Iată-mă!``

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.

3 Ş i Dumnezeu a zis:,, Eu sînt Dumnezeu, Dumnezeul tatălui tău. Nu te teme să te pogori în Egipt, căci acolo te voi face să ajungi un neam mare.

And He said, I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will there make of you a great nation.

4 E u însumi Mă voi pogorî cu tine în Egipt, şi Eu însumi te voi scoate iarăş de acolo; iar Iosif îţi va închide ochii.``

I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand upon your eyes.

5 I acov a părăsit Beer-Şeba; şi fiii lui Israel au pus pe tatăl lor Iacov, cu copilaşii şi nevestele lor, în carele pe cari le trimesese Faraon ca să -l ducă.

So Jacob arose and set out from Beersheba, and Israel’s sons conveyed their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6 Ş i-au luat şi turmele şi averile, pe cari le agonisiseră în ţara Canaanului. Şi Iacov s'a dus în Egipt, cu toată familia lui.

And they took their cattle and the gains which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him:

7 A luat cu el în Egipt pe fiii lui şi pe fiii fiilor lui, pe fiicele lui şi pe fiicele fiilor lui, şi pe toată familia lui.

His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters—all his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

8 I ată numele fiilor lui Israel, cari au venit în Egipt. Iacov şi fiii lui. Întîiul născut al lui Iacov: Ruben.

And these are the names of the descendants of Israel who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.

9 F iii lui Ruben: Enoh, Palu, Heţron şi Carmi.

And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

10 - Fiii lui Simeon: Iemuel, Iamin, Ohad, Iachin şi Ţohar; şi Saul, fiu dintr'o femeie Cananită.

The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

11 - Fiii lui Levi: Gherşon, Chehat, şi Merari. -

The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

12 F iii lui Iuda: Er, Onan, Şela, Pereţ şi Zarah; dar Er şi Onan au murit în ţara Canaanului. Fiii lui Pereţ au fost: Heţron şi Hamul. -

The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

13 F iii lui Isahar: Tola, Puva, Iov şi Şimron. -

The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron.

14 F iii lui Zabulon: Sered, Elon şi Iahleel.

The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.

15 A ceştia sînt fiii, pe cari i -a născut lui Iacov Lea în Padan-Aram, împreună cu fiică-sa Dina. Fiii şi fiicele lui alcătuiau în totul treizeci şi trei de inşi.

These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah. All of his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

16 F iii lui Gad: Ţifion, Haggi, Şuni, Eţbon, Eri, Arodi şi Areeli. -

The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

17 F iii lui Aşer: Imna, Işva, Işvi şi Beria; şi Serah, sora lor. Şi fiii lui Beria: Heber şi Malchiel.

The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

18 A ceştia sînt fiii Zilpei, pe care o dăduse Laban fetei sale Lea; pe aceştia i -a născut ea lui Iacov. În totul şaisprezece inşi.

These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter. And these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons all told.

19 F iii Rahelei, nevasta lui Iacov: Iosif şi Beniamin. -

The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.

20 L ui Iosif i s'au născut, în ţara Egiptului: Manase şi Efraim, pe cari i -a născut Asnat fata lui Poti-Fera, preotul lui On. -

And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

21 F iii lui Beniamin; Bela, Becher, Aşbel, Ghera, Naaman, Ehi, Roş, Mupim, Hupim şi Ard.

And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

22 A ceştia sînt fiii Rahelei, pe cari i -a născut lui Iacov. În totul patrusprezece inşi.

These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

23 F iii lui Dan: Huşim.

The son of Dan: Hushim.

24 F iii lui Neftali: Iahţeel, Guni, Ieţer şi Şilem.

The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

25 A ceştia sînt fiii Bilhei, pe care o dăduse Laban fetei sale Rahela; şi pe aceştia i -a născut ea lui Iacov. În totul, şapte inşi.

These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter. And she bore these to Jacob—seven persons in all.

26 S ufletele cari au venit cu Iacov în Egipt şi cari ieşiseră din el, erau în totul şasezeci şi şase, fără să numărăm nevestele fiilor lui Iacov.

All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt—who were his own offspring, not counting the wives of Jacob’s sons—were sixty-six persons all told.

27 Ş i Iosif avea doi fii, cari i se născuseră în Egipt. -Toate sufletele din familia lui Iacov, cari au venit în Egipt, erau în număr de şaptezeci.

And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

28 I acov a trimes pe Iuda înainte la Iosif, ca să -i dea de ştire să -i iasă înainte în Gosen.

And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to direct him to Goshen and meet him there; and they came into the land of Goshen.

29 Ş i au venit în ţinutul Gosen. Iosif şi -a pregătit carul şi s'a suit ca să se ducă în Gosen, în întîmpinarea tatălui său Israel. Cum l -a văzut, s'a aruncat pe gîtul lui, şi a plîns multă vreme pe gîtul lui.

Then Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen; and he presented himself and gave distinct evidence of himself to him, and fell on the neck and wept on his neck a good while.

30 I srael a zis lui Iosif:,, Acum pot să mor, fiindcă ţi-am văzut faţa, şi tu tot mai trăieşti.``

And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face that you are still alive.

31 I osif a zis fraţilor săi şi familiei tatălui său:,, Mă duc să înştiinţez pe Faraon, şi să -i spun:, Fraţii mei şi familia tatălui meu, cari erau în ţara Canaan, au venit la mine.

Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say to him, My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

32 O amenii aceştia sînt păstori, căci cresc vite; ei şi-au adus oile şi boii, şi tot ce este al lor.``

And the men are shepherds, for their occupation has been keeping livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.

33 Ş i, cînd vă va chema Faraon şi vă va întreba:,, Cu ce vă îndeletniciţi?``

When Pharaoh calls you and says, What is your occupation?

34 v oi să răspundeţi:,, Robii tăi au crescut vite, din tinereţa noastră pînă acum, atît noi cît şi părinţii noştri.` În felul acesta, veţi locui în ţinutul Gosen, căci toţi păstorii sînt o urîciune pentru Egipteni.``

You shall say, Your servants’ occupation has been as keepers of livestock from our youth until now, both we and our fathers before us—in order that you may live in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
