1 I srael se puso en marcha con todo lo que tenía. Cuando llegó a Berseba, ofreció sacrificios al Dios de Isaac, su padre.

So Israel made his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2 U na noche, Dios le habló a Israel en una visión. Lo llamó por su nombre Jacob, y él respondió: «Aquí estoy.»

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.

3 D ios le dijo: «Yo soy Dios, el Dios de tu padre. No tengas miedo de ir a Egipto, porque allí haré de ti una gran nación.

And He said, I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will there make of you a great nation.

4 Y o iré contigo a Egipto, y también te haré volver. Y la mano de José te cerrará los ojos.»

I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand upon your eyes.

5 J acob partió de Berseba, y los hijos de Israel pusieron a su padre Jacob, y a sus niños y sus mujeres, en los carros que el faraón había enviado para llevarlo.

So Jacob arose and set out from Beersheba, and Israel’s sons conveyed their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6 T omaron sus ganados y los bienes que habían adquirido en la tierra de Canaán, y Jacob y toda su descendencia se fueron a Egipto.

And they took their cattle and the gains which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him:

7 J acob llevo a Egipto a sus hijos y a sus nietos, a sus hijas y a las hijas de sus hijos, y a toda su descendencia. A todos ellos los llevo consigo a Egipto.

His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters—all his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

8 É stos son los nombres de los hijos de Israel que llegaron a Egipto: Jacob y sus hijos. Rubén, primogénito de Jacob.

And these are the names of the descendants of Israel who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.

9 L os hijos de Rubén: Janoc, Falú, Jesrón y Carmi.

And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

10 L os hijos de Simeón: Jemuel, Jamín, Oad, Jaquín, Sojar y Saúl, hijo de la cananea.

The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

11 L os hijos de Leví: Gersón, Coat y Merari.

The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

12 L os hijos de Judá: Er, Onán, Sela, Fares y Seraj. Pero Er y Onán murieron en la tierra de Canaán. Los hijos de Fares fueron Jesrón y Jamul.

The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.

13 L os hijos de Isacar: Tola, Fuvá, Job y Simerón.

The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puvah, Iob, and Shimron.

14 L os hijos de Zabulón: Sered, Elón y Yajelel.

The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.

15 É stos fueron los hijos que Lea le dio a Jacob en Padán Aram, además de su hija Dina. Sus hijos e hijas fueron un total de treinta y tres personas.

These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah. All of his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

16 L os hijos de Gad: Zefón, Jaguí, Ezbón, Suni, Eri, Arodi y Areli.

The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

17 L os hijos de Aser: Imna, Isúa, Isúi, Beria, y Seraj, la hermana de ellos. Los hijos de Beria: Jéber y Malquiel.

The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

18 É stos fueron los hijos que Zilpa, la sierva que Labán dio a su hija Lea, le dio a Jacob: en total, dieciséis personas.

These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter. And these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons all told.

19 L os hijos de Raquel, mujer de Jacob: José y Benjamín.

The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.

20 E n la tierra de Egipto le nacieron a José dos hijos, Manasés y Efraín, que tuvo con Asenat, la hija de Potifera, el sacerdote de On.

And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

21 L os hijos de Benjamín fueron Bela, Bequer, Asbel, Gera, Namán, Ehí, Ros, Mupín, Jupín y Ard.

And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

22 É stos fueron los hijos que de Raquel le nacieron a Jacob. En total, catorce personas.

These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

23 L os hijos de Dan: Jusín.

The son of Dan: Hushim.

24 L os hijos de Neftalí: Yajesel, Guni, Yéser y Silén.

The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

25 É stos fueron los hijos que Bilá, la sierva que Labán dio a su hija Raquel, le dio a Jacob. En total, siete personas.

These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter. And she bore these to Jacob—seven persons in all.

26 T odos los descendientes de Jacob que llegaron a Egipto fueron un total de sesenta y seis personas, sin contar a las mujeres de los hijos de Jacob.

All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt—who were his own offspring, not counting the wives of Jacob’s sons—were sixty-six persons all told.

27 L os hijos que le nacieron a José en Egipto fueron dos. En total, los miembros de la casa de Jacob, que llegaron a Egipto, fueron setenta.

And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

28 C uando llegaron a la tierra de Gosén, Jacob mandó a Judá que se adelantara para pedirle a José que viniera a verlo allí.

And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to direct him to Goshen and meet him there; and they came into the land of Goshen.

29 J osé unció su carro y fue a recibir a Israel, su padre, en Gosén. Cuando lo vio, se echó sobre su cuello y lloró largamente.

Then Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen; and he presented himself and gave distinct evidence of himself to him, and fell on the neck and wept on his neck a good while.

30 E ntonces Israel le dijo a José: «Ahora que ya he visto tu rostro, y sé que aún vives, ya puedo morirme.»

And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face that you are still alive.

31 J osé les dijo a sus hermanos y a todos los de la casa de su padre: «Voy a darle la noticia al faraón. Le diré que mis hermanos y la familia de mi padre, que estaban en la tierra de Canaán, han venido a mí.

Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say to him, My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

32 L e diré que son pastores de ovejas y ganaderos, y que han traído sus ovejas y sus vacas, y todo lo que tenían.

And the men are shepherds, for their occupation has been keeping livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.

33 C uando el faraón los llame y les pregunte a qué se dedican,

When Pharaoh calls you and says, What is your occupation?

34 d íganle: “Desde nuestra juventud y hasta ahora, estos siervos tuyos nos dedicamos a criar ganado, lo mismo que nuestros padres.” Esto, a fin de que ustedes se queden a vivir en la tierra de Gosén, porque a los egipcios les repugnan los pastores de ovejas.»

You shall say, Your servants’ occupation has been as keepers of livestock from our youth until now, both we and our fathers before us—in order that you may live in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
