1 ¡ Alabemos al Señor, porque él es bueno; porque su misericordia es constante!

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

2 Q ue lo afirmen los redimidos por Dios, los que salvó del poderoso enemigo,

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has delivered from the hand of the adversary,

3 l os que reunió desde lejanas tierras, Del oriente y del occidente, Del norte y del sur.

And gathered them out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the Sea in the south.

4 P erdidos en el desierto, no hallaban un camino que los llevara a una ciudad habitable.

Some wandered in the wilderness in a solitary desert track; they found no city for habitation.

5 A ndaban hambrientos y sedientos, con el alma a punto de desfallecer.

Hungry and thirsty, they fainted; their lives were near to being extinguished.

6 E n su angustia, clamaron al Señor, y él los libró de sus aflicciones,

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.

7 l os guió por un buen camino, hasta encontrar una ciudad habitable.

He led them forth by the straight and right way, that they might go to a city where they could establish their homes.

8 ¡ Alabemos la misericordia del Señor y sus grandes hechos en favor de los mortales!

Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!

9 E l Señor sacia la sed del sediento, y colma con buena comida al hambriento.

For He satisfies the longing soul and fills the hungry soul with good.

10 A lgunos vivían en profunda oscuridad, prisioneros de la aflicción y las cadenas,

Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and in irons,

11 p ues fueron rebeldes a los mandatos de Dios y despreciaron los proyectos del Altísimo.

Because they had rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High.

12 D ios quebrantó su orgullo con trabajos pesados; caían, y no había quien los levantara.

Therefore He bowed down their hearts with hard labor; they stumbled and fell down, and there was none to help.

13 P ero en su angustia clamaron al Señor, y él los salvó de toda su aflicción;

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses.

14 l os sacó de la profunda oscuridad, y puso fin a su aflicción y sus cadenas.

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke apart the bonds that held them.

15 ¡ Alabemos la misericordia del Señor, y sus grandes hechos en favor de los mortales!

Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!

16 É l destruye las puertas de bronce, y despedaza los cerrojos de hierro.

For He has broken the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron apart.

17 O bstinados en su conducta rebelde, y afligidos por causa de sus maldades,

Some are fools because of the way of their transgressions and are afflicted because of their iniquities.

18 l legaron a aborrecer toda clase de alimento; ¡ya tocaban a las puertas de la muerte!

They loathe every kind of food, and they draw near to the gates of death.

19 P ero en su angustia clamaron al Señor, Y él los libró de su aflicción.

Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivers them out of their distresses.

20 C on el poder de su palabra los sanó, y los libró de caer en el sepulcro.

He sends forth His word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction.

21 ¡ Alabemos la misericordia del Señor, y sus grandes hechos en favor de los mortales!

Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!

22 ¡ Ofrezcámosle sacrificios de gratitud, y jubilosos proclamemos sus obras!

And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving and rehearse His deeds with shouts of joy and singing!

23 L os marinos, que conocen el mar, con sus naves comercian en muchos lugares.

Some go down to the sea and travel over it in ships to do business in great waters;

24 A llí, en lo profundo del mar, han visto las maravillosas obras del Señor.

These see the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep.

25 É l habló, y se desató un viento tempestuoso, y gigantescas olas se encresparon.

For He commands and raises up the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea.

26 S e levantaban hacia el cielo, o se hundían en el mar; y ellos se desanimaban y temblaban de miedo.

mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the deeps; their courage melts away because of their plight.

27 I nseguros, daban traspiés, como ebrios; ¡de nada les servía toda su pericia!

They reel to and fro and stagger like a drunken man and are at their wits’ end.

28 P ero en su angustia clamaron al Señor, Y él los libró de su aflicción:

Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He brings them out of their distresses.

29 c onvirtió la tempestad en bonanza, y apaciguó las amenazantes olas.

He hushes the storm to a calm and to a gentle whisper, so that the waves of the sea are still.

30 A nte esa calma, sonrieron felices porque él los lleva a puerto seguro.

Then the men are glad because of the calm, and He brings them to their desired haven.

31 ¡ Alabemos la misericordia del Señor, y sus grandes hechos en favor de los mortales!

Oh, that men would praise the Lord for His goodness and loving-kindness and His wonderful works to the children of men!

32 ¡ Que lo exalte el pueblo congregado! ¡Que lo alabe el consejo de ancianos!

Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people and praise Him in the company of the elders.

33 E l Señor convierte ríos y manantiales, en sequedades y áridos desiertos;

He turns rivers into a wilderness, water springs into a thirsty ground,

34 p or la maldad de sus habitantes deja estéril la tierra generosa;

A fruitful land into a barren, salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

35 c onvierte el desierto en lagunas, y la tierra seca en manantiales.

He turns a wilderness into a pool of water and a dry ground into water springs;

36 A llí se establecen los que sufren de hambre, y fundan ciudades donde puedan vivir.

And there He makes the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation,

37 L uego siembran los campos, y plantan sus viñas, y recogen abundantes cosechas.

And sow fields, and plant vineyards which yield fruits of increase.

38 D ios los bendice y les da muchos hijos, y no deja que sus ganados se reduzcan.

He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly, and allows not their cattle to decrease.

39 P ero si disminuyen y son humillados, es por causa de la opresión, la maldad y la congoja.

When they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, trouble, and sorrow,

40 P ero el Señor desprecia a los tiranos, y los hace perderse en desiertos sin camino.

He pours contempt upon princes and causes them to wander in waste places where there is no road.

41 E l Señor rescata al pobre de su miseria, y multiplica sus hijos como rebaños de ovejas.

Yet He raises the poor and needy from affliction and makes their families like a flock.

42 A l ver esto, los fieles se alegran, y los malvados guardan silencio.

The upright shall see it and be glad, but all iniquity shall shut its mouth.

43 S i hay alguien sabio, que cumpla con esto, y que entienda que el Señor es misericordioso.

Whoso is wise will observe and heed these things; and they will diligently consider the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord.
