Can you draw out the leviathan (the crocodile) with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?

Can you put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook or a spike?

3 ¿ Acaso crees que te pedirá clemencia, o que con palabras dulces te pedirá su libertad?

Will he make many supplications to you ? Will he speak soft words to you ?

4 ¿ Crees que se comprometerá contigo a ser tu siervo para siempre?

Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant forever?

5 ¿ Podrás jugar con él, como con un ave, y ponerle un lazo para que se diviertan tus hijas?

Will you play with as with a bird? Or will you put him on a leash for your maidens?

6 ¿ Ofrecerás con él un banquete para tus amigos? ¿Podrán los carniceros descuartizarlo y venderlo?

Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants?

7 ¿ Podrás cortar con cuchillo su dura piel? ¿Podrás clavarle un arpón en la cabeza?

Can you fill his skin with harpoons? Or his head with fishing spears?

8 H az el intento siquiera de tocarlo: ¡será una batalla memorable, que nunca más repetirás!

Lay your hand upon him! Remember your battle with him; you will not do again!

9 » En vano espera quien pretenda domarlo; de sólo verlo cerca, el más valiente tiembla.

Behold, the hope of is disappointed; one is cast down even at the sight of him!

10 N o hay nadie tan osado que lo quiera despertar; entonces, ¿quién podría enfrentarse a mí?

No one is so fierce that he dares to stir up; who then is he who can stand before Me ?

11 ¿ Quién me ha dado algo, para que se lo devuelva? ¡Mío es todo lo que hay debajo de los cielos!

Who has first given to Me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heavens is Mine.

12 » Aún me falta decir algo acerca de sus miembros, de su gran poder y de su elegante presencia.

I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.

13 ¿ Hay alguien capaz de hacerle frente? ¿Alguien que se arme de valor y le coloque un freno?

Who can strip off outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?

14 ¿ Quién podrá abrirle esas potentes quijadas, sin que se espante al ver sus filosos colmillos?

Who can open the doors of his mouth? His teeth are terrible round about.

15 E stá orgullosamente revestido de duros escudos, cuyo cerrado tejido resguarda su cuerpo.

His scales are pride, shut up together a tight seal;

16 T an estrechamente unidos están unos con otros, que ni el viento más fino los puede atravesar.

One is so near to another that no air can come between them.

17 C ada escudo se entrelaza con el otro; están trabados entre sí, y no se pueden separar.

They are joined one to another; they stick together so that they cannot be separated.

18 C uando esta bestia resopla, lanza fuego, y sus ojos brillan como la luz del amanecer.

His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the dawn.

19 D e su hocico brotan lenguas de fuego; ¡chispas de lumbre salen disparadas!

Out of his mouth go burning torches, sparks of fire leap out.

20 P or su trompa lanza humo como chimenea, ¡despide vapor como una olla en el fuego!

Out of his nostrils goes forth smoke, as out of a seething pot over a fire of rushes.

21 C on sus resoplidos prende fuego a los carbones, pues brama y lanza fuego por sus fauces.

His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes forth from his mouth.

22 L a fuerza de su cuerpo está en su cuello; cuando ataca, cunde el miedo como polvo.

In neck abides strength, and terror dances before him.

23 S u piel parece blanda, pero es dura; es tan firme y resistente como el hierro.

The folds of his flesh cleave together; they are firm upon him, and they cannot shake.

24 S u corazón es duro como una roca, rígido como una piedra de molino.

His heart is as firm as a stone, indeed, as solid as a nether millstone.

25 A ún los más valientes se le enfrentan temerosos, y llenos de miedo se rinden ante él.

When raises himself up, the mighty are afraid; because of terror and the crashing they are beside themselves.

26 S i alguno le da alcance, con la espada no lo hiere, ni con lanza ni flechas, ni su escudo lo protege.

Even if one strikes at him with the sword, it cannot get any hold, nor does the spear, the dart, or the javelin.

27 E l hierro es para él como la paja, y el bronce es como un tronco podrido.

He counts iron as straw and bronze as rotten wood.

28 N o le espantan las flechas que sobre él caen, y las piedras lanzadas con honda le son como paja.

The arrow cannot make flee; slingstones are treated by him as stubble.

29 P ara él, las armas son como hojas secas, y el silbido de la jabalina le resulta divertido.

Clubs are counted as stubble; he laughs at the rushing and the rattling of the javelin.

30 S u pecho está cubierto de agudas escamas, y al arrastrarse va abriendo surcos en el fango.

His underparts are like sharp pieces of broken pottery; he spreads a threshing sledge upon the mire.

31 S i se lanza al mar, éste hierve, y brotan candentes burbujas de agua.

He makes the deep boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment.

32 T ras de sí va dejando una brillante estela, ¡cabellera de plata se torna la blanca espuma!

33 N ada en la tierra se le puede comparar; es un monstruo que a nada le teme.

Upon earth there is not equal, a creature made without fear and he behaves fearlessly.

34 A los poderosos los mira con desprecio; ¡es el rey de todos los soberbios!»

He looks all mighty in the face; he is monarch over all the sons of pride. '> who are you who dares not arouse the unmastered crocodile, yet who dares resist Me, the beast’s Creator, to My face? Everything under the heavens is Mine; therefore, who can have a claim against God?]
