1 P rofecía acerca de Damasco. Es un hecho: Damasco dejará de ser ciudad, para convertirse en un montón de ruinas.

The mournful, inspired prediction (a burden to be lifted up) concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.

2 L as ciudades de Aroer han quedado abandonadas, convertidas en pastizales; allí pacen los rebaños sin que nadie los moleste.

The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

3 L a fortaleza de Efraín llegó a su fin; Damasco ha dejado de ser reino. Lo que aún quede de Siria se convertirá en riqueza para los israelitas. —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos. Juicio sobre Israel

His bulwark and the fortress shall disappear from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus; and the remnant of Syria will be like the glory of the children of Israel, says the Lord of hosts.

4 C uando llegue ese día, disminuirá la gloria de Jacob y se enjutará su carne.

And in that day the former glory of Jacob shall be enfeebled, and the fat of his flesh shall become lean.

5 S erá como cuando se siega el trigo, que con su brazo el segador recoge las espigas. Será también como cuando se recogen espigas en el valle de Refayin.

And it shall be as when the reaper gathers the standing grain and his arm harvests the ears; yes, it shall be as when one gathers the ears of grain in the fertile Valley of Rephaim.

6 Q uedarán en él ripios, como cuando se sacuden los olivos, que en la punta de la rama quedan dos o tres aceitunas, y hasta cuatro o cinco en las ramas más fructíferas. —Palabra del Señor, el Dios de Israel.

Yet gleanings shall be left in it, as after the beating of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of the fruitful tree, says the Lord, the God of Israel.

7 C uando llegue ese día, el hombre mirará a su Hacedor; sus ojos contemplarán al Santo de Israel.

In that day will men look to their Maker, and their eyes shall regard the Holy One of Israel.

8 Y a no volverá la mirada a los altares de incienso que hizo con sus manos, ni a los troncos de Asera que hizo con sus dedos.

And they will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, neither will they have respect for what their fingers have made—either the Asherim or the sun-images.

9 C uando llegue ese día, sus ciudades amuralladas serán como los frutos que quedan en los renuevos y en las ramas, que se dejaron por causa de los israelitas. Y habrá desolación.

In that day will their strong cities be like the forsaken places in the wood and on the mountaintop, as they '> Amorites and the Hivites] forsook their because of the children of Israel; and there will be desolation.

10 Y es que tú te olvidaste del Dios de tu salvación; no te acordaste de la roca de tu refugio. Por eso sembrarás plantas hermosas, y plantarás sarmientos extraños.

Because you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not been mindful of the Rock of your strength, your Stronghold—therefore, you have planted pleasant nursery grounds and plantings, and have set with vine slips of a strange,

11 C uando las plantes, harás que crezcan y que su simiente brote en la mañana; pero en el día de la angustia se perderá la cosecha, y el dolor será incurable.

And in the day of your planting you hedge it in, and in the morning you make your seed to blossom, yet the harvest shall be a heap of ruins and flee away in the day of expected possession and of desperate sorrow and sickening, incurable pain.

12 ¡ Ay de esa vasta muchedumbre, que brama como mar embravecido! ¡Ay de las naciones que se alborotan como aguas tempestuosas!

Hark, the uproar of a multitude of peoples! They roar and thunder like the noise of the seas! Ah, the roar of nations! They roar like the roaring of rushing and mighty waters!

13 P odrán los pueblos alborotarse como aguas tempestuosas, pero Dios los reprenderá y huirán muy lejos; serán arrebatados como el polvo de los montes ante el viento, ¡como el polvo ante el torbellino!

The nations will rush and roar like the rushing and roaring of many waters—but will rebuke them, and they will flee far off and will be chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind, and like rolling thistledown or whirling dust of the stubble before the storm.

14 A l caer la tarde, habrá desconcierto; pero antes del amanecer el enemigo dejará de existir. ¡Eso es lo que les espera a nuestros opresores! ¡Esa suerte correrán los que nos saquean!

At evening time, behold, terror! And before the morning, they are not. This is the portion of those who strip us of what belongs to us, and the lot of those who rob us.
