1 ¡ Miren, el Señor deja la tierra desnuda y vacía! ¡Trastorna su faz y esparce a sus habitantes!

Behold, the Lord will make the land and the earth empty and make it waste and turn it upside down (twist the face of it) and scatter abroad its inhabitants.

2 L o mismo sucede entre pueblo y sacerdote, entre criado y amo, entre criada y ama, entre comprador y vendedor, entre acreedor y deudor, entre el que presta y el que pide prestado.

And it shall be—as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the creditor, so with the debtor.

3 L a tierra ha quedado totalmente vacía y saqueada, porque el Señor ha emitido esta sentencia.

The land and the earth shall be utterly laid waste and utterly pillaged; for the Lord has said this.

4 L a tierra ha quedado destruida. Cayó enferma, y con ella también el mundo. ¡El cielo y la tierra se enfermaron!

The land and the earth mourn and wither, the world languishes and withers, the high ones of the people languish.

5 L a tierra quedó contaminada por causa de sus habitantes, pues transgredieron las leyes, falsearon el derecho, y quebrantaron el pacto eterno.

The land and the earth also are defiled by their inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, disregarded the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant.

6 P or eso la maldición consume la tierra, y sus habitantes son asolados; por eso han sido consumidos los habitantes de la tierra y son muy pocos los que aún quedan.

Therefore a curse devours the land and the earth, and they who dwell in it suffer the punishment of their guilt. Therefore the inhabitants of the land and the earth are scorched and parched, and few people are left.

7 E l vino se ha perdido, pues la vid se marchita; ¡gimen todos los de alegre corazón!

The new wine mourns, the vine languishes; all the merrymakers sigh.

8 H a cesado la alegría de los panderos y del arpa; se ha acabado el alboroto de los que se divierten.

The mirth of the timbrels is stilled, the noise of those who rejoice ends, the joy of the lyre is stopped.

9 Y a no mezclan el vino con los cantos; la sidra les sabe amarga a quienes la toman.

No more will they drink wine with a song; strong drink will be bitter to those who drink it.

10 D esolada y vacía está la ciudad; todas las casas se han cerrado, y no entra nadie.

The wasted city of emptiness and confusion is broken down; every house is shut up so that no one may enter.

11 H ay clamor en las calles porque falta el vino; se apagó el gozo, desapareció del país la alegría.

There is crying in the streets for wine; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is banished and gone into captivity.

12 L a ciudad ha quedado en ruinas; la puerta fue derribada.

In the city is left desolation, and its gate is battered and destroyed.

13 E n medio de la tierra y de los pueblos sucederá lo que sucede con los olivos sacudidos y con lo que queda después de la vendimia.

For so shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking and beating of an olive tree, or as the gleaning when the vintage is done.

14 P ero habrá quienes alcen la voz y canten con gozo por la grandeza del Señor. Desde el mar darán voces:

these lift up their voices, they shout; for the majesty of the Lord they cry aloud from the Sea.

15 « ¡Glorifiquen en los valles y en las costas del mar el nombre del Señor, Dios de Israel!»

Wherefore glorify the Lord in the east; the name of the Lord, the God of Israel in the isles and coasts of the Sea.

16 D esde lo último de la tierra oímos que se canta: «¡Gloria al Justo!» Y yo digo: «¡Ay de mí! ¡Qué desdicha, qué desdicha! ¡Los traidores traicionan! ¡Y sólo saben traicionar!»

From the uttermost parts of the earth have we heard songs: Glory to the Righteous One! But I say, Emaciated I pine away, I pine away. Woe is me! The treacherous dealers deal treacherously! Yes, the treacherous dealers deal very treacherously.

17 C ontra ti, habitante del país, hay terror, foso y trampa.

Terror and pit and snare are upon you, O inhabitant of the earth!

18 C uando quieras huir de la voz del terror, caerás en el foso; y cuando quieras salir del foso, caerás en la trampa. Porque se abrirán las ventanas de los cielos, y temblarán los fundamentos de la tierra.

And he who flees at the noise of the terror will fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the pit will be caught in the snare. For the windows of the heavens are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble and shake.

19 S í, la tierra será totalmente destruida, del todo desmenuzada, en gran manera sacudida.

The earth is utterly broken, the earth is rent asunder, the earth is shaken violently.

20 S e tambaleará como un ebrio, será removida como una choza; bajo el peso de su pecado caerá, y nunca más volverá a levantarse.

The earth shall stagger like a drunken man and shall sway to and fro like a hammock; its transgression shall lie heavily upon it, and it shall fall and not rise again.

21 C uando llegue ese día, el Señor castigará en lo alto al ejército de los cielos, y en este mundo a los reyes de la tierra.

And in that day the Lord will visit and punish the host of the high ones on high and the kings of the earth on the earth.

22 Y serán amontonados en una mazmorra, como se amontona a los encarcelados. En esa prisión quedarán encerrados, y después de un largo tiempo serán llamados a cuentas.

And they will be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in a pit or dungeon; they will be shut up in prison, and after many days they will be visited, inspected, and punished or pardoned.

23 C uando el Señor de los ejércitos reine en el monte Sión y en Jerusalén, y muestre su gloria ante sus ancianos, la blanca luna se pondrá roja de vergüenza, y el ardiente sol palidecerá.

Then the moon will be confounded and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of hosts, Who will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders will show forth His glory.
