1 E n el mes octavo del segundo año de Darío la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Zacarías hijo de Berequías, hijo de Iddo, y dijo:

In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the Lord to Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

2 « El Señor está muy enojado contra los padres de ustedes.

The Lord was very angry with your fathers.

3 A sí que dile al pueblo: “Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: Vuélvanse a mí, y yo me volveré a ustedes.” —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord of hosts: Return to Me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you; it is the utterance of the Lord of hosts.

4 » No sean como sus padres, a quienes los profetas de antaño clamaron y dijeron: “Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: Apártense ya de sus malos caminos y de sus malas obras”, pero ellos no me hicieron caso ni me escucharon. —Palabra del Señor.

Be not as your fathers to whom the former prophets cried, Thus says the Lord of hosts: Return now from your evil ways and your evil doings; but they would not hear or listen to Me, says the Lord.

5 » ¿Y dónde están ahora sus padres? ¿Y acaso los profetas viven todavía?

Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

6 ¿ Y acaso las palabras y ordenanzas que di a mis siervos los profetas no alcanzaron a los padres de ustedes? Por eso ellos se volvieron a mí, y dijeron: “El Señor de los ejércitos nos ha tratado en conformidad con lo que merecen nuestros caminos y nuestras acciones.”» La visión de los caballos

But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not overtake and take hold of your fathers? So they repented and said, As the Lord of hosts planned and purposed to do to us, according to our ways and according to our doings, so has He dealt with us.

7 E l día veinticuatro del mes undécimo, que es el mes de Sebat, del año segundo de Darío, la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Zacarías hijo de Berequías, hijo de Iddo, y dijo:

Upon the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month of Shebat, in the second year of the reign of Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet. Zechariah said,

8 « Una noche vi a un hombre cabalgando un caballo alazán. Estaba entre los mirtos que había en la hondonada, y detrás de él había caballos alazanes, overos y blancos.

I saw in the night and behold, a Man riding upon a red horse, and He stood among the myrtle trees that were in a low valley or bottom, and behind Him there were horses, red, bay or flame-colored, and white.

9 Y o pregunté: “Mi señor, ¿quiénes son éstos?” Y el ángel que hablaba conmigo me dijo: “Voy a mostrarte quiénes son.”

Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel who talked with me said, I will show you what these are.

10 » El hombre que estaba entre los mirtos respondió y dijo: “Éstos son los que el Señor ha enviado a recorrer la tierra.”

And the Man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the Lord has sent to walk to and fro through the earth and patrol it.

11 E llos, por su parte, hablaron con el ángel del Señor que estaba entre los mirtos y dijeron: “Hemos andado por toda la tierra, y ésta se halla reposada y tranquila.”

And the men on the horses answered the Angel of the Lord Who stood among the myrtle trees and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth and behold, all the earth sits at rest.

12 » Entonces el ángel del Señor respondió: “Señor de los ejércitos, ¿hasta cuándo vas a negarles tu compasión a Jerusalén y a las ciudades de Judá? ¡Ya has estado airado con ellas durante setenta años!”

Then the Angel of the Lord said, O Lord of hosts, how long will You not have mercy and lovingkindness for Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which You have had indignation these seventy years ?

13 » El Señor respondió al ángel que hablaba conmigo, con palabras amables y reconfortantes.

And the Lord answered the angel who talked with me with gracious and comforting words.

14 Y el ángel que hablaba conmigo me dijo: “Levanta la voz y di: Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: Muy grande es mi amor por Jerusalén y por Sión.

So the angel who talked with me said to me, Cry out, Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

15 E stoy muy airado contra las naciones que viven tranquilas porque, cuando mi enojo no era tanto, ellos lo agravaron más.”

And I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was but a little displeased, they helped forward the affliction and disaster.

16 » Por lo tanto, así ha dicho el Señor: “Volveré a compadecerme de Jerusalén. La plomada volverá a tenderse sobre Jerusalén, y en ella será edificada mi casa.” —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

Therefore thus says the Lord: I have returned to Jerusalem with compassion (lovingkindness and mercy). My house shall be built in it, says the Lord of hosts, and a measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.

17 » Levanta la voz una vez más, y di: “Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: Mis ciudades volverán a rebosar con abundancia de bienes, y yo, el Señor, volveré a consolar a Sión y a escoger a Jerusalén.”» Visión de los carpinteros y los cuernos

Cry yet again, saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts: My cities shall yet again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord shall yet comfort Zion and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

18 D espués levanté la vista y vi allí cuatro cuernos.

Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.

19 L e pregunté al ángel que hablaba conmigo: «¿Y éstos qué son?» Y el ángel me respondió: «Éstos son los cuernos que dispersaron a Judá, Israel y Jerusalén.»

And I said to the angel who talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns or powers which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

20 L uego el Señor me mostró cuatro carpinteros,

Then the Lord showed me four smiths or workmen.

21 y yo pregunté: «¿Y éstos qué vienen a hacer?» Y el ángel me respondió: «Aquellos cuernos son los que dispersaron a Judá, al grado de que ninguno de ellos volvió a levantar la cabeza; pero éstos han venido para hacerlos temblar y derribar los cuernos de las naciones que se levantaron contra la tierra de Judá y dispersaron a sus habitantes.»

Then said I, What are these coming to do? And he said, These are the horns or powers that scattered Judah so that no man lifted up his head. But these smiths or workmen have come to terrorize them and cause them to be panic-stricken, to cast out the horns or powers of the nations who lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.
