When Israel came forth out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2 J udá se convirtió en el santuario del Señor y el pueblo de Israel llegó a ser su dominio.

Judah became sanctuary (the Holy Place of His habitation), and Israel His dominion.

3 C uando el mar vio al Señor, se retiró; también el río Jordán dejó de fluir.

The Sea looked and fled; the Jordan was turned back.

4 L os montes saltaban como carneros, ¡las colinas brincaban como corderitos!

The mountains skipped like rams, the little hills like lambs.

5 D ime, mar, ¿por qué te retiraste? Y tú, Jordán, ¿por qué dejaste de fluir?

What ails you, O Sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back?

6 Y ustedes, montes y colinas, ¿por qué saltaban como carneros? ¿Por qué brincaban como corderitos?

You mountains, that you skip like rams, and you little hills, like lambs?

7 E n presencia del Señor, la tierra tiembla; ¡tiembla en presencia del Dios de Jacob!

Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 E l Señor convirtió la peña en un manantial; ¡convirtió la roca en fuentes cristalinas!

Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
