1 D ios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado? ¿Por qué estás tan lejos, y no vienes a salvarme? ¿Por qué no atiendes mi clamor?

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?

2 D ios mío, te llamo de día, y no me respondes; te llamo de noche, y no hallo reposo.

O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You answer not; and by night I am not silent or find no rest.

3 T ú eres santo, tú eres rey; tú eres alabado por Israel.

But You are holy, O You Who dwell in the praises of Israel.

4 N uestros padres confiaron en ti; en ti confiaron, y tú los libraste.

Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted (leaned on, relied on You, and were confident) and You delivered them.

5 A ti clamaron, y fueron librados; en ti confiaron, y no quedaron en vergüenza.

They cried to You and were delivered; they trusted in, leaned on, and confidently relied on You, and were not ashamed or confounded or disappointed.

6 P ero yo soy más gusano que hombre; ¡un ser despreciable del que todos se burlan!

But I am a worm, and no man; I am the scorn of men, and despised by the people.

7 L os que me ven, se burlan de mí; me hacen muecas, sacuden la cabeza, y dicen:

All who see me laugh at me and mock me; they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

8 « Éste puso su confianza en el Señor, ¡pues que el Señor lo salve! ¡Que venga el Señor a librarlo, ya que en él se complacía!»

He trusted and rolled himself on the Lord, that He would deliver him. Let Him deliver him, seeing that He delights in him!

9 P ero eres tú quien me dio la vida, eres tú quien me infundió confianza desde que era un niño de pecho.

Yet You are He Who took me out of the womb; You made me hope and trust when I was on my mother’s breasts.

10 A ntes de nacer fui puesto a tu cuidado; aun estaba yo en el vientre de mi madre, y tú eras ya mi Dios.

I was cast upon You from my very birth; from my mother’s womb You have been my God.

11 N o te apartes de mí, que me cerca la angustia y nadie viene en mi ayuda.

Be not far from me, for trouble is near and there is none to help.

12 M ucha gente poderosa me rodea; son fuertes como toros de Basán.

Many bulls have surrounded me; strong bulls of Bashan have hedged me in.

13 C omo leones feroces y rugientes, abren sus fauces, dispuestos a atacarme.

Against me they opened their mouths wide, like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 M e voy diluyendo, como el agua; tengo todos los huesos dislocados. El corazón, dentro del pecho, se me derrite como la cera.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is softened and melted down within me.

15 T engo seca, muy seca, la garganta; la lengua se me pega al paladar; ¡me has lanzado al polvo de la muerte!

My strength is dried up like a fragment of clay pottery; my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and You have brought me into the dust of death.

16 M e ha cercado una banda de malvados; ¡me tienen rodeado, como perros! ¡Han taladrado mis manos y mis pies!

For dogs they have encompassed me; a company of evildoers has encircled me, they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 P uedo contarme todos los huesos, mientras ellos se regodean al verme.

I can count all my bones; gaze at me.

18 E chan a la suerte mis vestidos y se los reparten por sorteo.

They part my clothing among them and cast lots for my raiment (a long, shirtlike garment, a seamless undertunic). )

19 P ero tú, Señor, ¡no te alejes! Tú eres mi fuerza, ¡ven pronto en mi ayuda!

But be not far from me, O Lord; O my Help, hasten to aid me!

20 ¡ Rescata de la espada y de esos perros la única vida que tengo!

Deliver my life from the sword, my dear life from the power of the dog.

21 ¡ Sálvame de las fauces de esos leones! ¡Líbrame de los cuernos de esos búfalos!

Save me from the lion’s mouth; for You have answered me from the horns of the wild oxen.

22 A nunciaré tu nombre a mis hermanos; te alabaré en medio de la comunidad.

I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise You.

23 U stedes, los que temen al Señor, ¡alábenlo! Descendientes de Jacob, ¡denle gloria! Hijos todos de Israel, ¡adórenlo!

You who fear (revere and worship) the Lord, praise Him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify Him. Fear (revere and worship) Him, all you offspring of Israel.

24 E l Señor no rechaza al afligido, no desprecia a los que sufren, ni esconde de ellos su rostro; cuando a él claman, les responde.

For He has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard.

25 Y o lo alabaré en medio de la comunidad, y ante los que le temen cumpliré mis promesas.

My praise shall be of You in the great congregation. I will pay to Him my vows before them who fear (revere and worship) Him.

26 L os pobres comerán, y quedarán satisfechos; los que buscan al Señor lo alabarán, y tendrán una larga vida.

The poor and afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; they shall praise the Lord—they who seek for, inquire of and for Him, and require Him. May your hearts be quickened now and forever!

27 T odos los rincones de la tierra invocarán al Señor, y a él se volverán; ¡ante él se inclinarán todas las naciones!

All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall bow down and worship before You,

28 E l reinado es del Señor, y él gobierna a todas las naciones.

For the kingship and the kingdom are the Lord’s, and He is the ruler over the nations.

29 T odos los poderosos de la tierra lo adorarán; todos los mortales le rendirán pleitesía, todos los que no tienen vida propia.

All the mighty ones upon earth shall eat and worship; all they that go down to the dust shall bow before Him, even he who cannot keep himself alive.

30 L as generaciones futuras le servirán, y hablarán del Señor a la generación venidera.

Posterity shall serve Him; they shall tell of the Lord to the next generation.

31 S e dirá a los que aún no han nacido que el Señor es justo en todo lo que hace.

They shall come and shall declare His righteousness to a people yet to be born—that He has done it!
