1 And Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices unto the God of his father Isaac.

2 A nd God spoke unto Israel in visions of the night and said, Jacob, Jacob. And he said, Here am I.

And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.

3 A nd he said, I am the God, the God of thy father; fear not to go down into Egypt; for there I will make of thee a great people.

And He said, I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will there make of you a great nation.

4 I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again; and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will put his hand upon your eyes.

5 And Jacob rose up from Beersheba, and the sons of Israel took Jacob their father and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

So Jacob arose and set out from Beersheba, and Israel’s sons conveyed their father, their little ones, and their wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6 A nd they took their cattle and their goods which they had gotten in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his seed with him,

And they took their cattle and the gains which they had acquired in the land of Canaan and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him:

7 h is sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.

His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters—all his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

8 A nd these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.

And these are the names of the descendants of Israel who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn.

9 A nd the sons of Reuben: Enoch, Phallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

10 A nd the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a Canaanite woman.

11 A nd the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

12 A nd the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

13 A nd the sons of Issachar: Tola, Phuvah, Job, and Shimron.

15 T hese are the sons of Leah, whom she bore unto Jacob in Padanaram, with his daughter Dinah; all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three.

These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-aram, together with his daughter Dinah. All of his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three.

16 A nd the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

The sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

17 A nd the sons of Asher: Jimnah, Ishuah, Isui, Beriah, and Serah, their sister. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

The sons of Asher: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.

18 T hese are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she gave birth unto Jacob: sixteen souls.

These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter. And these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons all told.

19 T he sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.

The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.

20 A nd unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On gave birth unto him.

And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

21 A nd the sons of Benjamin were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

22 T hese are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob, in all, fourteen souls.

These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob—fourteen persons in all.

23 A nd the sons of Dan: Hushim.

The son of Dan: Hushim.

24 A nd the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

25 T hese are the sons of Bilhah, who Laban gave unto Rachel his daughter, and she gave birth to these unto Jacob; in all seven souls.

These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter. And she bore these to Jacob—seven persons in all.

26 A ll the souls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, all the souls were sixty-six;

All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt—who were his own offspring, not counting the wives of Jacob’s sons—were sixty-six persons all told.

27 a nd the sons of Joseph, who were born him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

28 And he sent Judah before him unto Joseph, to direct his face unto Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen.

And he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to direct him to Goshen and meet him there; and they came into the land of Goshen.

29 A nd Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and manifested himself unto him; and he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while.

Then Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen; and he presented himself and gave distinct evidence of himself to him, and fell on the neck and wept on his neck a good while.

30 T hen Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die since I have seen thy face because thou art yet alive.

And Israel said to Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen your face that you are still alive.

31 A nd Joseph said unto his brethren and unto his father’s house, I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say unto him, My brethren and my father’s house, who were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me;

Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, I will go up and tell Pharaoh and say to him, My brothers and my father’s household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me.

32 a nd the men are pastors of sheep, for their trade has been to feed livestock; and they have brought their sheep and their cows and all that they have.

And the men are shepherds, for their occupation has been keeping livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.

33 A nd it shall come to pass when Pharaoh shall call you and shall say, What is your occupation?

When Pharaoh calls you and says, What is your occupation?

34 T hen ye shall say, Thy slaves’ trade has been about livestock from our youth even until now, both we and also our fathers, that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every pastor of sheep is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

You shall say, Your servants’ occupation has been as keepers of livestock from our youth until now, both we and our fathers before us—in order that you may live in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.
