1 And cause Aaron, thy brother, to come unto thee with his sons, from among the sons of Israel, that they may be my priests, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

From among the Israelites take your brother Aaron and his sons with him, that he may minister to Me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons.

2 A nd thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron, thy brother, for honour and for beauty.

And you shall make for Aaron your brother sacred garments for honor and for beauty.

3 A nd thou shalt speak unto all that are wise-hearted, whom I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to sanctify him, that he may be my priest.

Tell all who are expert, whom I have endowed with skill and good judgment, that they shall make Aaron’s garments to sanctify him for My priesthood.

4 A nd these are the garments which they shall make: the pectoral, the ephod, the robe, the broidered coat, the mitre, and the girdle. Therefore let them make the holy garments for Aaron, thy brother, and his sons, that they may be my priests.

They shall make these garments: a breastplate, an ephod, a robe, long and sleeved tunic of checkerwork, a turban, and a sash or band. They shall make sacred garments for Aaron your brother and his sons to minister to Me in the priest’s office.

5 A nd they shall take gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine linen,

They shall receive and use gold, and blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

6 and they shall make the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and fine twined linen, with cunning work.

And they shall make the ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, skillfully woven and worked.

7 I t shall have its two shoulderpieces joined at the two edges thereof, and so it shall be joined together.

It shall have two shoulder straps to join the two edges, that it may be held together.

8 A nd the special girdle of the ephod, which shall be over it, shall be of its same workmanship, of the same materials: of gold, blue, purple, scarlet and fine twined linen.

The skillfully woven girding band which is on the ephod shall be made of the same, of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.

9 A nd thou shalt take two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel:

And you shall take two onyx or beryl stones and engrave on them the names of the twelve sons of Israel;

10 S ix of their names on one stone and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth.

Six of their names on one stone and the six names of the rest on the other stone, arranged in order of their birth.

11 W ith the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a seal, shalt thou engrave those two stones with the names of the sons of Israel; thou shalt make them to be set in settings of gold.

With the work of a stone engraver, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the two stones according to the names of the sons of Israel. You shall have them set in sockets or rosettes of gold.

12 A nd thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the sons of Israel, and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

And you shall put the two stones upon the shoulder straps of the ephod as memorial stones for Israel; and Aaron shall bear their names upon his two shoulders as a memorial before the Lord.

13 A nd thou shalt make the settings of gold

And you shall make sockets or rosettes of gold for settings,

14 a nd two small chains of pure gold; of wreathen work shalt thou make them and fasten the wreathen chains to the settings.

And two chains of pure gold, like cords shall you twist them, and fasten the corded chains to the settings.

15 And in the same manner thou shalt make the pectoral of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it, of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and of fine twined linen.

You shall make a breastplate of judgment, in skilled work; like the workmanship of the ephod shall you make it, of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, and of fine twined linen.

16 I t shall be square and double; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.

The breastplate shall be square and doubled; a span shall be its length and a span shall be its breadth.

17 A nd thou shalt fill it with four rows of stones; The order shall be a ruby, an emerald, and a chrysolite; this shall be the first order.

You shall set in it four rows of stones: a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle shall be the first row;

18 A nd the second order shall be a carbuncle, a sapphire, and a diamond.

The second row an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond;

19 A nd the third order, a topaz, a turquoise, and an amethyst.

The third row a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;

20 A nd the fourth row a tarshish (or beryl) and an onyx and a jasper; they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

And the fourth row a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper; they shall be set in gold filigree.

21 A nd those stones shall be in agreement with the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, in agreement with their names; each one in agreement with his name like the engravings of a seal; they shall be according to the twelve tribes.

And the stones shall be twelve, according to the names of the sons of Israel, like the engravings of a signet, each with its name for the twelve tribes.

22 A nd thou shalt also make upon the pectoral small chains of wreathen work of pure gold.

You shall make for the breastplate chains of pure gold twisted like cords.

23 A nd thou shalt make upon the pectoral two rings of gold and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the pectoral.

You shall make on the breastplate two rings of gold and put on the two edges of the breastplate.

24 A nd thou shalt put the two wreathen chains of gold in the two rings which are on the ends of the pectoral.

And you shall put the two twisted, cordlike chains of gold in the two rings which are on the edges of the breastplate.

25 A nd the other two ends of the two wreathen chains thou shalt fasten in the two settings and put them on the shoulderpieces of the ephod on the front of it.

The other two ends of the two twisted, cordlike chains you shall fasten in the two sockets or rosettes in front, putting them on the shoulder straps of the ephod;

26 T hou shalt also make two rings of gold, and thou shalt put them upon the two ends of the pectoral in the border thereof, which is in the side of the ephod inward.

And make two rings of gold and put them at the two ends of the breastplate on its inside edge next to the ephod.

27 L ikewise two other rings of gold thou shalt make and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the front part thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the special girdle of the ephod.

Two gold rings you shall make and attach them to the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod in front, close by where they join, above the skillfully woven girdle or band of the ephod.

28 A nd they shall bind the pectoral by its rings unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the special girdle of the ephod and that the pectoral not be loosed from the ephod.

And they shall bind the breastplate by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue, that it may be above the skillfully woven girding band of the ephod, and that the breastplate may not become loose from the ephod.

29 A nd Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the pectoral of judgment upon his heart when he goes in unto the sanctuary for a memorial before the LORD continually.

So Aaron shall bear the names of the sons of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart when he goes into the Holy Place, to bring them in continual remembrance before the Lord.

30 A nd thou shalt put in the pectoral of judgment Urim and Thummim, that they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall always bear the judgment of the sons of Israel upon his heart before the LORD.

In the breastplate of judgment you shall put the Urim and the Thummim; they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord, and Aaron shall bear the judgment (rights, judicial decisions) of the Israelites upon his heart before the Lord continually.

31 And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

Make the robe the ephod all of blue.

32 A nd it shall have the collar of his head in the midst thereof, which shall have a binding of woven work round about it, as the collar of a habergeon, that it not be rent.

There shall be a hole in the center of it, with a binding of woven work around the hole, like the opening in a coat of mail or a garment, that it may not fray or tear.

33 A nd beneath upon the hem of it, thou shalt make pomegranates of blue and of purple and of scarlet round about the hem thereof and bells of gold between them round about.

And you shall make pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet around about its skirts, with gold bells between them;

34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate upon the hem of the robe round about.

A gold bell and a pomegranate, a gold bell and a pomegranate, round about on the skirts of the robe.

35 A nd it shall be upon Aaron to minister, and his sound shall be heard when he goes in unto the sanctuary before the LORD and when he comes out, that he not die.

Aaron shall wear the robe when he ministers, and its sound shall be heard when he goes into the Holy of Holies before the Lord and when he comes out, lest he die there.

36 T hou shalt also make an open flower of pure gold and engrave upon it the engravings of a seal, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD.

And you shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engravings of a signet, holy to the lord.

37 A nd thou shalt put it on with a blue lace that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be.

You shall fasten it on the front of the turban with a blue cord.

38 A nd it shall be upon Aaron’s forehead that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the sons of Israel shall sanctify in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead that they may find grace before the LORD.

It shall be upon Aaron’s forehead, that Aaron may take upon himself and bear iniquity the holy things which the Israelites shall give and dedicate; and it shall always be upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord.

39 A nd thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework.

And you shall weave the long and sleeved tunic of checkerwork of fine linen or silk and make a turban of fine linen or silk; and you shall make a girdle, the work of the embroiderer.

40 And for Aaron’s sons thou shalt make coats; thou shalt also make girdles for them, and tiaras shalt thou make for them, for honour and for beauty.

For Aaron’s sons you shall make long and sleeved tunics and belts or sashes and caps, for glory and honor and beauty.

41 A nd with these thou shalt clothe Aaron, thy brother, and his sons with him and shalt anoint them and fill their hands and sanctify them that they may be my priests.

And you shall put them on Aaron your brother and his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain and sanctify them, that they may serve Me as priests.

42 A nd thou shalt make them linen underwear to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the loins even unto the thighs;

You shall make for them linen trunks to cover their naked flesh, reaching from the waist to the thighs.

43 A nd they shall be upon Aaron and upon his sons when they enter into the tabernacle of the testimony or when they come near unto the altar to serve in the sanctuary that they not bear iniquity and die: This shall be a perpetual statute unto him and his seed after him.

And they shall be on Aaron and his sons when they go into the Tent of Meeting or when they come near to the altar to minister in the Holy Place, lest they bring iniquity upon themselves and die; it shall be a statute forever to Aaron and to his descendants after him.
