1 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good because his mercy endures for ever.

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

2 L et Israel now say that his mercy endures for ever.

Let Israel now say that His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

3 L et the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endures for ever.

Let the house of Aaron now say that His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

4 L et those that fear the LORD say now, that his mercy is eternal.

Let those now who reverently and worshipfully fear the Lord say that His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

5 F rom a tight place I called upon JAH; and JAH answered me and set me in a wide place.

Out of my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free and in a large place.

6 T he LORD is for me; I will not fear what man can do unto me.

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

7 T he LORD takes my part with those that help me; therefore I shall see my desire upon those that hate me.

The Lord is on my side and takes my part, He is among those who help me; therefore shall I see my desire established upon those who hate me.

8 I t is better to wait upon the LORD than to wait upon man.

It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.

9 I t is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.

10 A ll the nations compassed me about; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

All nations (the surrounding tribes) compassed me about, but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

11 T hey compassed me about; yea, they laid hold of me; but in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

They compassed me about, yes, they surrounded me on every side; but in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

12 T hey compassed me about like bees; they were quenched as the fire of thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

They swarmed about me like bees, they blaze up and are extinguished like a fire of thorns; in the name of the Lord I will cut them off!

13 T hou hast thrust at me with violence that I might fall, but the LORD helped me.

You thrust sorely at me that I might fall, but the Lord helped me.

14 J AH is my strength and song and is become my saving health.

The Lord is my Strength and Song; and He has become my Salvation.

15 T he voice of singing and saving health is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents and private dwellings of the righteous: the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!

16 T he right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly and achieves strength!

17 I shall not die, but live and declare the works of JAH.

I shall not die but live, and shall declare the works and recount the illustrious acts of the Lord.

18 J AH has chastened me sore, but he has not given me over unto death.

The Lord has chastened me sorely, but He has not given me over to death.

19 Open unto me the gates of righteousness; I will go in through them; I will praise JAH.

Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will enter through them, and I will confess and praise the Lord.

20 T his gate is of the LORD; the righteous shall enter in.

This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.

21 I will praise thee; for thou hast heard me and art become my saving health.

I will confess, praise, and give thanks to You, for You have heard and answered me; and You have become my Salvation and Deliverer.

22 T he stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner.

The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

23 T his is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.

This is from the Lord and is His doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

24 T his is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

This is the day which the Lord has brought about; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 S ave now, I beseech thee, O LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, cause us now to prosper.

Save now, we beseech You, O Lord; send now prosperity, O Lord, we beseech You, and give to us success!

26 B lessed be he that comes in the name of the LORD; from the house of the LORD we bless you.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; we bless you from the house of the Lord.

27 G od is the LORD, who has shined on us; bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar.

The Lord is God, Who has shown and given us light. Decorate the festival with leafy boughs and bind the sacrifices to be offered with thick cords to the horns of the altar.

28 T hou art my God, and I will praise thee; thou art my God, I will exalt thee.

You are my God, and I will confess, praise, and give thanks to You; You are my God, I will extol You.

29 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good, for his mercy endures for ever.
