1 Now these are the sons of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those which had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and that returned unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city,

Now these are the people of the province who went up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, but who came again to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his own city.

59 A nd these were those which went up from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not show their father’s house and their seed, whether they were of Israel.

And these were they who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not show a record of their fathers’ houses or prove their descent, whether they were of Israel:

61 A nd of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, the sons of Koz, the sons of Barzillai; who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai, the Gileadite, and was called after their name.

And of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, of Hakkoz, and of Barzillai, who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and had assumed their name.

62 T hese sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found; therefore, they were, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

These sought their names among those enrolled in the genealogies, but they were not found; so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

63 A nd the Tirshatha said unto them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

64 The whole congregation united as one man was forty-two thousand three hundred and seventy,

65 b esides their slaves and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and there were among them two hundred men and women who were singers.

66 T heir horses were seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules, two hundred and forty-five;

Their horses were 736; their mules, 245;

67 t heir camels, four hundred and thirty-five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Their camels were 435; their donkeys, 6, 720.

68 A nd some of the heads of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which was at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place.

Some of the heads of families, when they came to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, made freewill offerings for the house of God to build it on its site.

69 T hey gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work sixty-one thousand drams of gold and five thousand pounds of silver and one hundred priests’ garments.

They gave as they were able to the treasury for the work 61, 000 darics of gold, 5, 000 minas of silver, and 100 priests’ garments.

70 S o the priests and the Levites and those of the people and the singers and the porters and the Nethinims dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

So the priests, the Levites, some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants lived in their own towns, and all Israel into their towns.
