1 A nd these are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one to his city,

Now these are the people of the province who went up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, but who came again to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his own city.

59 A nd these are they that went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub-Addan, Immer; but they could not shew their fathers' house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

And these were they who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not show a record of their fathers’ houses or prove their descent, whether they were of Israel:

61 A nd of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai; who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.

And of the sons of the priests: the sons of Habaiah, of Hakkoz, and of Barzillai, who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and had assumed their name.

62 T hese sought their genealogical register, but they were not found; therefore were they, as polluted, removed from the priesthood.

These sought their names among those enrolled in the genealogies, but they were not found; so they were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

63 A nd the Tirshatha said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.

64 T he whole congregation together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,

The whole congregation numbered 42, 360,

65 b esides their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred singing men and singing women.

Besides their menservants and maidservants, 7, 337; and among them they had 200 men and women singers.

66 T heir horses were seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules two hundred and forty-five;

Their horses were 736; their mules, 245;

67 t heir camels four hundred and thirty-five; the asses six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Their camels were 435; their donkeys, 6, 720.

68 A nd some of the chief fathers, when they came to the house of Jehovah which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in its place.

Some of the heads of families, when they came to the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, made freewill offerings for the house of God to build it on its site.

69 T hey gave after their ability to the treasure of the work sixty-one thousand darics of gold, and five thousand pounds of silver, and one hundred priests' coats.

They gave as they were able to the treasury for the work 61, 000 darics of gold, 5, 000 minas of silver, and 100 priests’ garments.

70 A nd the priests, and the Levites, and of the people, and the singers, and the doorkeepers, and the Nethinim dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

So the priests, the Levites, some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants lived in their own towns, and all Israel into their towns.
