Say to the Israelites: These are the animals which you may eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
3 W hatever hath cloven hoofs, and feet quite split open, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts—that shall ye eat.
Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, any of these animals you may eat.
4 O nly these shall ye not eat of those that chew the cud, or of those with cloven hoofs: the camel, for it cheweth the cud, but hath not cloven hoofs—it shall be unclean unto you;
Nevertheless these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud or divide the hoof: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.
5 a nd the rock-badger, for it cheweth the cud, but hath not cloven hoofs—it shall be unclean unto you;
And the coney or rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.
6 a nd the hare, for it cheweth the cud, but hath not cloven hoofs—it shall be unclean unto you;
And the hare, because it chews the cud but does not divide the hoof; it is unclean to you.

8 O f their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch: they shall be unclean unto you.
Of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch; they are unclean to you.
9 T hese shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatever hath fins and scales in waters, in seas and in rivers, these shall ye eat;
These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, these you may eat;
10 b ut all that have not fins and scales in seas and in rivers, of all that swarm in the waters, and of every living soul which is in the waters—they shall be an abomination unto you.
But all that have not fins and scales in the seas and in the rivers, of all the creeping things in the waters, and of all the living creatures which are in the waters, they are an abomination and abhorrence to you.
11 T hey shall be even an abomination unto you: of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase ye shall have in abomination.
They shall continue to be an abomination to you; you shall not eat of their flesh, but you shall detest their carcasses.
12 W hatever in the waters hath no fins and scales, that shall be an abomination unto you.
Everything in the waters that has not fins or scales shall be abhorrent and detestable to you.
13 A nd these shall ye have in abomination of the fowls; they shall not be eaten; an abomination shall they be: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the sea-eagle,
These you shall have in abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, for they are detestable: the eagle, the ossifrage, the ospray,

The stork, all kinds of heron, the hoopoe, and the bat.
20 E very winged crawling thing that goeth upon all four shall be an abomination unto you.
All winged insects that go upon all fours are to be an abomination to you;
21 Y et these shall ye eat of every winged crawling thing that goeth upon all four: those which have legs above their feet with which to leap upon the earth.
Yet of all winged insects that go upon all fours you may eat those which have legs above their feet with which to leap on the ground.
22 T hese shall ye eat of them: the arbeh after its kind, and the solam after its kind, and the hargol after its kind, and the hargab after its kind.
Of these you may eat: the whole species of locust, of bald locust, of cricket, and of grasshopper.
23 B ut every winged crawling thing that hath four feet shall be an abomination unto you.
But all other winged insects which have four feet shall be detestable to you.
24 A nd by these ye shall make yourselves unclean; whoever toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even.
And by these you shall become unclean; whoever touches the carcass of them shall be unclean until the evening,
25 A nd whoever carrieth of their carcase shall wash his garments, and be unclean until the even.
And whoever carries any part of their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening.
26 E very beast that hath cloven hoofs, but not feet quite split open, nor cheweth the cud, shall be unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean.
Every beast which parts the hoof but is not cloven-footed or does not chew the cud is unclean to you; everyone who touches them shall be unclean.
27 A nd whatever goeth on its paws, among all manner of beasts that go upon all four, those are unclean unto you: whoever toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even.
And all that go on their paws, among all kinds of four-footed beasts, are unclean to you; whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening,
28 A nd he that carrieth their carcase shall wash his garments, and be unclean until the even: they shall be unclean unto you.
And he who carries their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.
29 A nd these shall be unclean unto you among the crawling things which crawl on the earth: the mole, and the field-mouse, and the lizard, after its kind;
These also are unclean to you among the creeping things and creep upon the ground: the weasel, the mouse, any kind of great lizard,
30 a nd the groaning lizard, and the great red lizard, and the climbing lizard, and the chomet, and the chameleon.
The gecko, the land crocodile, the lizard, the sand lizard, and the chameleon.

32 A nd on whatever any of them when they are dead doth fall, it shall be unclean; all vessels of wood, or garment, or skin, or sack, every vessel wherewith work is done—it shall be put into water, and be unclean until the even; then shall it be clean.
And upon whatever they may fall when they are dead, it shall be unclean, whether it is an article of wood or clothing or skin (bottle) or sack, any vessel in which work is done; it must be put in water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; so it shall be cleansed.
33 A nd every earthen vessel into which of them falleth—whatever is in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.
And every earthen vessel into which any of these falls, whatever may be in it shall be unclean, and you shall break the vessel.
34 A ll food that is eaten on which water hath come shall be unclean; and all drink that is drunk shall be unclean, in every vessel.
Of all the food which may be eaten, that on which such water comes shall be unclean, and all drink that may be drunk from every such vessel shall be unclean.

36 N evertheless, a spring or a well, a quantity of water, shall be clean. But he that toucheth their carcase shall be unclean.
Yet a spring or a cistern or reservoir of water shall be clean; but whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean.
37 A nd if any part of their carcase fall upon any sowing-seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean;
If a part of their carcass falls on seed which is to be sown, it shall be clean;

Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all fours, or whatever has more feet among all things that creep on the ground and swarm you shall not eat; for they are detestable.
43 Y e shall not make yourselves abominable through any crawling thing which crawleth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.
You shall not make yourselves loathsome and abominable any swarming thing that swarms, neither shall you make yourselves unclean with them, that you should be defiled by them.
44 F or I am Jehovah your God; and ye shall hallow yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy; and ye shall not make yourselves unclean through any manner of crawling thing which creepeth on the earth.
For I am the Lord your God; so consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am holy; neither defile yourselves with any manner of thing that multiplies in large numbers or swarms.
45 F or I am Jehovah who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.
For I am the Lord Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; therefore you shall be holy, for I am holy.
46 T his is the law of cattle, and of fowl, and of every living soul that moveth in the waters, and of every soul that crawleth on the earth;
