1 ¶ I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.

I will cry to God with my voice, even to God with my voice, and He will give ear and hearken to me.

2 I n the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my sore bled in the night and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted.

In the day of my trouble I seek (inquire of and desperately require) the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without slacking up; I refuse to be comforted.

3 I remembered God and cried out; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

I remember God; I am disquieted and I groan; I muse in prayer, and my spirit faints. Selah!

4 T hou didst hold my eyelids open; I am broken and did not speak.

You hold my eyes from closing; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

5 I have considered the days from the beginning, the years of the ages.

I consider the days of old, the years of bygone times.

6 I call to remembrance my songs of the night; I commune with my own heart, and my spirit made diligent search.

I call to remembrance my song in the night; with my heart I meditate and my spirit searches diligently:

7 W ill the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?

Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more?

8 I s his mercy gone for ever? does his word fail from generation to generation?

Have His mercy and loving-kindness ceased forever? Have His promises ended for all time?

9 H as God forgotten to have mercy? has he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah.

Has God abandoned or forgotten His graciousness? Has He in anger shut up His compassion? Selah!

10 A nd I said, This is my infirmity, but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.

And I say, This is my appointed lot and trial, but I will recall the years of the right hand of the Most High, for this is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High changes.

11 ¶ I remembered the works of JAH; therefore I shall remember thy wonders of old.

I will recall the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember the wonders of old.

12 I meditated also on all thy works and spoke of thy doings.

I will meditate also upon all Your works and consider all Your deeds.

13 T hy way, O God, is in holiness; who is so great a God as our God?

Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary. Who is a great God like our God?

14 T hou art the God that doest wonders; thou hast declared thy strength among the peoples.

You are the God Who does wonders; You have demonstrated Your power among the peoples.

15 T hou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah!

16 T he waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid; the depths also were troubled.

When the waters saw You, O God, they were afraid; the deep shuddered also, for the waters saw You.

17 T he clouds poured out floods of waters; the heavens thundered; thy bolts of lightning also went forth.

The clouds poured down water, the skies sent out a sound; Your arrows went forth.

18 T he voice of thy thunder was all around; the lightnings lightened the world; the earth trembled and shook.

The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind, the lightnings illumined the world; the earth trembled and shook.

19 T hy way was in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps were not known.

Your way was through the sea, and Your paths through the great waters, yet Your footsteps were not traceable, but were obliterated.

20 T hou didst lead thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
