1 ¶ And it came to pass in those days that Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the Gentiles
In the days of the kings Amraphel of Shinar, Arioch of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer of Elam, and Tidal of Goiim,
2 m ade war against Bera king of Sodom and against Birsha king of Gomorrah and against Shinab king of Admah and against Shemeber king of Zeboiim and against the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
They made war on the kings Bera of Sodom, Birsha of Gomorrah, Shinab of Admah, Shemeber of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, that is, Zoar.
3 A ll these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
The latter kings joined together in the Valley of Siddim, which is the Sea of Salt.
4 T welve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.
5 A nd in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings that were with him came and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim and the Zuzims in Ham and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim
And in the fourteenth year, Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him attacked and subdued the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,
6 a nd the Horites in their Mount Seir unto the plain of Paran, which is by the wilderness.
And the Horites in their Mount Seir as far as El-paran, which is on the border of the wilderness.
7 A nd they returned and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the works of the Amalekites and also the Amorites that dwelt in Hazezontamar.
Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and subdued all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who dwelt in Hazazon-tamar.
8 A nd the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar) went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim,
Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela, that is, Zoar, went out and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim,
9 t hat is, against Chedorlaomer the king of Elam and Tidal king of the Gentiles and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against five.
With the kings Chedorlaomer of Elam, Tidal of Goiim, Amraphel of Shinar, and Arioch of Ellasar—four kings against five.
10 A nd the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits, and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there; and those that remained fled to the mountain.
Now the Valley of Siddim was full of slime or bitumen pits, and as the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, they fell (were overthrown) there and the remainder fled to the mountain.
11 A nd they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their provisions and went away.
took all the wealth of Sodom and Gomorrah and all the supply of provisions and departed.
12 A nd they also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods and departed.
And they also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods away with them.
13 ¶ And one came that had escaped and told Abram the Hebrew, who dwelt among the terebinth trees of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner; and these were confederate with Abram.
Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks or terebinths of Mamre the Amorite, a brother of Eshcol and of Aner—these were allies of Abram.
14 A nd when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his tried and experienced servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
When Abram heard that had been captured, he armed (led forth) the 318 trained servants born in his own house and pursued the enemy as far as Dan.
15 A nd he and his slaves poured themselves out against them by night and smote them and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
He divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and attacked and routed them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.
16 A nd he recovered all the goods and also brought again his brother Lot and his goods and the women also and the people.
And he brought back all the goods and also brought back his kinsman Lot and his possessions, the women also and the people.
17 ¶ And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him, at the valley of Shaveh, which is the valley of the king.
After his return from the defeat and slaying of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh, that is, the King’s Valley.
18 T hen Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought forth bread and wine, for he was the priest of the most high God.
Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High,
19 A nd he blessed him and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of the heavens and of the earth;
And he blessed him and said, Blessed (favored with blessings, made blissful, joyful) be Abram by God Most High, Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth,
20 a nd blessed be the most high God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And Abram gave him tithes of all.
And blessed, praised, and glorified be God Most High, Who has given your foes into your hand! And gave him a tenth of all.
21 ¶ Then the king of Sodom said unto Abram, Give me the persons and take the goods to thyself.
And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the persons and keep the goods for yourself.
22 A nd Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of the heavens and of the earth,
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand and sworn to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor and Maker of heaven and earth,
23 t hat I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet; I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou should say, I have made Abram rich,
That I would not take a thread or a shoelace or anything that is yours, lest you should say, I have made Abram rich.
24 e xcept only that which the young men have eaten and the portion of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, who shall take their portion.
except only what my young men have eaten and the share of the men who went with me—Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion.
