1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 S on of man, set thy face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against him,

Son of man, set your face against the mountain Seir and prophesy against it,

3 a nd say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD: Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out my hand against thee, and I will make thee waste and solitary.

And say to it, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you, and I will stretch out My hand against you and I will make you a desolation and an astonishment.

4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

I will lay your cities waste and you shall be desolate, and you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

5 B ecause thou hast had perpetual enmities and hast scattered the sons of Israel to the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the extremely evil time:

Because you have had a perpetual enmity and you gave over the sons of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when they were suffering their final punishment,

6 t herefore, as I live, said the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: and if thou dost not hate blood, blood shall pursue thee.

Therefore, as I live, says the Lord God, I will expose you to slaughter and slaughter shall pursue you; since you could not bear to live without bloodshed, therefore bloodshed shall pursue you.

7 A nd I will make Mount Seir waste and solitary and cut off from him, he that passes out and him that returns.

Thus will I make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation, and I will cut off from it him who passes through it and him who returns.

8 A nd I will fill his mountains with his dead; and in thy hills and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, they shall fall that are slain with the sword.

And I will fill mountains with his slain men; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines shall those fall who are slain with the sword.

9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall never be restored; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

I will make you a perpetual desolation and your cities shall not be inhabited. Then you will know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.

10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them, whereas the LORD was there.

Because you said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine and we will take possession of them—although the Lord was there,

11 T herefore, as I live, said the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy enmity against them; and I shall be known in them when I judge thee.

Therefore, as I live, says the Lord God, I will deal with you according to the anger and envy you showed because of your enmity for them, and I will make Myself known among them when I judge and punish you.

12 A nd thou shalt know that I, the LORD, have heard all thy injuries which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.

And you shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord, and that I have heard all your revilings and scornful speeches that you have uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid waste and desolate; they are given to us to devour.

13 T hus with your mouth ye have boasted against me and have multiplied your words against me; I have heard them.

Thus you have boasted and magnified yourselves against Me with your mouth, multiplying your words against Me; I have heard it.

14 T hus hath the Lord GOD said: Thus shall the whole earth rejoice when I shall make thee desolate.

Thus says the Lord God: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you a waste and desolation.

15 A s thou didst rejoice upon the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee; thou shalt be desolate, O Mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so will I deal with you; you shall be a waste and desolation, O Mount Seir and all Edom, all of it. Then they shall know, understand, and realize that I am the Lord.
